There's a film coming out this year. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's a December release in the US, which means it's pure Oscar-bait. But when I see productions like this, it's always bad when I see names I recognize attached to it. Hugh Jackson as Valjean? Russell Crowe as Javert? Can these people sing? Reminds me of Gerard Butler being cast as the Phantom of the Opera, having never sung before.

I watched the trailer. Anne Hathaway does...an okay job with "I dreamed a dream." Not the best performanceI ever heard.

I know what you mean, the POTO movie had its good points and bad. At least Hugh Jackman comes from musical theatre originally a,d Russell Crowe does have some kind of music in his background too (a band I think...?) ...am really rather excited about it. But then as someone who has the novel in both English and French and every possible recording in her collection...that's not really a big surprise now is it?

There's a film coming out this year. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's a December release in the US, which means it's pure Oscar-bait. But when I see productions like this, it's always bad when I see names I recognize attached to it. Hugh Jackson as Valjean? Russell Crowe as Javert? Can these people sing? Reminds me of Gerard Butler being cast as the Phantom of the Opera, having never sung before.

I watched the trailer. Anne Hathaway does...an okay job with "I dreamed a dream." Not the best performanceI ever heard.

Jackman can at least. He won a tony.

I dunno about Crowe. I don't like him for Javert at all. But I hate Crowe. I'd have much preferred Joe Andersen. He's much smaller than Jackman, and I at least know Andersen can sing.

The accent is wrong but he could fake it a little.

And Javert is my favourite character too. His suicide (Stars) is the climax of the show for me.
