Starship Troopers: Havoc of Z-75

Name: Daniel "Thunder" Regenram
Speciality: Heavy Machinegunner
Position: Z-75 - Rocky plains

He adjusted his pace to allow Lester to walk next to him

"If the map wasn't too much out of date Joker we only have five miles to hike"

He glanced at Stitch

"It's not the first time she lost Marines in her care and it will not be the last...kinda feel bad for them though, they showed guts and I had hoped we could have gotten them to two eight's base and gotten them some help"

The rest of the trek happened with no further incident, it was when they came to the rock outcroppings that overlooked 28's base that he waved Ghost over

"You got the rifle, check what you can see from here"

He was hot and sweaty and the base called to him, but he needed to stay cautious.

Raising an eyebrow Ghost climbed the ridge to it’s best point, not it’s highest, since that one would be watched. But nearby, so she could get a good look-see.

Crawling the last of the distance she eased to the edge, her rifle at the ready. Scoping in she looked around, slowly and carefully. A hasty spotter got people killed. Take the time, check it right. Look fast, miss the bug that was standing still, look slow and see everything.

And look she did. Keying up her weapon she tracked several items, using the selector switch on the side to mark hostiles and friendlies. It wasn’t a bad situation. Not a nuketown time problem, but it wasn’t a walk in the park.

Several dozen bugs lay dead or twitching around the base while the remainders still attacked. But with the few defenders still shooting, the bugs couldn’t get close.

Although if that was all that was left of the defenders all it would take is another dozen bugs and two-eight was a ghost town. Hopefully they had more inside, out of sight waiting and laying a trap for the bugs.

If not, it was gonna be a long wait.

Crawling backwards a safe distance she rolled over and jumped down returning to the rest of the squads.

Pointing at her own eyes she held up her right hand she indicated five, and drew her thumb across her throat. Five Bugs. Following up she tapped her MI Badge and held up three fingers. Three Mobil Infantry.

Her hand closed into a fist – indicating the base itself- and looking over at the newest squad leader she shrugged.

Speciality: Heavy Machinegunner
Position: Z-75 - Outskirts of MI 28's base

"Well guys and gals it's not looking good, let's go get those MI's out of trouble and get into that base and hope they are not a group of Control Bugs just waiting for us to waltz in"

He looked at what remained of 7 and 15, this was basically a SNAFU mission, they had about 22% left of their combined forces.

"Anybody with long range weaponry take the higher ground, Turaan you are in control of explosives, the rest come with me. We're going to hit those remaining bugs hard and do not be surprised if more pops up, but if they pop up inside the base, we get the hell out of here and scratch the mission"

He waited as his orders got followed and started to climb over the rocks and slid/climbed down the other side. He waited for the rest of the Marines to join him and grinned

"In the words of General Rico...Come on you apes, you wanna live forever?"

Daniel started to jog closer, to get into range of the bugs, raising the machine gun to his shoulder, he sighted down the sights and squeezed the trigger

Returning to her position Ghost selected her targets and waited for the others to obtain firing range, then she unlashed death from the skies.

Each pull of the trigger excised a cancer from the surface of the world. Each pull removed a threat to the human race. Each pull silenced the demons in her skull for another moment. Demons that she would remove from existence for all time.

Name: Pvt. "Lester" Bowville
Speciality: Electronics Tech
Position: Z-75 - MI-28 field base approach.

Lester was worried. That worried him.

He'd been in engagements against the Bugs across the discovered planets. He'd been on Zegama, P, Tango Urilla, Big K. He'd been scared, angry, so high on adrenaline that they could have used him as a prototype planet cracker. But he'd never been worried before.

What in hell was he worried for? He'd had days just as shitty. Plenty of 'em. Cut off from orbital support? Been there, done that. Low on squadmates, supplies, ammo? Yawn. Pulling another unit's collective ass out of the fire? Old news. Walking into charnel houses, Bug-chewed bodies everywhere, moans form dying troopers that Stitch would probably go nuts trying to keep alive until Medevac-

Shit. There it was. Stitch. He was worried about Stitch.

No, he thought. I'm worried for Stitch.

Christ. How the hell did this happen? He wasn't in this for his squadmates. And what the hell was he going to do? He didn't have a psych degree, at least not yet. That was why he'd joined up. Put in his two-years-or-as-long-as-the-Federation-requires-your-service, then get his franchise and those sweet, sweet education credits...

… which were suddenly looking a whole lot less important than a certain fellow trooper from the seventh unit right now.

Aww, hell. We're all probably gonna be Bug-food by the end of the day anyhow. “Hey, Stitch,” he said, walking over to the medic, slapping one of his last two full magazines into his Morita's breech and chambering the first round. “Say you 'n' me go show them two-eight boys 'n' girls how MI're supposed to kill Bugs, huh?”

He leaned in closer. “Kerry,” he said quietly. “I got your back, okay?”

"Oh shit...", Roderigo mumbled under his grinning teeth. Lieutenant Ampsicora was dead, as were Jako and Kaith and... Sean. Holy shit. How did they walked right into that nest, for the Federation's sake?

Now he was alone in enemy territory, and he'd need all he could gather to survive. He had already packed up all the rations his ex-squadmates had brought, but that wouldn't be enough. Shit.

Suddenly, "Bowling Ball" heard the noise of gunfight. Aren't we going to be deployed alone? Who had the Marshal sent this time?

Doesn't matter, after all. Covering his steps the best he could, and unlimbering his heavy plasmagun, he strode towards it. At least they were alive as long as the shots kept roaring. And more people meant less chance of being eaten.

Stitch had stayed quiet, nearly motionless as she watched Thunder and Ghost discuss what was going to happen, she had no interest in what the specific gameplan was, just as long as she got close to some more bugs real soon. Finally the plan was set and Thunder began to charge, quoting the famous General Rico in the process. She gripped tight to her shotgun and was about to follow his lead when she heard Lester call her.

He gave her a few words of encouragement but they didn't have what she assumed was his desired effect.

"Watch your own back, I don't plan on having your blood on my hands too." She responded before falling in behind Thunder.

Picking off any bugs that tried to go airborne are seemed overly aggressive Ghost mostly played overseer at the moment. At least until the new target made itself known, then she was swinging her rifle over and taking a bead, scoped in on the helmet she dipped down slightly, ready to drive a shell through his left eye if he made the wrong move.

Bring up her vox-com she tacked on it twice, then keyed up the targeting system on her rifle, letting all feds know just where the new target was.

((Sorry about that boys and girls, was caught without stable net for the last week or so.))

Name: Tali 'Talon' Turaan
Speciality: Specialist. Intelligence/diversion/demolition

Position: Rescue time.

With the flick of her wrist, she gave Thunder a quick salute that lacked any military protocol. It was more her lazy acknowledgement of his orders. If he wanted the bugs decimated on mass, she would oblige. Who was she to deny her enjoyment in following said orders.

They headed out over the ground that lay before them. There were not enough bugs at present to even cause her to sweat. Between the rest of the squad they were grub food. But what she was worried about was the ground they now ran on. The drop ship had been on similar ground, and had a warren under it. There could also be something similar just under their feet. Waiting.

Bugs were getting smarter, there was no denying it. You were an idiot if you did. Many bases had been used as bait in the past, this smelled like a trap. But then again this entire planet was beginning to smell like a trap.

Keeping her rifle raised, she stuck to whatever rocky outcrops and areas between her and the base. Just in case. As soon as she was within range of the bugs, she pumped a grenade right into the center of them all. Lobbing it so it exploded on impact. It took out three bugs, and injured, or pissed off the remaining ones. At least it got some of the attention of the base for the moment though. And as soon as the bugs charged, she could rip them to shreds just the same.

The explosion basically spelled the end for the few remaining bugs, the heavy gunfire overwhelmed the remaining bugs and soon they were just twitching corpses. Daniel noticed that Ghost had marked another target, but that it was not a bug, but a Marine. He wondered if they were really trying to pull one of their brain bug incursions again.

"Identify yourself!"

He looked up at the Marine on the wall

"Private Daniel Regenram, Mobile Infantry Unit 7. HQ received a distress call and could not hail you, MI 7 and 15 have been sent to come find out what is up"

"Darn you got that? We never thought that it went through! Get in here, these damned bugs have built warrens all over the place, the concrete flooring helps to keep them outside the walls"

"Where is the rest of the Marines?"

"The inner perimeter, we have taken some casualties and we have decided to reinforce our inner protection in case they get over"

That made sense, but he was not one who trusted everything he saw. It was at that moment that the bogey that Ghost had tagged came within range and Daniel moved to cover him with his gun.

"Hold it right there soldier, identify yourself"

"Hold your fire!!!"

Roderigo kept striding towards the marine that just spotted him. Unlimbering his own, heavy weapon, he took a moment to breath before awnsering.

"Corporal Roderigo Delmonte. Herculean Squad."

He lowered himself on his knees, catching his breath once again. Shit. The months in paperwork duty took their toll on Roderigo. After taking his time, he wielded his own exquisitive weapon once again.

"And you are?"

[[Opps Major Edit Needed!

I think because you are back...I don't have to kill your inactive character anymore.

That post was meant to kill Delmonte.

But I'll hold off on that since you are back.]]

He held up his hand

"Hold your fire! I am Private Daniel Regenram, Mobile Infantry Unit 7. HQ received a distress call and could not hail you, MI 7 and 15 have been sent to come find out what is up"

He peered at the strange gun the new comer carried

"Never heard of the Herculean Squad, what is your business here on Z-75? And be sure that your story checks out, we are rather nervous after losing most of what we had"

"I very much doubt you'd heard from the Herculean Squad, Private. If you did, it meant someone screwed up badly."

He looked up and down this Regenram fellow. He seemed to be the current authority in the area.

"Classified Mission. That's all what you need to know."

Position: Opps

Walking forward a few more steps, Tali looked over what parts of the base she could see. But as she got closer, the ground around her forward foot collapsed in. A simple sink hole. Not bug caused. She scrambled to find her footing, but fell forwards. Her gun hitting the ground as her leg disappeared down below the knee. Crumbling under her. She hit the ground, twisting around to stop her knee from snapping backwards.

"OOMF!" she grunted, landing on her side. Managing to stop damage to her knee but it hurt like a bitch.

The moment her gun hit the ground though a grenade launched out of the barrel and flew off into the base. Hitting a portion of the high wall, and some random survivor of the base square in the chest. Suffice to say, they disintegrated with explosive force. Sending chunks of flesh in every direction.

From her place on the ground, she looked from the mess then back to Thunder, then back to her rifle.

"Fuck..." she giggled, dragging her leg out of the hole and righting herself. Gathering the rifle she had almost dropped to inspect for damage.

"Now I'm running low on those."

((Didn't want to waste my post, lol))

"Hey Thunder he seems to think you're just a normal Private..."

Daniel waved the soldier to shut up just as the explosion sent bits of human in every direction. He looked incredulously at Turaan and sighed,

"Let's just get inside those walls so that you can shoot from the inside out"

He turned to face Corporal Delmonte

"Take the lead sir"

With a grin he shrugged the responsibility for the launching of that grenade squarely on the shoulders of a ranking officer

"If I am to take the lead, take that grenade launcher from that woman. I'm not walking before her after THAT."

Delmonte stared towards Tali. That's some dangerous combination - handling a powerful gun while in unsteady ground.

"We may resume this chat inside, yes?"

With calculled steps, "Bowling Ball" strode forth, the weapon steady in his hands.

Position: Grrrr

A soldier approached her, apparently reaching for her gun. And with a quick movement she swept his feet out from underneath him with a smooth kick. On the ground, he was soon shocked to find her crouching down beside him, the barrel of her rifle staring him straight between the eyes.

"When I'm dead..." she muttered, before standing up and walking over his chest and after the others into the base.

Like hell I'll be disarmed, accidents surely will happen if that occurs.

Once inside, she stayed near Thunder. Preferring his command than some new guy who claimed to belong to some secret unit, and have the higher rank. That usually meant he was a dick, or a douche, or a dirt bag. Depending on his level of schooling.

He just grinned at Turaan, but didn't make any moves to take the gun from her, motioning for the rest of the squad to follow them inside, he followed the Colonel, keeping his eyes on his just in case it was some bug trick and also keeping his ears open for any sign of other bugs. The thick doors slid open half way to allow them access inside, the first thing Daniel noticed was an emplacement gun and he grinned widely.

"Ooooh I want one of those for Christmas"

Sergeant Derek Baxter
Emplacement Specialist
Z-75 - Inside base
"Hot asian chick meant:"

"Over my dead body."
A voice came at the reinforcements, mostly towards Regengram. The Sergeant had nothing on but his issued pants. There was a huge gash across his entire torso, it was badly bandaged indicating that they either had no medic or the medic was just too busy.
The other thing unusual about him was his weapon.
It was slung over one shoulder and was not Military issued. In fact it was a Civillian-type shotgun. Bigger gauge than the underside barrels MI used, and came with a magazine that held 20 shells, including one in the chamber.

Baxter threw down the broken radio he had been carrying before tearing out a single component from it and kneeling next to the emplacement weapon. He installed something and the Turret suddenly rotated looking up, then back to level, then swung to the side, stopping just before hitting the Sergeant.
The MI trooper stood up and patted the turret as if it were a puppy before walking down the ramp back towards the new comers. "I'm Sergeant Derek Baxter. Officially I'm the radioman but I maintain and upgrade the Turret emplacements of the base." He said just before his eyes roamed up towards the opposite ramp. "Unit 2! Stand down."

Beyond the column of MI troopers was an unmanned turret. It was trained on the new troopers coming in and visibly sweeped them, visually, a couple times before turning back to watch their surrounding area.
The Tower guns didn't seem to be paying much attention, though they were unmanned and still moving about.

He grinned at the sergeant and then looked at the defensive turrents,

"Well at the rate this shit is going down I think nobody will have it before Christmas."

He looked about,

"Well Sarge, can we help with any defense? Seems like the bugs hit you harder than they had hit us and since the uhm..."

He looked at the spot where the Private stood a few minutes ago,

"Private told us that you're radio is down, we did bring some spare parts along, maybe we can fix up a radio and get a call in for backup, suddenly I have a hankering to get into my Marauder."

Name: Kerrigan 'Stitch' Syphers
Specialty: Field Medic
Postion: Inside MI 28's base

The sound of a grenade being launched then exploding on an unsuspecting soldier drew her gaze, she watched the gore spread around. There weren't enough bandages to put that man back together. She gave Tali a bit of a cold stare, they had enough problems without friendly fire. Still she forgave the fact that it wasn't intentional and she'd done her fair share in saving MI's since they were on this rock so ignored it.

Following the others into the base it didn't take long for her to spot the shirtless sergeant even before he spoke, the wound on his chest could barely be considered treated. Slinging her shot gun over her shoulder she pulled her bag out front and began rummaging through it.

"Where's your medic? Why haven't you been treated?" She asked as she approached him.

Sergeant Derek Baxter
Emplacement Specialist
Z-75 - Inside base
"If Medics look like this then I hope I get cut more often!"

"Radio?" He pointed to the discarded and scavenged radio on the floor. "That's what's left of ours." The Sergeant then nodded towards the four towers, and the four corner emplacements. "You can have Troopers manning those weapons. If we pull out for whatever reason, there's a kick-stand like lever near their feet. Flip that down and the automated system takes over shooting anything with more than two legs." Derek pulled out a cigarette from his pants pocket and lit it, taking a long pull, exhaling the smoke up towards the air. "They're also voice commanded. Like so...Unit 2! Sweep our guests and check for hostiles."

The unmanned, automated turret suddenly swiveled around and scanned the entire group of MI Troopers, as if scanning them before turning back around to watch its surroundings.

"Where's your medic? Why haven't you been treated?"

The wounded trooper, shook his head, putting his hands on his hips as he looked over at the spot where the random Trooper had been blown up. "Well...your hot asian chick, blew him up. I had him get to everyone else before he got to me." At that moment he turned around to face who was so worried. When he saw her, a grin broke out on his face and he crossed his arms on his chest, leaning slightly forward as if to get closer to her. "But if you'd like to help me out with it, I got a little something below my waistband that could use a little fixing..."

Name: Tali 'Talon' Turaan
Speciality: Specialist. Intelligence/diversion/demolition

Position: Inside the Base

Once inside the base, Tali nodded the moment the turrents were explained, noticing just how dangerous the voice automated turrets could be in the wrong hands. Luckily, considering the bugs, she felt relatively safe that the person controlling them had enough target practice to quench their thirst for it.

Walking over, she looked up at the gore patch left behind by her accident. Raising her shoulders before dropping them, it was unfortunate it had been the medic. But at least it would give Stich something to do, apart from man a tower.

As she moved past towards one of the towers, she overheard Baxter's comment towards Stitch and stiffiled a laugh. "A little..." she cleared her throat before giving him a wink as she kept walking. "I could fix it with a blade for good...just give me a call if that interests you."

Slinging her rifle across her back, she quickly climbed the ladder and made herself comfortable on the tower. Preparing one of the unmanned guns so that if anything came into view, she could quickly take it out.

Her main concern up here were flyers, so she kept her head down behind the shields for now.
