Survival - Cyberdays

Darkmoon:

"Well then I'll follow along to the weaponsmith's shop with you. Find what 'feels right' to you and I'll let you know the quality of the metal before you begin your haggling.
"If you can do runes remember a good short staff can be a formidible weapon."

Walking to the door of the pawnshop I waited silently for Franny as she didn't seem to wish to talk much.

She comes with the short Bowrod and then heads into the weapons shop looking at swords and other weapons before her had seemed snagged by of all things a 'set' one was a long staff, elven runes and designs down the side and the other was a bow, short bow alos of the same wood and craftmanship. Quite a peice of work and there was alot of hidden power in it she looks at the bow studing the weapon carefully, looked like it was enchanted to shoot farther and more acurately, useful enchantmnet for a weapon of it's type and the staff was enchanted to be strong as steal. At least those were the ovious spells. "Whatcha think of these?" she finally said to Darkmoon though she had a feeling she already made up her mind.

Darkmoon:

"Elven workmanship and magic in both. Excellent quality. The bow's runes are similar to some on my bow and will add to it's range and enhance it's accuracy. If you have any experience at all with a bow an excellent choice.
"The staff is also elven and one of the runes will make is lighter but as strong as sword steel. It can still be broken, just as a sword can, but it'll take a lot for that to happen. Again, if you have any experience with a staff, an excellent choice.
"Haggle well as I expect the smith will want a lot for the pair and besure he includes the quiver and arrows that came with the bow as they too may be enchanted," I said handing them back to her again with a small smile as I awaited what should prove to be an entertaining session of bargaining.

She settled into her hagling mode, she expected the bow and staff to be more expensive than a regular set.

The man noted the runes on her body and the simularity to the ones on the weapons and she grinned using her own cahrm to add to the deal.

Finally in the end she came out much lighter in money but happy with her perchases. He even gave her a name to use when visiting the lady next door for extra supplies and threw in the quiver and sheath. THough no arrows. He had non that could be used with the weapons she was given. But he told her of a elven caravan that were at the edge of town for the next 2 weeks.

She turned to darkmoon still in her more flirtatous mood she grinned "Lets get to the library, I'll head off to get the arrows later right now I want to start my research"

"Fine. I have heard of the library here and that it contains a lot of druidic scrools I'd like to see. I can do that as you look for what you wish.
"No offense meant, but are you familiar with the staff and short bow? If not, as your time allows, I'd be happy to teach you.
"Both were good choices and that 5' staff will give you 'reach' over most hand weapons too."

As she strolled out the door toward the library I walked along side alert for cutpurses as well as taking in the 'sights'.

She was familiar more with the bow than the staff though somewhat familiar with the staff as well. Her parents never letting her do any 'active violent acctivity' and she had to get what she did know in snippets here and there. Darkmoon made his offer and she shrugged neither excepting nor ignoring him though she seemed on a different wavelink of thought. She frowned to herself and walked with him to teh library silent and once there she went inside to find the information she wanted.

THe day past and still she hunted through tomes old and new for any key or reference to the dance of fire. She pasted Darkmoon a few times but seldome long for any real conversation.

That's odd. This is what I see when I check my PM's:
"There are no messages to display in this folder for this time period." and a PM to BadForm and the one to you were all that was in my "Sent" folder. Both gone now and neither was very long.
Sorry try again please LW. *smiling*

Okay. *smiling* If you don't use quotes I'll ignore it as I haven't heard it.

IC:
I spent the day going through all of the druid scrolls I could find and copying plant and animal lore that was new to me as well as the occasional spell into my book.
I saw Franny several times as she and I worked but we didn't say anything to each other. Each of us involved with our own research.
I kept searching, reading and occasionally writing until the librarian came around telling everyone it was closing time. Then I went and stood outside waiting for Franny to join me and thinking of the new spells I had to memorize.

She came out with a large smile and waved a ream of paper at Darkmoon when she spotted him "I hve a clue! Tell ya about it after we find and nagotiate a set of rooms I'm starved"

(sorry for being short, my meds just kicked in and I need to go to bed)

OOC:

I hope you feel better. Will post and look for your reply when you long on tomorrow. Sleep well and feel better. *lil smile*

Darkmoon:

The sun was dropping quickly and the buildings were casting their shadows in the streets as we began to walk comparing our successes quietly but shortly as we were in the street where any could overhear.

I suggested we try another inn just for variety and that tonight would be my turn to pay for the rooms.

We strolled and I was able to 'warn off' a cutpurse following us by turning my head and looking at him so he knew I was aware of him and reaching down, as I lifted my leg, to 'loosen' the knife in the boot top.

We came to an inn named the 'Vulgar Unicorn' whose sign depicted a rearing unicorn with a large, rampant phallus.

"Now this place looks interesting shall we give it a try Franny?"

She looked at the sign and wondered just what kind of place they were coming to. But she shrugged and followed him in.

And rather wished she insisted on a different inn.

Dancing girls on the stage took up most the attention of the men in this place and other than a few ladies 'tending' to the patrons Franny felt a touch out of place "I.. don't think this is the kind of place for one such as me" she wispered into Darkmoons back and narrowly missed being groped by a man who crudely stated what he'd like to do to a pretty thing like her.

"I.. have a feeling this place won't have rooms for rentals past an hour or two...." she slapped at another groping hand and a barmaid taking pitty on her distracted the man that looked like he was going to make another try.

Darkmoon:

"Well this is what you'll encounter when you're away from a city and choose to stay at an inn, but if you wish to leave it's fine with me.
"Decide please before I get us rooms for the night and order food and drink."

Franny gave him a sour look, not about to be goaded by the likes of him she found a seat and got herself as far from the leering men as she could. Not all of them leered. Quite a few were perfectly nice sorts, some were jst drunk, only a handful were creeps.

But they seemed to zero in on the young exotic mage.

One of the ladies gave Darkmoon a look with a raised brow like to say "whatcha doin' bringin' a girl ike that to a place like this?"

Darkmoon:

When the barmaid approached, I looked at Franny for her order as I ordered mulled cider for myself and asked what was being served for the evening meal.

She said, "Trenchers of beef or pork with gravy, fresh vegetables and fruit if wanted for after. Also loaves of hot bread."

I chose the beef, veggies and bread with fresh butter and cheese and waited while Franny ordered.

She ordered for herself. The place did make alot if they put things into fresh fruit and vegetables for the costumers.

But whatching a 'lady' take a man up one of the stairs told her were most the money came from.

Most places respectable wouldn't be able to offer butter and fruit. Sometimes they had something if there was an overflow. But she was wondering if she wanted to continue with her new 'druid friend' if this was the kind of establishment he preffered. She'd seen another place in town that looked like it specilized in food and likely had a larger menu at the same cost as this place, then they could find a decent room were she was sure the only thing going on was sleeping.

But she wasn't backing out. Maybe he only ment to eat here and when the food came back it was good. Not over cooked and the fruit without blemishes, so she ate and thought of saying something to Darkmoon but went red when she looked up and say a lady dressed in an outfit more reveiling than she could believe and draped herself over Darkmoon asking them how they enjoyed their meal and would they be needing anything else? She looked Franny over like she was stock at a fair then asked her if she was looking for work.

"No ma'am! I'm fine really. I'm a mage"

"Pitty, the gentalmen seem to apreciate that figure and those tattoo really add a nice exotic touch"

Franny only went redder at being reminded how much she stood out in this place. Even with it crawling with women of questionable virtues. Not like that was what bothered her. Just the fact that Darkmoon looked like he was having fun with her discomfort.

Darkmoon:

"No thank you dear. I think we are just fine for now. By the way how much are rooms for the night and are they separate from the 'business rooms' "

"Aye sir they are. On the other side o' the inn they are and One Thumb, her thumb hooked to indicate the barkeep, charges 5 coppers a night. A silver if'n a bath is wanted.
"No one 'ere will bother ya either. One Thumb was a fierce warrior in 'is day and may be a bit slower but not a wit less fierce. That's 'is axe on the wall and 'is cudgel and 'e's very good wit both I assure ya."

"Is there access to the roof if one wants to just sit quietly and think?"

"Aye sir that kin be done. Just let One Thumb know so 'e doesn't think it's a nightpad up thar and come to settle accounts.
"By the way sir, no blades in the Unicorn or One Thumb gets very upset and settles accounts 'imself. 'e runs a business and killin' is bad fer business ya know."

I pressed a couple of coppers into her hand for the information and told her to let One Thumb know I wanted two rooms with baths for the night, side by side rooms just in case anyone bothered Franny I'd be at hand.

I ordered two more drinks from her and as she turned away gave her rump a playful swat. She yelped playfully, looked over her shoulder and winked the sashayed over to the bar.

"Franny, when they get here, how about taking the drinks up to the roof where it's bound to be quieter and more private. We can compare notes about our days work and you can tell me what you need to do next and where."

"Think I would rather eat up there s well" Franny finally admitted after huddlying into the shadow a bit more when a slightly more forward person paused by the table and looked at her like she was one of the other ladies.

But then conistering there weren't many women at this place that wasn't for hire it made sense.

She just wished they asume she was 'busy' and leave her alone.

Darkmoon:

"When you're finished eating," I said as I finished, "I'll get us refills and we can go upstairs. I'd suggest taking everything with you to the roof. That way you'll know you'll still have it when you go to bed."

I signaled the barmaid for two more drinks. When she brought them I paid and also paid for the two rooms with a bit extra for her.

She felt like glaring at him but insted tried to keep her eyes down on her meal when it came and ate as quickly as possible. Once done she took her backpack and other 'valuebles' and stuffed them up her sleeves were no cut purse or whatever would get at them "Next time I pick the place" she said simply to him kicking some drunk that thought she wouldn't notice him coming from under the table. "You done? Can we go now?" she wanted out of the taproom full of a little too brawdy of music and she quickly adverted her gaze when she saw what the woman on the stage currently was 'not' waering

Darkmoon:

"If you're finished sure."

Standing I took the two full, fresh mugs in hand and followed her to the stairs. The barmaid had told us turn right at the top and given me two keys, one of which I handed to Franny with a smile.

Once upstairs we checked the room and I found mine surprisingly clean. Cleaner than last night with a better bed and fresh sheets and blanket even.

One Thumb ran a rowdy place but a clean one. A boy came to the door asking about the baths. I told him I call him and that if it was late would give him extra for his trouble.

Locking my door I waited and when Franny came from her room led the way to the ladder to the roof. Opening the hatch I checked carefully for unwanted company then went up. I bent extending my hand to assist Franny. After all no reason not to be a gentleman.

There ws a brief moment were she had to kick a guy that tried to grab her as she passed. He didn't even look like he was paying attention. It was a releaf to get up the stair and she nearly desided to jst stay in the room and hide when she closed the door with a feeling of releaf. Inside the room wasn't much different than the one last night. Other than the bath wasn't waiting for her there. Likely had a seperate bath somewhere else.

After a long moment of reluctance she went out to join Darkmoon on the roof and drink her bear with hopes that they weren't going to run into anyone having a 'private moment'

They were the only ones up there to her releaf and she sat and stared at the sky for a long moment shivering and pulling her lower robe over her legs a little better. It was a cool night out as she sipped her beer and let Darkmoon start the conversation. Mostly cause she still felt tramatized from the tap room. Never in her life did she wish she was the plain little mouse no one noticed again. But then again if she chose the place they would have been in a respectable establishment again. She desided she likely wasn't going to let him choose anymore.

When the silsence stretched she noticed him watching her in the dim lighting of the moon and relised her tattoos were glowing dimly and sighed trying to ease her body "Sorry stress, every defensive spell I've got is armed." she shivered realising how close she likely came to just blowing the place apart ~sure girl pull a lina inverse will ya?~ she mentally chuckled to herself over a japanese anime charactor. A sorceress known that if it didn't go her way she just blew it all to hell.

That mental chuckle relaxed her enough that she was able to power down, "Next time.. if you choose just.. don't go for something quite so roudy will ya?" she sighed and finished off her beer in a gulp feeling like she needed it for her nerves. THe warmth of the achahole relaxed her enough that she felt she could carry on a civil conversation.

"So what you find today?"

Darkmoon:

I had been studying the stars, not paying much attention to Franny or my hard cider. A 'glow' began to come from where she was sitting and drew my attention from the heavens.

I looked at Franny and saw that many of her tattoos were glowing in the dim light coming from the roof hatch and the street two stories below.

As I watched she drained the last of her drink and without thinking I poured half of mine into her mug the took the first sip of mine.

I chuckled at the "not so rowdy" and suggested that tomorrow night she choose the inn. "The food was good and fresh though and the bed is much better than last night's was and with clean sheets and an aired out blanket too."

"Well, I found some arcane plant and animal lore and some new druidic spells that I've added to my book.
"How about you? Find anything to aid you on your quest? I hope so."
