Taken from the castle (closed)

Speak of the Devil and he shall appear. At the table the servants began laying out the plates and wood bowls decorated with the many dressings. "It's reay now, m'lady" Sir Wayne said offering a hand for her to take to guide her to the table. There wasn't anything lavish giving the time they had left. As they sat, the other servants began taking down the other objects of the tent and packing them away.

There seem to be a rush, but they themselves were not in a hurry, but there was thickly cut bacon with hash and poached egg with hot porridge.

Sitting across from her, Sir Wayne smiled then felt the nuzzle of the wolf pup as she seemed interested in getting some of the cooked meat on his plate.

"I hope you're ready for travel," he said. "Today we plan one moving 10 leagues. Over this rough road, I do suspect that we'll encounter at least the piquets of the kingdom. Best to wear your breast plate. We'll be at the head of the column, but my guard will be in front of us as our shield. If it does come that we are engaged, move off the road. But, be aware, the enemy will know this. Draw your sword and prepare to defend yourself as my men will do the same for you."

Morgan nodded at what the knight was saying to her as she ate. She wondered if she would actually see conflict today. She could feel Azmith start to try to push her headd up between Morgan's lap and the table. Morgan tried to stop her pup and after a few failed attempt Morgan raised her leg which lifted her pup off of the ground. "Looks like you have lost your footing now haven't you?" She asks her pup teasingly before she let her down slipping her a piece of meat.

Sir Wayne chuckled, "Hungry little one, aren't you?" Then looked at Lady Morgan's face, she appeared concerned. It was the idea of conflict. He prayed that there wouldn't be any, but being here-it wouldn't go unnoticed.

When their food was done, their dishes was put away and the two were prepared for the ride with their horses brought forward. Sir Wayne had his helm and his breast plate wrapped around his chest. Behind him his men were ready to march.

Beside him Lady Morgan was prepared to mount her horse with Azmuth ready to walk along side them, but the wagon was ready behind them.

After Morgan had gotten her armor on she set her pup in the wagon so that they wouldn't have to stop later when the pup gets tired. Morgan finally got onto her horse and rode with the rest of the soldiers. She didn't know if there would be any attacks on the way which had her nervous.

The column began its slow march up the road with Sir Wayne and his guard leading the way. There was no music, no celebration to mark their progress. It appeared that their progress had gone unnoticed and they didn't want the enemy to be alerted any further.

Such a column nearly a half mile long with cavalry, infantry, and everything else in between the wagons with them were in the center being protected by well armed men. The wagons were their life blood carrying everything that they would need for their campaign from rations to extra blades and arrows to personal effects.

As they went, the road was hard and dry, making it easy for them to move, but the silence in the group made it boring. Looking over at Lady Morgan with her breastplate, he smiled, "How do you feel?"

Morgan looked over at Sir Wayne she answers "I am fine I am just a little worried about today." She couldn't get her mind off of the potential for attack. It worried her even though she knew how to defend herself because she didn't want anything bad to happen to anyone. She hadn't really faced the possibility of death before in her

"Fear not" he smiled to her, "If they want to get to you, then they'll have to get through me" being confident of himself and also that of his men that no one will be able to harm her. Their two mounts moved closer together allowing them to speak without having to shout or raise their voices.

"Just remember what we've told you. Don't try to fight, unless you're cornered. My men will lay down their lives for you and for me. That I can promise you."

Going up the road there was a steep drop off in the road to the right and a high grade to the left. Holding the reins to his horse tightly, Sir Wayne looked to his left and stared intently at the tree line, praying that he wasn't seeing archers hiding there.

To ease the situation, he asked of Lady Morgan, "What do you do when you were with the King and Queen? Tell me more of your life."

"Nothing at all the King won't let me. The only thing that I was to do was to look at prospective husbands so that I can marry before I am too old for anyone." Morgan said with a bit of a frown. She hated when her father tried to arrange a marriage for her because all the princes acted like spoiled brats.

"Have there been any suitors that you did like?" he asked with a thin smile, perhaps teasing her. He didn't want to see her so disappointed. After all, it wasn't her fault but being out here, she could see a more positive.

"Once you're out here," he continued, "You'll see that there's more to this life than what your parents have been showing you." Placing a hand to his breast plate, "Do not think of me as ill towards the Queen and King. Far from it. But I believe a woman in your case should be able to see the outside world rather than be closed off to it. There's a lot you've been missing."

Morgan raised an eyebrow at his question though he probably couldn't see it. Before she could answer he continued and she didn't care what he would have said if he hated them because unlike most nobility she liked it when people spoke their minds. "No good knight I haven't found anyone that I liked they all seemed to be a bit spoiled and unable to protect me or themselves if need be." She said to Sir Wayne.

Leaning in slightly towards her in the saddle, "I do not mean to pry, but, how many knights or brave men have you met?" He patiently waited her answer and didn't care for the number. He wanted to keep her talking as it eased his mind and helped pass the time. There had to be a lot of stories she could tell of how suitors tried to either woo her or win her attention and already knowing that they failed, how they did it would be all the more enjoyable.

No female company for so many months, he savored the sweet sound of Lady Morgan's youthful voice over the groans of his weary men and the snort and bays of their horses. His horse began to toss his head. *click click click* "Easy, boy" Sir Wayne said calmly stroking his neck.

"I haven't really kept count." Morgan said wondering what he was getting at. "Why do you want to try your hand?" She asked teasingly. She did think the good knight was a handsome man but he had to have someone already. She started to wonder how her pup was doing in Sir Wayne's wagon. She hoped that Azmith wasn't into anything while they were not there to keep an eye on her.

Chuckling as this, "Perhaps I am," he teased in return. The wagon behind them rattled when it hit a pot hole. Sir Wayne thought nothing of it, and neither did the wagon-master, but didn't realize the jolt was enough to rattle Azmith and the food containers inside the wagon.

"We're going to be together for quite some time, perhaps weeks or months," he continued, "But that will be all the more time for us to get to know each other." He hadn't thought of marriage, or a love life outside of the service. Like before, never any time. He didn't want to leave his wife behind at his estate to be alone, or worse, alone and frisky, willing to bang the first man that she saw.

"Come to think of it, when the time does come and we lay siege to the castle, they're not going to give in easily. Perhaps we can use you, if you're interested."

Sarah didn't say anything back to him she didn't know what to say back to him about what he had said to her. She wondered if he had anyone in his life because she hadn't ever seen him with anyone before. "Sure only if you think I won't be in the way." She said to him trying not to blush at what he had previously said.

"You won't be in the way" he chuckled lightly, "If I'd thought you'd be in the way I wouldn't have made the offer," smiling. "Now let us think about what is in front of us. What know you of this land and its people? What do you know of the strongholds that we may face?"

As rich and hearty as the land was, there wouldn't be a lot of obstacles in their way. Most of the people were peasant farmers, not a threat to them unless they were thousands in numbers. Sir Wayne had the rule to spare the people their property and their livelihood unless they had openly taken up arms against them. If a family allowed them to go on by without a fight, then nothing ill would befall them.
