Malena had not long stepped off the plane before she felt riddled with a sense of utter confusion. Originally hailing from Sweden, she had been living in the UK for a little while before moving onto America. Only, America was far different than the UK and especially her hometown in Sweden. She was in New York now, the city of dreams only it felt more like a nightmare to Malena right now. She had her suitcase with her before she departed from the airport. All she had with her were the clothes in her suitcase, her passport and a small piece of paper that had the name and address of her hotel she'd be staying in for the next month or two before finding a place of her own. She wanted to make it big in New York and luckily during her time in the UK, she had learnt to speak a fair amount of English. Only, as soon as she stepped out into the big wide world of New York, she soon became to realize just how busy and bustling the city really was. It was just like the movies, spectacular in all manners of the word but there was one thing she had to do before doing anything else and that was to hail for a cab.
Moving onto the sidewalk, Malena glanced around to see if she could find any cabs driving by that were vacant, only they all seemed to be taken. She then noticed a few cabs parked, no doubt waiting for fairs and so Malena moved down the sidewalk with her suitcase in hand, rolling behind her on the two wheels before she finally approached one of the cabs. "Hi, uh, are you free to take me to my hotel?" She asked, unsure as to whether he would be or not but it soon became apparent that he was far too busy to take any clients on at the moment as he said engrossed in reading the morning paper.
"Nevermind.." Sighing softly, Malena moved on and headed for the second cab but by the time she approached the drivers door, a couple entered into the cab, not even asking the driver if he was free. She wondered if she was doing things wrong. Was it a custom to just enter into a cab without asking the driver if it was okay to do so first? Shrugging to herself, she moved on and tried the last and only cab down the long walk down the sidewalk. This time she'd try things differently as she moved not to the drivers door but to the back passengers door instead and simply entered into the cab without asking first. Hoping she had done things correctly this time as she eased her suitcase in with her, shutting the door firmly shut afterwards. "I need to go to this address, please? It's the hotel I'm staying at." She passed the small, folded piece of paper over to the driver, hoping he'd oblige to her request.
