Stripper Music...

Considering that it's been thirty-some years since I've actually been in a club with dancers, it may be a practice that has died out. It used to be fairly common in bars that "officially" didn't have strippers, just "go-go dancers" who suffered frequent 'wardrobe malfunctions.' Also, I suspect a consequence of not having the technology then to jump the jukebox queue for specific songs at specific times.

They still have fashion shows (where girls ask for you to examine their "attire" for a small donation), and the jukebox would be open there. I think they stopped doing open jukebox at dancing places because customers are morons (especially drunk ones) and you'd get a mixture of speed metal and country. I only know one woman who can dance to both, so it's better for the girls to pick their own music (perhaps that points out a deterioration in the quality of the dancers???).

Well this particular club isn't going to be classy but rather seedy and just about everything goes as well as our birthday girl doing a bit of dancin' herself. The story is purely stroke but I still wanted to get a general idea of music/atmosphere/etc. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll admit, now I'm rather curious myself and perhaps need to hunt up a fella or two, or even some ladies willing to brave this new virgin territory with me.

When I stripped (back when I was still in shape) There were two sorts of clubs: the type that allowed you to play your own music (ie cd's you mixed yourself or songs you requested) and the other places that put whatever on and expected you to dance to it. (My mix tapes contained reggae/Manson/NIN/more reggae...)

Most strip clubs allow amateur dancing (and most of the clubs I have been to even have amateur nights). My two fave places are both rather well lit, huge places with shower rooms, v.i.p. sections etc....

The club I had the most experience with had a DJ who had a list of the girls who were supposed to go on. When it was about time for the girls to go up, they would go to the DJ and pick out their own songs. They did two sets, one that they danced to and then one that they stripped to (this was a club you could drink in, so the girls had to wear g-strings). This made for a rather wide variety of music...a lot of them played 80's rock music, some of them played hard rock or alternative, some country, some Rap/Hip-Hop. It was really left up to each girl to choose her song.

The only full nude club I've been to in America does not have a bar. Rather it's BYOB where you bring in your booze and pay a rather hefty fee to be able to drink it. Since I don't drink myself it was never an issue, although the cover charge was twenty dollars at that place. I never went back.

There was a very seedy bar, "The Office", so named that patrons could say 'I'm at the office' if anyone called, that featured girls who used to dance one at a time on the bar. They all shared the same tattered blue bikini.

LOL...I remember being a full nude club once. A guy was eating spaghetti while women danced on the bar/stage. An awful dancer took her turn and drove customers out of the place. The other dancers were really pissed at her.

Most of the "Amateur Nights" around here also feature prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. Often ladies who dance at other clubs will come in as "Amateurs" tell friends and a few customers so they have a cheering section. The seedy places are better....the rules are a tad more lax. Around here they are almost always out of city limits of whatever town they're closest too (I'm guessing it's both to avoid the local cops and so overzealous county boards don't find reasons to rezone the property ).

I've never been to a strip club BUT a few years ago I did write a story with a striptease routine in it. Now, this was for a particular guy and I knew his favourite song and so I googled it with the word strip or stripper or stripping or something and found a page that said it was one of the favourite songs to strip to. I found it easy to work the moves into

How about Relax, by Frankie Goes to Hollywood... classic 80's song that hubby still remembers from the strip club bachelor party he went to. Pour Some Sugar on Me is a good one, and is She's my Cherry Pie. There are lots of 80s metal songs with racy lyrics to choose from.

Bachelorette parties are pretty common there too, and usually end up with some participants from the bridal party, I hear...

Oh, I don't doubt there are strip clubs that get more creative--but I assume we're asking about "if I walked into your average club on an average night, what's the playlist?"

Only been to one once, but I'd say hard driving beats (usually remixes of the original) are the norm. Rob Zombie actually re-released some of his songs, dubbing it 'American made music to strip by'. You can listen to clips of the songs at his/their site:

I definitely think I'll need to go to one sometime, not before this story is written though, the story will come first. Perhaps I'll plan another night out in Chicago and find those Chicago locals to drag along with me.
