Alexandra Duncan can't remember a time where her parents were actually happy together. Growing up her parents fought constantly, always dragging Alex into the middle; of course she never picked sides, causing them to only fight further. Secretly she'd wanted to choose her Dad's side; she'd always been a daddy's girl. While mom went out drinking and flirting with other guys, dad was the one who took care of her. That's why it was obvious who she went to live with when they finally split when Alex was 13. Her father had caught her mother with another man, in their home. He immediately packed his things and Alex wouldn't let him out of her sight.
From then on it was just the two of them. Her father was offered a job in Oregon, so they moved leaving everything, even her mother, back in Tennessee. Over the next 3 years Alex did not speak to or ever see her mother because she had no desire to know the woman who broke her father's heart. When Alex turned 17 her mother checked herself into rehab, got a job as a flight attendant, and managed to land a husband. Learning of her mother's turn around, Alex actually made an effort to know her, but only because her father encouraged it.
Alex spent those five years with her father mostly keeping to herself and hanging out in the two bedroom apartment she shared with her dad. Alex was a beautiful child, and had blossomed into a stunning young woman. Her wavy blonde hair fell to her mid back, and shaped her face perfectly, accentuating her olive colored skin. The lightness of her hair mixed with the deep brown of her eyes gave her a unique look, and despite her short 5'8'' stance, she carried herself as if she were 7 feet tall. She had a few friends, but she had problems trusting people, so she spent most of her time with her dad.
Two weeks before her 18th birthday, Alexandra's life took an awful turn. Her father, after suffering a severe heart attack, had passed away after fighting for 3 weeks in the hospital. Since she wasn't quite 18 yet and still in high school. the courts would not allow Alex to keep her home; she was forced to move in with her mother.
It'd been two months now living with her mother and her new husband, Todd. He was an asshole, and Alex didn't refrain from letting him know it. He was absurdly strict and wouldn't allow Alex any freedom like her father did, and her mother let him do so. With Mom being a flight attendant, she was gone all the time for work, leaving Alex in the care of her step-father. Although she turned 18, Alex had promised her mother that she would stay with them until she graduated, so that they could work on fixing their relationship, but how could that happen when she was never there?
Grieving for her father, and the shock of this new life had Alex tailspinning fast, making Todd all the more strict. She caught the worst of it sneaking in two hours past curfew while her mother was on a flight to California.
She was trying to be quiet, but the dammed door creaked so loudly ... she knew she should've made Todd fix those hinges. As she closed the door, she heard the rustling from his room. She tried to run to hers before he got up, but he stopped her dead in her tracks.
