Hi Spirit,

Just trying to stay current. Thanks for the welcome. Since you were nice enough to answer my kissing question. The least I can do is answer any question you have about Aussie land.

There is an Aussie thread, so you can pop in and see what the gossip is.

They mainly come from Sydney. I'm from Melbourne, the cultural and sports mad city of the country. We have the best cafes and restaurants.

Some lingo for you just in case you hear some strange words. For the most part we do speak normally, but there are a few words you may see that you don't recognize:

arvo - afternoon

G'Day - short for Good Day, meaning hello (you probably new that)

strewth - OMG

Chemist - drugstore

dunny - toilet

snag - sausage

"a cold one" - beer (can or stubbie - small bottle)

mate - buddy

bloke - guy

sheila - girl

bloody nora - oh no!

crikey - damn!

And here is a tip, if you want a soda ask for a soft drink, otherwise you will get just that, soda water.

I've travelled a number of times to the USA and Canada so I know how the difference in the words can throw people.

I guess that will do for now. There is lots more.

For those wondering where the "land downunder" quote comes from. It's from the chorus to a song by the band Men at Work:

" We come from a land downunder"
"Where women glow and men thunder"
"Can you hear, can you hear the thunder?"
"You better run, you better take cover"


There was also some mention about heritage. I'm Irish, English and Indian (i.e. India). Speak with an Aussie accent and I look like I come from the Pacific Islands.

I went to Hawaii one year and was mistaken for a local.

I have a soft spot for mature women with lovely curves. MMMMM

Guess that's why I keep coming back.

I have taken something -- took a couple of those new fast acting liquid gel caps of Advil - lol

well hun - it's someone who has feelings for me - but i don't have the same feelings back for them and there's a big age diff too - told him that I never wanted to hurt him or lead him on - wanted to keep it at just friends --- he just doesn't seem to get that :rolleyes:

That's why.....It sucks I know. I've been on both ends. I've been liked by and have liked and they were younger than I. Sometimes you just can't let someone down easy. You just have to be true to yourself and whatever feelings he has he''ll get over them. If it gets to the point where he makes you feel uncomfortable...just might have to be mean. I did that once. I didn't feel good about telling her off but I had to. The girl just drove me crazy. I hope it doesn't to that......your friends are here if you need them. I feel that I speak for everyone.:)
