No Worries !

It's ok to be gumpy sometimes, after all, we are all human. Even I get impolite sometimes! :p But if someone will give me a kiss and a back rub, I'll be good again :D

After Serious Consideration

I'd like to officially post to change my vote on the poetry point change.
I originally voted to change to the proposed 1 point and unlimited 1/3 points

However, I've decided that idea sucks and would like to do a George W. and change my vote, if that's possilbe.

All those mortally offended, please see the sign up sheet for the public flogging at noon tomorrow in Times Square (where it's colder than a witches tit right now, btw)

So, with the current tied poll... Does that mean all this effort was for naught, and I really should stop writing poetry at Lit for the rest of the contest?

;)

My only problem is: why is there a cap for all four poetry categories and no cap for stories?

Officially...

Okay, so the poetry cap remains the same. I wouldn't say anyone should stop writing poetry, keep writing! I'm going to...

Um...because story writers are cool and important, and poets are stuffy no-nothings that don't matter? Oh, no, wait--that's just what's implied by this discussion.

There's an up-side to this, though, Lauren.
At least now people who only write poetry to fill a category on a list won't be churning out even more dreck than usual on the poetry side.

Color me bitter.
Nothing personal, anyone. Having one of those days.

I love it when you get all bitter like that. :D

But who made up this stoopid rule anyway? Yeah, sure: lets limit the number of poems or someone would submit 1000 pieces with random words and win. But why not do the same for stories? It's not like it's that hard to spew 750 words and reuse the idea over and over...

Confused:confused:

So,eh do we have a grading system yet? I just got into the Survivior contest and trying to figure it all out. :)

Ok, for now I'm sticking with giving myself one point for the poem I had published this year then.

I have to say, I'm glad that the rules did not get changed mistream, but this would be an excellent rule for next year.

It is not because poetry isn't important or that it's pretensious, or 'easy' or whatever.

Its because writing good peotry it hard. Much harder than writing good porn. I don't read online poetry very often, because, frankly, there's too much of it that sucks to be worth it to me to find a good one.

Poets who take there work seriously are great, but there are a lot of people who would be willing to post unlimited dirty limeriks in order to up there score. And I won't lie to you, I am probably one of them!

Lit is about stories for the most part. At least in my oppinion. I think that the no-cap but less points per peotry rule *rewards* good and serious poets becuase it discourages those who just want a cheap point from 'wasting there time on a quarter of a point' therefore, for the most part, those who take a great deal of pride in there peotry and write a lot of it will benefit, while those who aren't poets won't be enouraged to roll out more dreck.

Maybe that has already been said, but it seems like some people arent getting it, and maybe think that giving poetry fewer points is somehow an insult to poets. YOu have to admit that not everybody takes the time to write a good poem, and a passable poem can usually be written fairly quickly. I think that there should be some ballance, to help insure quality control. Plus, you have to remember that there is a money prize involved, and while it may not seem like a big deal or the main point to some- I'm pretty sure that there a plenty of people who are willing to write 1,000 crappy poems to get a hundred bucks. And that is what would be truly unfair to those who craft there poetry with love and care.

It seems like it was a close call, so i hope it at least comes up for consieration next time.
