SpongeBob SquarePants isn't gay! (or is he?)

I find this whole thing disappointing. The Jerry Falwells and the Bob Jones of this world are intent on corrupting a child-like mind with ideas of hell, profanity, and a corrupt sense of homosexuality.

I believe it is important to incorporate all types of people, places, and things into a child's show to appropriately portray the real world. Mind you, I don't necessarily think an openly gay character is the way to go; however, it is my belief that a 4 year-old isn't fully able to grasp the concept of homosexuality.

Who is Bob Jones?

Heh. Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. He and Jerry's school, Liberty (ironic?) University in VA are both well-known in Christian circles. While BJ doesn't necessarily have the same big mouth as Falwell, he does turn out quite a number of Fundies in his cultish college.

Oh, I see.

You're right.

Childrens' vs adulterated and Animé.

Yeah, I've seen some really violent Japanese adult animé. I wonder if there's any gay Japanese (or Asian) animé? I'm sure there is.

yaoi is japanese male x male porn

yuri is girl x girl porn

hentai is perverted general porn

there are others...

Again as others have said some animated characters are not for kids...some are.
Its in knowing the difference that is important.

angels in america

I actually had to read the first half...

I wasn't able to finish it (the text didn't have the second part)

Tony Kushner is a gifted dramatist.

Gay Fantasia at its best.

Yes. It's like where do you start with this movie? There are so many levels and layers that it's so surreal and mesmerizing. I wish I could have seen the original play out of curiousity to compare it with the film. I think that in time the movie will start to creep up as one of the best films ever made. Brilliant casting. Tony Kushner is a genius, so is Mike Nichols...

Bob Jones doesn't speak nearly as often as Jerry Falwell, but he usually makes up for his relatively quiet by being even worse when he does speak.

Of course, what should one expect from a man who runs a non-accredited school that had an anti-interracial dating policy as recently as 2000, considers Catholicism a dangerous cult, and believes that non-Christians should be barred from political power?

I always laugh everytime I hear the name of Liberty University, it's such a funny name for that school.

That's sad and pathetic. I should send in an application to the school with all the answers they don't want.

"I'm a hispanic Catholic lesbian who loves to date white people, black people, asian people, etc, but never other latinos. Spongebob Squarepants is my favorite show..."

The most enraging part is when politicians treat it as a legitimate institution, which I don't believe it is or should be considered such.

I personally love that it doesn't actually count as an education. As Al Franken would say (and I don't particularly like him, but I find this line amusing), Bob Jones University has the same degree granting power as a Schlotzsky's Deli. At least, I believe that was the fast food place he used; either way, I'm impressed I spelt it correctly on the first try.

Yes, I know. I've actually visited Bob's facilities several times and have heard the Jr.'s lectures. It was an eye-opening experience, especially as one has to pledge to him/the school before a chapel service. His sentiments are accurate with the beliefs of Fundamentalist Christians', so it isn't surprising that he finds students to enroll.

I've also been to Liberty and while I haven't heard Jerry speak, I, too, snicker when I contemplate the name of the school: "Liberty" University.

This is all so very disturbing and frightening. Just the other day as I was driving on the freeway I saw this bumper sticker on a car that read, "My God is Better Than Yours." Wasn't this country built on the premise of having the freedom of religious tolerance and religious diversity? Now these very institutions themselves are inflicting a fundamentalism based on "intolerance" and a rejection of any type of individual "enlightenment." The reason why these bought politicians treat it as a "legitimate" institution is because it's to their political benefit or advantage. So now here we have the perfect marriage made in Hell. Religious fundamentalism with political fundamentalism. Hypocrisy institutionalized! Talk about double standards! I forssee this as only the tip of the iceberg, or the beginning of the end in an administration of "hell, fire, & brimstone!" I'm glad and proud to say I didn't vote for Mr. Bush!

(Yes, your spelling is impeccable! :) )

I beleive the bumper sticker may have been sarcastic, though it's hard to tell with such things.

Reading drama is fun...or getting some friends to read-aloud. I am a book nut so this is fun to me.
Extra points if you have just you read with multi voices or personalities...
It helps to read the details that movies can gloss over.

I have never been subjected to the chilling experience that either of those must be, but I can imagine the horror of it.

That's exactly what I thought of. He has the entire Mormon look going on.

Are there Gay Mormons? I mean...I know there are folks who are Gay and probably grew up Mormon, but are there Mormon Churches that welcome and embrace Gay people?

A good friend of mine is a gay mormon. He has a really hard time with it, internally and with the church. They don't accept it and constantly are on him to "change."

I grew up Mormon, actually, according to them I still am, haven't gotten around to removing my name from the rolls. For a Christian religion they sure aren't very "christian" about certain things. I had one time when I was in a class where homosexuality was being discussed and I spoke up against it being inherently and morally wrong (I was in high school at the time), omg, these kids who I'd known my whole life looked at me like I suddenly had horns growing out of my head! You would have thought I'd outted myself atleast (which I didn't, just defended homosexuality) Mormons are the ones who started using shock therapy to try to "treat" homosexuality. Is it any wonder why I'm hesitant to come out to my family?

To much to read so iam gonna get right down to the point(IMO).

Ppl wander why I dont follow any religion and I dont want to turn this into a religion war but I just want to say that christians out there are like the rich. "if you rnot like up you dont beling in gods great whatever".

this is 100% my oppinion and Its a wander why the world is so fucked up cause of religion.

I mean shit look ok before i continue iam gonan shut up and go to bed.

With the election over, the Religious Right needed something new to keep peoples attention. And, this is perfect for the simple-minded bigots they cater to. Lord (pun sorta intended) knows they don't have an intelligent argument to present anyways.

Good point. Although they probably haven't realized that creating all this controversy will just make people watch SpongeBob more, to see if he "looks" gay or not. And that will cause his popularity to increase rather than decrease. So, assuming the religious fundies and all the rest of the nuts out there really believe that SpongeBob is gay they're doing a really good job of boosting his popularity :D

Agree. That was sort of my point when I started this thread. I'm sure the creator(s) of SpongeBob will now be laughing to the bank even happier!
