The delectable KJ is right. This is a community messageboard, after all - Pictures may start a thread, but it's conversation that keeps it running. Just like any relationship (or friendship). You may be attracted by the packaging at first, but you need substance to make it last.
Look at some of the longest running threads (and the ones with 200+ pages; they're not always the same ones) .. Ran, Bearlee's Dawn thread, Ember Faye, KJ herself, Turboguy and Lovergirl, Thrillcynic's LadyBlu thread, etc etc .. What do they have in common?
They're conversations (and flirting, mucho flirting) between friends, punctuated by mad spurts of picture posting. The pictures are eye candy - For sure, very nice eye candy - And I have to admit, Lit has spoiled me for regular porn. After looking at all the beautiful people that post their pictures here, I find that looking at just straight pictures with no words less, ahem, inspiring than I used to. I enjoy reading the posts that go along with each picture. I enjoy reading the follow ups and replies. They make the person in the pictures more of a real person, and that is always erotic.
Oh, and last thing... I'm probably going to get lynched by the ladies of lit for this... But there *are* differences between the sexes, no matter what anyone says, and one of those differences manifests itself in how we're aroused and what keeps our interest. Men, traditionally, can be kept interested and brought back for repeated visits to a thread purely by the chance to see more naked women, hehe... Women tend (as a nasty generalization) to be more complex creatures. They like to look at pictures as much as us men, but they also like to talk, interact and be aroused by the person behind the pictures.
It's my opinion that that is why so many penis-only threads stutter and die. Women like to look at dicks, I guess - As long as they're nice looking, I suppose - But for most women, that isn't enough.
I like to harbour the happy delusion that my thread was pretty popular, for the very short time that I kept it updated - And I didn't post any pictures of my cock at all!!

The thing about penis pics is that we women are not always as obsessed about penises as men seem to be. Sure, we like them and all, but a guy's chest or butt is sexy too.
Personally, I prefer the penis to be "doing something" like the guy's hand holding it or maybe a girl holding it, or just something rather than some guy who took all of 3 seconds to unzip, put the camera down and *snap*. I see lots of penis pics that the guy just pulled it out of his pants and aimed the cam at his lap.
If you're proud of your penis, show it off! Take a little time and effort to capture it on film. Creativity is always nice.
