I think sizes is an American thing. My readers seem to humour me since I'm a Swede, and the feedback I get doesn't focus on sizes - except in one story, where the reader thanked me for not giving the guy a super large cock, which would have destroyed the story.

I think a silo looks more like a penis that that missile does. A silo is basically cylindrical with a rounded top, rather than a pointed one. Furthermore, it has a ridge around the top, much like a penile ridge. That missle looks more like a vibrator, especially with the fins at the base.

I’ve always assumed that the character describing the measurements has an analytical eye or a tape measure in their purse/pocket.
My descriptions are minimal as I tend to leave it to the reader’s imagination.

I've always somewhat assumed they have never seen that which they are trying to describe.
