Avrielle of Kuri Clan
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2/AngeliaAvrielle/red_hair_beauty_9.jpg
The villages and main towns of Gorrenly Proper were still occasionally scattered with competing gypsy clans. The Mountain Clans especially enjoyed plentiful seasons in the summer months, the fairer, often ginger haired folk sharing their skills and entertainment arts with the darker complected, ''more civilized'' folk of the busy towns in the valleys. The Kuri Clan's Circus and Medicine Show was no exception. They made their way down from the Mountains to entertain and make profit every spring and never returned to their origins until the first frost in mid autumn...
No one in the Kuri clan seemed to understand Avrielle's reluctance to marry her cousin Zahan. Not only was he her cousin and someone she recalled sitting around great-grandfather's chair with the rest of her siblings and cousins, all familial and cozy, during clan storytimes when she was a small child which struck her as a wrong association to have with someone meant to share a bed with, he also was much older than her. She was only sixteen when the requests for her hand had begun and by age eighteen the requests had become demands. Now, it became quite apparent that the whole clan was against her. After the death of her parents she and her siblings were cared for by the clan as a whole and the clan's circus proceeds went for the needs of the orphaned youngsters in their upbringing...Whatever the clan decided was law as far as Avrielle and her five siblings were concerned. She was finally told by the clan elders that she HAD to marry Zahan or else she was no longer welcome under their protection, guidance or financial support and they would fire her from her job in both the acrobatics show and the potions brewing tent. It was with a heavy heart, much resentment for old ways, and nothing but the pack of belongings on her back that the petite one with the temper as fiery as her hair left the only family she could ever remember.
She'd been on her own for a little over a month before she realized that the world outside of her culture was cruel and sexist. No one would hire her anywhere and her potions were only considered valuable when attached to her family's crest which she could no longer use...She was humiliated to find herself begging on the street of the town's centre and finding places to sleep high up in trees where the other homeless had trouble finding her to attack or molest. Avrielle was beyond the end of her rope when her usually horrible task of begging was made even worse by a thunderstorm sending people scattering everywhere and mud flying up in their scurrying away enough to soak the poor young woman to the bone. Unaware she was being observed by a stranger nearby, she broke down and wept.
