Just proofreading my newest story. It involves group sex (surprise). Realized that halfway through I got the names confused and switched the roles of two people. Anyone else have trouble with this?

Yep. I did a name change halfway though the story and thought the replace function had gotten them all. No. And didn't catch it all the way though editing.

I had submitted the story. I’ve edited it. I hope the right one gets published.

Oh yes. Many times I've seen this and done it more than I care to admit. You're exceptional that you noticed it before publishing... But then, I have observed that you are exceptional.

Thank you. That’s sweet of you to say.

It is extremely easy to do this, especially when writing a group scene. Hell, I've managed to screw up the genders of characters I've been writing about for years because my brain was off on a tangent while I was writing.

Just yesterday, I noticed that I had turned the heroine of one story into the heroine of another totally different story of mine for one paragraph. Annoying.

In my current story, in which a major plot point is the jerk jock not being able to remember the shy girl's name - Heather - I typed the name of the main character of my long-running series - Hannah - every single damn time. I'm going to have to control-F for that name before sending it to beta readers.

Then, when writing the big emotional apology ten-bullet-point letter right at the dramatic climax of the story, I got the names of who was apologizing to who switched in every single bullet point.
