Mairo was glad that Evangeline thought to surround the fire with rocks. That was one part that he'd actually forgotten about. When she set her sword and shield down and absorbed them into herself though, he couldn't help but be entranced by the process. He watched as they shimmered, shivered, and slowly slid into her pale and flawlessly smooth skin, becoming tattoos on her wrist and forearm. While his sword couldn't really do anything like that, and he had no other way to gain her trust, the best he could do was slide his sword and his sheathe off of his back and lay it beside the fire between them, and even go one step further by putting the handle side towards her.
Hearing Evangeline speaking of them keeping warm sent Mairo's mind spiraling. He of course remembered how he and the rest of The Fallen had kept warm in the pit those first few nights...Her next words helped distract him from his thoughts, but only a little, seeing as the problem would still need to be addressed.
"When we were first cast down but unable to make fire, we survived the cold with...um...body heat, sharing body heat. I can loan you my shirt, and we can build up the fire, but with no gear and wet clothes we might need to huddle together when it gets bad." When Mairo started talking he was looking at the ground. His gaze slowly lifted as he continued speaking, and when he finally finished talking, his violet gaze found Evangeline's lovely blue one once more.
"I'm not going to lie to you. This is the sort of thing a demon or fallen angel would do. As for a trap though..." Mairo started once more, casting his gaze down and to the side as he focused on the question and it's possibilities. No, that doesn't seem likely. They would have no way of knowing exactly where we...I...no way of knowing exactly where I would be, and even factoring in the size of the trap, the odds are...let's just say it's unlikely. Plus there are no ingredients around, no signs or a sacrifice, and no evidence of the trap itself. The whole thing just doesn't make sense." As he finished speaking, he drew his knees up close to him so he could brace his elbows on them and drop his head into his hands.
