SRP Dieters Unite!

ETA:

And if you really commit and it doesn't work, Leo, I'd go to a doctor and nutritionist. That's unhealthy. At your height 150 is an extremely light weight. You should be carrying at least twenty more pounds, even on the light side.

The thing is, Leo, is that what you're saying doesn't make sense with science.

An MRE is 1250 calories per package. Two would make 2500 calories. So, even if you were only eating two a day, you would still be intaking the exact caloric intake I suggested for someone with an low-to-middle active lifestyle. And, even if your stomach has shrunk to such a drastic size that you cannot eat enough to sustain your weight in a healthy way, you can purchase MRE's from outlets. I could give you a half-dozen websites, though I use Walmart because they are a bit less expensive, to purchase them.

I use MRE's on occasion when I long-trail hike and I don't feel like bringing my cooking gear.

If you commit to changing your body shape and mass you can do it. The science is infallible. But I can't force you. I only posted to encourage and educate.

I don't understand your logic here.

What does it matter what's in an MRE if I'm not eating them? How does it not make scientific sense if I'm not going out and buying MREs to eat on a daily basis? I lost the weight after coming back, and frankly, after several periods of my life eating nothing but MREs day in and out, I'd be more than happy to never see a single one again.

Even if I did decide to eat MREs again, I don't know how it would help me in the long run. I simply cannot fathom adding them to my diet for the rest of my life.

Lately, I've given up, and just settled on eating the way I want again. These things are all past experiences, and its been about a year or so since I've even tried now. So who knows? Maybe I could regain the weight at this point in my life if I buckled down and got serious about my diet again. In either case, it would be healthier. That's why I conceded that I needed an overhaul in the first place.

But I'm just telling you why none of this has worked for me. Unfortunately, no amount of telling me it doesn't make sense is going to change my experiences.

Well, you posted as someone who wanted to gain weight. I gave you the answer on how you could. If you're convinced you're a helpless case then I won't try and argue with you.

But I don't have to believe you.

It's not easy. It's not simple. The methodology and formula are there and the means by which you could change are present. When I started, eight months ago, I did not know where to go. I consulted a nutritionist, who happened to be a friend (in this I got extraordinarily lucky), and started following the program she suggested for me. If you go to a gym you'll find a couple dozen people with suggestions. It sounds like you've done that.

But I know that right away I was discouraged. I know that a month in I hadn't seen a huge change in my body shape or size, only in my energy level. But I was told, encouraged, and made to believe if I stuck with it I'd get there. I did. It took me three months. It was a battle. There were days I lost faith.

But I got through it. And I'm telling you, and anyone out there looking for encouragement, that it can be done. Don't give up. Don't stop trying. If you commit yourself you'll get there.

And Fantasy, I'll be replying to your questions now. Just give me a few.

1. Do you have any basic tips specifically for women, in terms of eating and weight loss? Again, I realize you're not a doctor, and I know you're a man. But anything else you could add to FM's advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, actually. Dieting to lose weight generally consists of operating at a caloric deficiency for most women. That means, in general, you tend to take in less calories then you expend. But again, clean eating is super important here.

And don't operate at a dramatic deficit. Understand that the more radical your deficit the more likely it is that the moment you start eating normally again you're going to put the weight on. So slow and steady does it. Don't shock your system.

2. In lieu of consulting a nutritionist, do you know of a reliable and accurate calculator online that can determine the amount of calories one needs to maintain their current weight? I'm sitting here, playing around with my numbers on a few different sites, and some of the results are dramatically different! Do you know of a particularly good site we can turn to?

I confess, I got lucky, but I know there are calculators out there. I'll send you some via Yahoo.

3. Can you explain more about how our metabolisms work in general? What is meant by 'basal metabolic rate', and what foods can speed up that rate, in an effort to lose pounds?

Well, metabolism is a super general term. It basically refers to any process in which your body converts energy in order to function. The two metabolic processes in particular that apply to eating are:

The Anabolic Process - This is the process in which your body builds and stores energies, this involves taking simple sugars, amino acids, and fatty acids and building them into complex molecules for storage.

The Catabolic Process - The process in which your body takes complex molecules and breaks them down for use. THIS is the one you want to kick start.

So how do you do that? Cut out your carbs almost entirely. If you do eat carbs make them as simple as you can. Stay away from white bread, other breads, rice. If you have to have something have small amounts of whole wheat grains.

4. What's the best way to get an amazing ass? Lunges? Squats (with or without weight)? Planks? All of the above? I want something firm, round, supple, and high, high, high up in the air. I've been working on my posterior for a while and the results haven't been anything amazing.

Oh man, your ass is already quite amazing, hot stuff.

But, to answer your question, squats and leg lifts are all meant to target the thighs and gluts.

5. What's the best way to overcome an iron deficiency? I fainted when I was 20, as a result of vertigo and anemia. My hemoglobin level was incredibly low when I had my blood drawn at the hospital. My blood pressure was also so low that they couldn't release me for another hour, and two of the male nurses came over and tried to make me laugh, so it would go up. My youngest brother is the same way - we're prone towards anemia, even if we're eating protein in regular amounts.

So what would you suggest? Double up on iron pills? Start eating as much lean protein as possible? Would protein shakes be a better, more powerful way of going about the whole thing? Some combination of the three? Or is there anything I can cut out of my diet that could help?

Yeah, iron is the -hardest- thing to find in natural foods. I supplement my iron through vitamins. As for protein shakes? Well, I use them because getting a high concentration of protein in your diet is hard without supplementing when you're counting calories.

I use shakes to boost my protein, say inside my caloric limits, and convenience. Shakes are much faster then cooking.

So, really, its about what you are comfortable doing.

Oh could you send me a site that is legible for calorie calculaters LI? Pretty please and thank you!

Hey, I just had to pitch in my advice here! Ass exercise is something I'm pretty good at. Try ass clenching everyday while you're sitting to firm it up (as often and as much as possible, it's easy and you can do it while you're driving). Do STAIRS! Stairs are amazing for this, I live in a two story house so I am up and down all day everyday!
Swimming - works every muscle.

Alternatively if that doesn't work, just do what I do; ask your lover/boyfriend/Dominant to spank/belt the first layer of skin off your ass...mightn't make it higher but it will definitely be smaller.

*Giggles*

I've started bagging my own lunch due to my lack of finances and the need to get skinnier. Not so bad, I'm enjoying some trail mix that has a whole bunch of nuts and little pieces of carmel and chocolate and cranberries.

Awesome, I need an exercise plan and a friend to keep me on track with said exercise plan.

I just cant bring myself to do it on my own. I should have more willpower.. more internal motivation, but... nothing. Not even going out for a run.

Yeah, same here. It's frustrating. Everyday I tell myself..okay you're going to do the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, I'll pull it out and then set it down and say. "Maaaaaaaaaaaybe later."

Hah! At least you get the thing out. I've a belly dancing video that I like... even motivated by that.. it still stays in with the other disks.

I have 3 more lbs to go then it is all maintenance....

*happy dance all over the thread*

I don't know, really. I have about 10% body fat (a very healthy amount). I don't worry about pounds per week much. I go for inches lost on waist, thighs and chest...

My waist is the same size as my 16 year old's (Grins) and I can shimmy in to most of her jeans...

For the girls who have trouble with regular routines:

1. Pilates Classes - I've heard a lot of great things about results and how much fun it is.

2. Yoga - Especially if you lean towards the thoughtful.

3. Water Aerobics - Nevermind the old people. Shit works.

What about hot, rough, hair-pulling, lip-biting, body-shaking sex? How many calories could that burn? Should we run a study to find out? We could start gathering participants tonight.

ETA: This is a post for people trying to help one another out, not for a bunch of filthy come-ons. Well, not JUST filthy come-ons. Ahem.

It sounds so lame, but I have to say it: Zumba classes have changed some of my friends' lives. The commercials are cheesy. Ignore them. Get yourself to your local gym and try it out. One of my best girlfriends has gone down three sizes from doing Zumba along with lifting some light weights a few times a week. She looks amazing.

And I have to say, I love yoga. I'm really flexible, but it made me do things with my legs I never though possible.
