Tales from th lost city

Lem felt her first words pushed back to allow for a more diplomatic response from War. "They wish to bring an end to us all, which as you know would bring the end of this world," she said, shocked to hear her own voice but still she kept talking. "The ignorant humans have lost touch with the old ways and have thus forgotten the importance of supernaturals keeping this world in stasis. They need us...all of us," she said with a pointed look at the Queen.

"The white wolf never wished for peace as her brother had. What she wanted was control and has operated with impunity for as long as she held power. She cares very little for the plight of the elves or any other of the nonhumans. I would wager that she has turned a blind eye to this Templar business but we can not. Deny our assistance," she said with a shrug as she held the Queen in her fiery gaze. "We require no permission to do what needs to be done."

With that Lem turned on her heels prepared to exit the court but her old self would not let lie the insults delivered by the Elven queen. "You called them... us...unsavory, yet here we stand prepared to join your petty war and stand with you by our own merit. Not from orders handed down and you greet us not graciously but with insults. And you call us unsavory. You're no better than them," she scoffed, her eyes ablaze as she scanned the crowd of gathered elves. The garrote came loose from her wrist on it's own accord as she felt the fire building inside her, aching to be let loose. "Let me knew when the fight is on. I'm bored with this."

And like that, she was gone, dragging Edward along with her. They needed to feed and as much as she didn't want to go, their entire supply was at the bar. So there is where they landed and Lem went immediately to the fridge for a couple bags. "Fucking elves," she muttered under her breath as she tossed a bag at him.

“There was a long pause of silence after War and Edward left in which Jackie turned and leveled a serious gaze at the Elf Queen.

“My brother is right you would do well to speak with more more respect to our friends we are part of them now”

“I didn’t mean-“

“You did” Jackie said silencing her with a cut of his hand “but luckily this is still a fight that needs to be addressed with or without pleasantries the Templars are being helped by an outside force a much more powerful one then even you can imagine my brother and I can not simply pop in and find them so we need your information that is what I have come here to ask for”

“Very well the Queen said nodding at a servant behind her “take Diana as well” the Queen said raising a hand before Diana could even open her mouth.

“You are our best warrior and you have been tracking them the most there is no one who can help find them better than you” The Queen said “and as such this is an order”

Diana growled but nodded dropping to one knee “it shall be done” she said simply as the attendant came back with the bundle of papers.

MEANWHILE

Isa was in the kitchen drinking a beer when her dad appeared in a flash.

“Oh fuck!” She said diving behind the counter as they appeared “Oh fuck im never going to get used to that” She said shaking her head standing up wearing one of her T shirts and panties.

“you know since there are two GIRLS here next time you might want to-“ She trailed off looking at Lem “holy shit what happened to you?” She whispered coming over and getting a good look at her.

“Is this some vampire stuff?” Isa asked looking at her father “is this going to happen to you as well?” She said glancing back at Lem.

Don kept his tongue in check through the entire exchange. Not out of any respect for the pretentious elven court, he simply wished to remain on Lem's good side. She was testy before but there was no telling what she was capable of now, so he remained silent among the insults and disdainful looks. Besides it wasn't as if it was unfamiliar territory. Living on the streets, one gets used to being looked down with on.

He did find himself gritting his teeth when he thought Lem would let the affronts, however subtle, slide. That wasn't her style and Don hated to think that War had taken the best part of her. They caught eyes as she turned and there was a flash in hers that everyone but Edward might have missed.

"There she is," he muttered as she began her quiet tirade against the inhospitable elves and but back as smile at her unceremonious departure. "Good to know she still has my back."

He zoned out again while Jackie continued on the path that Lem started on but in a more diplomatic tone.

“Very well," the Queen said nodding at a servant behind her. “Take Diana as well” the Queen said raising a hand before Diana could even open her mouth.

But of course that got Don's attention and a smile spread across his lips. "Only a matter of time now."

******************************************************************

Nicky wasn't nearly as shocked when Lem and Edward appeared out of thin air but her breath caught as Lem stormed past her to get in the fridge. "That is not normal," she whispered, unable to kept her mouth from dropping open as she watched the altered elder vampire feed.

"Don't!" Lem growled as her eyes flashed at Nicky before she could even work her way into her mind scape.

"I didn't... I was just...I'm sorry," she said her bright eyes downcast as she slumped in her stool but Laz was there to put an arm around her shoulders and ran a hand down her back.

"An empty stomach, being bad mouthed by elves with an elder God on your head will make anyone a little testy," she said with a smirk though her eyes were hard on Lem as she tore into her second bag.

"Sorry," she grumbled around the bag as her eyes shifted back to they're normal black though her irises were ringed in red. "Really Ghost I am."

"It's okay you already warned me," she said and wiped the lone tear that wet her face. "I don't think I would have gotten in anyway."

"Sure you would've, " both Laz and Lem said in unison but it was War who finished in that harsh warble. "And would have haunted your dreams for the rest of your lives Seer."

“Don’t waste your time Halfling” Diana growled catching the words out of the corner of her ear and shaking her head. She came over standing with the others and clenching the papers.

“Shall we” Jackie said his voice sounding bored and faintly amused as he waved his hand. The scene in front of them shifted and shimmered until they were in the bar.

“Make your self at home” Jackie said with a wave of his hand at Diana “this is our humble abode well for most of us any ways” He said nodding at Dom “play nice” he warned disappearing into the kitchen.

“Let us make one thing clear” Diana said turning to him fire in her eyes once more “I am not a damsel in distress that needs saving do not do so again nor take my kill from me” She said before going over to the couch and beginning to spread the maps and troop movement from the elven scouts.

“what my brother means is that it does you no good to wander in the minds of beings as old as us Little Seer” Jackie said walking in his voice tinged with Death and warmth “you will find your self lost before you know it wandering aimlessly and trying to make sense of things seen and done before creation”

“The map of the Templars is awaiting us” Jackie said turning to them all “we have all of the elves intelligence and their best warrior its time to take on our first case with out the support of the MCP” he said turning to walk back in before pausing.

He turns waving his hands creating a pair of skin tight pants for Isa. He didn’t say any thing else instead walking back out leaving the door open for every one.

“I guess that means he wants us to come to” Isa said looking down at her pants “So you going to explain to me whats going on?” Isa asked turning to Lem and raising an eyebrow.

Don smirked at Jackie as he disappeared through the kitchen leaving him alone with Diana. He expected her warning and smiled through her venom, allowing her to finish before his rebuttal. "That's awfully presumptuous of you," he said, his smile unchanged as he went to his favorite stool at the bar and lit up a smoke. "Assuming that a man of my stature...a halfling as you so eloquently put it...would look at you and see a woman in need. Don't get me wrong my dear you are amazing to look at but it's more about the sword on your belt than what's barely hidden under that armor. My stealing your kills," he said with air quotes around the last and his cigarette perched between his lips. "Was me backing a comrade, not coming to your rescue because you clearly don't need that so do yourself a favor and come down off that high horse, get you nose out of the air, and your head out of that fine ass of yours. Otherwise you're gonna have helluva time with us."

Lem came on the tail end of Don's advice and couldn't hold her smirk as she hopped up on the bar, and reached to grab his favorite Scotch and a glass. He winked at her as he poured himself three fingers and raised his glass. "To new allegiances," he said and Lem snorted as the rest of the team filed in, arranging themselves around the room.

Nicky stayed close to Isa. Wary of the newcomer, she pulled Edward's daughter to one of tables of to the side in an effort to stay out of the line of fire. Lem was already swinging that garrote, one foot up on the stool beside Don while the other dangled in front of the bar. Laz flopped down in one of the chairs arranged around the table, eyes on the maps before her. Her eyes glowed slightly as the lights dimmed and a 3D rendition of the Intel the elf brought large enough for all to see. The tension in the air was palpable from all sides but she did nothing to soothe it. "What do you know," she said to Diana in an effort to move things along.

Diana stuttered for the first time at a loss for words. The... halfing for lack of a better term thought he could talk to her like that? Could infuriate her so easily even as he sat there looking smug and sexy...

What? Where did that come from? Diana mouth snapped shut and her eyes narrowed taking him on once more. So what if he was good looking?
She thought to her self choosing not to say any thing and instead busying her self with the map he was also infuriating a pompous smug-

The others came back in and she breathed a small measure of relief that she wasnt going to be alone with him and that things were finally going to get moving. The raw power in the room made the hair on the back of her next stand up. Two of the most powerful beings in existence were here and every one was so casual about it.

Jackie flopped down next to Laz and Edward went to his respective mate taking the chair on the other side of Don and drinking his bag of blood leisurely. Seconds later a holographic map of the elves intelligence appeared brought forward using Laz's magic.

"We dont know much sadly" Diana said getting up nodding at every one and meeting Lems eyes as she would a warrior of her class "we have been trying to scout them as best we can but the only time they enter the forest is to attack us and due to my peoples reluctance to leave our borders we dont have much on their activities in the city we do however know that they regularly meet in churches and the leader is some thing of a religious fanatic"

"He is THE" Religious fanatic" Jackie said getting up "Or at least thats what the word on the street is some one who decided to reform the knight templars to combat the icky monsters" He said both him and Death chuckling.

"He himself is small fry" Jackie said his voice becoming one with Wars "but it is the one who is using him and employing him that is the issue they belong to an old order... older than any one currently alive present company excluding" Jackie/death said gesturing at Lem/War "there name has been lost to time but their mission remains the same to raise some thing old and immensely dangerous a monster that will crack the very universe if they succeed"

"that is what me and my brothers are here to stop and this man is the weak link in the key if we can find him we may yet stop the end of the world"

"So you have nothing," Lem muttered, her eyes on the crossed swords that swung on the end of her chain. "Yet still so smug," she added with a snort as she shift her eyes to Laz. "All that is useless, very pretty, but useless."

"Maybe not," Laz said in an attempt to soften Lem's derisive tone. She didn't know what happened at the meeting in the park but somebody had kicked the hornet's nest and the best she could do was help channel the rage she felt simmering in her friend. "This camp is pretty elaborate and it couldn't have popped up over night. The park is pretty well patrolled right so how could so many humans go in and out without being noticed."

"Someone had to notice," Nicky said quietly but still she felt herself standing and moving right into the line of fire. "Can you make this bigger," she asked Laz, pointing at the space where the reservoir used to before the elves claimed the park. Now dried up, had been filled in and covered over with concrete at some point to make room for the growing forestal population and she doubted any of them would have remembered its first purpose. Except Laz of course who grew up in the city as she had. They caught eyes then and the older woman raised in eye brow in understanding but let Nicky share it with the rest of the group. "I could be wrong but I'm going too guess that when this got filled in, nobody bothered to cut off the the irrigation tunnels that ran into it. Tunnels that ran all over the city that could easily be widened enough to get men through. They're probably coming in right under you, since you guys like to stay within your borders...which is the south shore of the lake," she asked shifting her eyes to Diana for confirmation that she didn't need.

"A mere 15 blocks," Lem scoffed, hard eyes settling on Diana. "A problem that could have been solved if even one of you were willing to be slightly uncomfortable outside of your paradise...even with the taking of your woman. Awfully short sight for a race that is so long lived..."

"OK OK you hate the elves," Laz said with rolled eyes and Lem shrugged.

"Up until tonight I hadn't felt anyway towards them to be honest. I cannot help events have swayed me one way or another. Besides, its not all elves, just the ones I've had the displeasure of meeting this night." With that Nicky stepped back slowly, finding her seat next to Isa and clutched her hand.

"We might have to make a break for it soon," she whispered, only half joking.

"They claim to have asked for help then look down their noses at it when it comes," Lem continued without missing a beat, her gaze unchanged. "I'm sure word has spread of what we've accomplished, even to that exclusive Utopia in the park. I do not wish for fanfare but a bit of deference would be nice."

"Deference," Don repeated with a snort before he turned up his glass. Not wanting to pile on though, he changed the subject back to the possible tunnels under the park. "There has to be a map of these tunnels somewhere and I bet there'll be a church at the end of one."

"Let us clear the air before we continue" Diana said with a growl getting up and narrowing her eyes at Lem " You say the elves you have met tonight swayed you to anger and you are right to feel so my Queen... she is unaccustomed to dealing with many members of other races even if that is no mistake given who you were before War choose you as his bride"

"Did i miss some thing" Edward said nudging Don "was there some kind of marriage ceremony i didnt see before i ran?" He said his voice slightly teasing.

"You are Serkalem one of the most powerful fighters to walk the world" She said before turning to the others "Of course you all have your own tittles all your own power in your own right word of your deeds have reached us and even if my Queen cant say it I thank you for your help" she said her gaze flicking back to Lem "all of you"

"well said" Jackie said playing peacekeeper and rising "Nicky and Laz both have the best lead there are a few others im working as well with some unsavory contacts if this is how the templars are getting in and out then we shouldn't go in gun blazing by the time we figure out our way in and where to go they could already be gone I think the best way to go about this is for either Isa Nicky or Don to go in try and get a sense of whats happening before we go in guns blazing"

"Neither of them are going anywhere," Don said before either of the girls could open their mouths. "No offense but you two don't exactly scream wholesome warrior types." That was mostly for Isa, Don knew Ghost wouldn't have any issue taking a back seat this mission.

"None taken big guy. We could go hang it in the park," she offered with her eyes on Isa. "I can pull out my old hustle. See what's happening at the top of the lake. I might not look like a Templar but I bet the two of us together could loosen the right lips."

Laz chuckled at that but it was Lem who voiced her approval. "It might be good for you to get some air. Get familiar with your new home," she said to Isa with a smile before she turned her attention back to the elf. "War's champion not bride. If I would wed anyone it would be my mate but it was an honest mistake. I won't hold it against you," she said but there was nothing like forgiveness in her tone, making it clear that just because she was moving on didn't mean it was over.

"I have an idea...now this is just a thought," Lax suggested before anyone could slip away. "How about we go for subtle this time around and maybe not level whole city blocks? I'm just saying, we've got two elder gods, an elf, one and a half vampires, and a seer. Not to mention the hundreds of years of military expertise. Lets try a little finesse for a change."

Lem snorted at that and shook her head. "I wasn't one for it before but I'm certain that's beyond me now Wizard. Perhaps this is not a task for War brother?"

"I think not" Jackie said glancing over at Lem "but i agree with them the power we have all of us" he said gesturing at them all is to raw and to powerful for us to not apply some sort of finesse to it.

"I think Isa and Nicky should go ahead" Edward said nodding at the two girls "they can work the hustle and see what is found we just need to figure out which two we are going to send into the hole"

"Don should be one" Jackie said pipping back up and nodding at the man "he is the one who looks the most human out of all of us after all"

"I agree with that" Edward said nodding at Don "which means we need some one else" he said looking around at every one before his eyes fell on Diana.

"You know" Edward said leaning in "your looking for the elves that were captured correct? Well the best way to find them might be joining the pipe line your self following the trial it would be dangerous but if Don posses as a templar and brings you in you might just find all the captured female elves"

"You mean use my self as bait" Diana said her eyes narrowing in thought "that might..... actually that would work"

Don raised an eyebrow at that. It seemed all too easy, Diana's acceptance of this plan but he didn't question it. With what happened in the sewer, he'd had enough climbing down into darkness and if she was willing to spare him that fate, while working with him, then so be it. He cast his eyes at Ghost then, inviting her into his mind to offer a bit of assistance for her task. Assistance that he thought should be left between the two of them. He didn't went any of his old friends spooked out of their homes by nonhumans coming around asking questions. That's what she meant by "somebody had to see something" and she wouldn't need any hustle to find out who. A steak, some smokes, and a pint of whiskey would be enough.

She gave him a nod then whispered to Isa that they sound get dressed. "And quickly," Laz said with a smirk, making Nicky blush as she slinked out of her chair, doing her best to avoid eye contact with anyone. Especially Edward. She wasn't sure if the whole protective father routine extended to girls but she didn't want to risk getting on his bad side so she kept her distance as she past him and headed up the stairs.

"If we're done," Lem asked but if felt more a request given her tone. She was already on her feet, the garrote back in its place around her wrist, as she stepped away from the bar. "I have weapons to see to." And like that she was gone, leaving Don shaking his head.

"I didn't think she could be more intense," Laz said and let out the breath she'd been holding since the God incarnate but her feet on the ground. "Word of advice," she said to Diana. "I'd avoid being alone with her til she levels out..."

"If she levels out," came from Don.

"God I hope she does. I can't take all this hostility. It's killing my buzz."

She heard them talking from her room below as she emptied her weapons cache onto the desk beside it. It was not much unlike things said of her before the turn, the only difference was now she felt affection in with those words and the way they looked at her. With her blades arrayed before her, Lem took a seat at her desk and set to sharpening and polishing.

'It's seems I've made the right choice,' came from inside her head as she dragged the whetstone across one of the throwing knives. I had my concerns when we joined. Your memories...so harmonious despite the loneliness...'

"Be useful or be silent," she grumbled and her lips curled slightly at the answering chuckle.

'You need but spill your blood on your other blades to make them like the ones you wear on your back. She paused at that, raised her red rimmed eyes from the blades edge. Again there was that chuckle. 'They will not tarnish, break, or so long as I am with you. Any other blade need only be quenched with our blood to make them the same. You will also find that your healing has improved. Days to hours, minutes to seconds...

"So this," Lem asked as she dragged the knife she had been sharpening across her palm, opening a gash to the bone.

'Instantaneous.' She didn't need to hear the words to know it to be true. The wound itself was painless and mended before her eyes. 'Useful enough?'

"Barely," she said with a smirk as she repeated the process with the six other throwing knives, push dagger, and throwing axes. Lem sat back, pleased with herself and her weapons in a way she'd never felt before, and that was odd for someone who always held a certain sort of revelry towards arms. That was when they were an extension of her, now she felt they were as much a part of her as her arms and legs. She handled them preciously as she put them away. The throwing knives in the vest. The push dagger back in its belt sheath. The axes in the sling style holster that she would strap to her back. Her most prized khukuri blades went back in the sheaths at her back before she slipped off her belt and laid it across the desk.

"I feel your eyes on me Handler," she said with a smile, though she didn't turn.

"Yeah I guess so" Isa said glancing once more at Lem before she got up. She felt her anger bubbling on the surface but ignored it as best she could as she followed her lover up the stairs. Did they even realize no one answered her question? She thought ot herself going upstairs and grabbing her duffel back to root through her clothing. I mean her dad was with a VAMPIRE for fucks sake and now said vampire looked even freakier than before. Yet she was supposed to accept what was happening and not ask questions?

"Screw that" she murmured to her self pulling on her leather jacket and lacing up her high heeled boots "sorry" she said looking over at Ghost "I'm just having some issues adjusting to all this apparently" she said with a shrug and a small smile. as he walked over to her and threading their fingers together.

............

"She will bottom out in time" Jackie said his voice tinged with deaths as he walked over and slid Lax into his lap "transformations take time especially with beings as old as we are"

"Shouldn't we be more focused on the mission at hand?" Diana said frowning "we have much preparation to do"

"Preparation Jackie and Laz are more than capable of handling" Edward said rolling his eyes at Dons word and hopping off the barstool "I am going to go check on Lem make sure she is okay"

"Very well" Jackie said his tone amused as he turned back to the elf woman "wghat are you thinking"

"well if im going to get caught its going to be beaten and bloody" she said rolling her shoulders and getting up. She took off her weapons discarding her armor as well until she was in a light flowing green shirt and tunic. She ran a eye over her outfit before pulling at it ripping it in several places and exposing more of her self.

"Now then" she said nodding at her work and going over to Don We need to make this as believable as possible" she told him locking eyes with him "which means i need you to hit me"

..........

Edward climbed up the steps trying not to contemplate his nerves. A. His girl friend was now possessed by a century old immortal being called War and B. They hadj ust had a fight and he wasnt sure where they stood.

Maybe don was right... maybe letting her center and calm down was a good thing... but they had been apart for so long that he couldn't bear the thought of being apart much longer. Even now he felt the pull to her, the need to be back around her it was enough to pull him up the remaining flights of stairs and to their shared room.

He hung at the doorway watching her. She was cleaning her weapons which was not unlike her. The way she was doing it however gave him pause. There was some thing so... different about it as if she was cleaning them for the first time. There was a certain reverence to it as if they were a part of her now.

It was slightly unsettling

He jumped when she spoke to him joining her in the room.

"I have never seen you clean weapons like that" Edward said coming in and pulling off his own combat gear "I was unsure of whether you wanted me to interrupt you or not" he said arranging his own weapons on the bed as he climbed to sit across from her.

"I can not tell you how much i missed you" he said deciding not to hide his feelings for her after having fought "I mean even if we were only apart for a few hours" he said chuckling and shaking his head "hard to believe how needy i sound some times with you" he said beginning to clean and disassemble his weapons as his voice continued.

"I dont mind it either with you it feels so natural and such a part of me like you woke me up to who i was more than i ever have had before" He said not looking up "I love you and always will you and i could spend eternity together and it not be enough:"

Ghost took notice of Isa's frustration as they dressed and shot her a sad smile as she pulled on a pair of paint strained jeans and T-shirt. She felt bad for the girl and how out of place she must have felt. For the first time since she stumbled onto this team she wasn't afraid of what might happen next. Ghost packed up her bag and slung it over her shoulder as Is a came up to take her hand.

"Yeah I know the feeling," she said with a sad smile and kissed her knuckles. "Nobody answered my questions either. Granted I didn't ask many but still the one I did..." She let the thought trail off there as she led Is a back down the stairs. "Don't worry hot stuff I'll tell you everything I know about what the hell is going on in the city now. You might want to bring a pad or something so you can take notes.

The young women bypassed the bar going out the backdoor to avoid the others. Ghost thought Isa could do with a little more humanity after the severe culture shock of being in a team meeting. "Why don't we grab a bite and I'll tell you the long drawn out story of how we came to be?"

*******************************************************

Don furrowed his brows at the elf as she tore at her clothes. "Isn't it a little early in our relationship for me to be tossing you around," he said as he finished his drink and pushed off the stool visibly uncomfortable by her suggestion. "Besides all we have is your shoddy Intel to work on. We aren't making any moves until the girls get back. As much as I love watching you undress for me, I think you might be jumping the gun a little bit."

"And if it were necessary I'd take care of that porcelain skin," Laz said with a wink at Don. It was funny to see him genuinely smitten. If Lem would have asked such a favor he wouldn't have hesitated. "Nothing a little glamour couldn't fix. I'll have to do it anyway to erase the traces of night walker on this guy, a few bruises and a fat lip wouldn't be that difficult. But I doubt it would be necessary anyway. You'd be a commodity in their eyes so him dragging you in all bloody isn't going to look good for him anyway."

********************************************************

"Nothing could change how I feel about you Handler," Lem said with a chuckle as she climbed onto the bed behind him and put her arms around him. She pressed her lips to the back of his neck and breathed in his scent that was not much unlike hers and rest her head on his shoulder. "Your presence is always welcome so never think you are interrupting...regardless of how War has changed me...I care very little for matters of the heart." The last came in that harsh gravelly tone of War's that filled the room and Lem rolled her eyes.

For someone who spent her life operating by her own set of values, to have another being deciding her actions was going to take some getting used to, and she still want entirely sure of what she was capable of yet. Jackie had it easy as far as she was concerned, he already had a grasp on otherworldly talents before Death got a hold of him. All Lem knew was bloodthirsty night walking now she could feel the power coursing through her as she tethered on the edge of violence.

She could hear it, the sounds of confrontation bubbling up throughout the city. If she concentrated hard enough she could actually see it in her minds eye and if she focused long enough Lem could feel the pull of the fight guiding her to it like a moth to a flame. There was a time when she would relished such a skill but now all she wanted was to spend some much needed time making up with her mate.

"I need to get out of here," she grumbled and fell back on the bed.

Isa laughed threading her fingers together with Ghosts and sighing in pleasure. She followed her out the back door glancing back and narrowing her eyes as she felt the worry for her favor come back. She debated going back in there to check on him before he finally decided to trust Lem for now and try to insist on getting her answers later.

"I think I would like that" She said turning ot her new lover and possibly girl friend nad leaning in to give her a quick kiss "why dont we take my bike and you lead the way sexy" she said her hand trailing down to give Ghosts ass a squeeze before she walked over to her bike. She turned to straddle it one long leg crossing over before she leaned back smiling and waiting for Ghost to join her.

Once Ghost was on she kicked the engine to life and they shot off moving through the crowds of strange creatures. Isa shook her head looking around at the world she found her self in and trying to come to terms with it. Monsters of all shapes and sizes loomed around her, entire species she though to be myth did mundane things! Even creatures she even saw creatures she never would have imagined hanging out as if they were part of the world she once knew.

"so where are we going?" Isa asked gunning the engine as she ignored every thing around her

...................

Diana felt her ears heat up at Dons words but before she could bite of a retort the sorceress was chiming in. She thanked the goddess for the distraction and turned nodding at Lax's words.

"i am the prized thorn in their side" Diana reminded them moving forward her hips swaying as she took her seat again and crossed one leg over the other "remember they will delight in having me roughed up "the fact that he is the one that is bringing me in will make him as you say a commodity they will except me to be hurt though badly even because i would not have came without a fight and i am the one who has killed the most of their brothers"

"I hope you are prepared for that as well" Diana said turning back to Don trying not to let her thoughts stray as she contemplated him "to show a hate for my kind and creatures in general "the templars have one rule amongst all others and thats that every one shares their hate of magical creatures"

"But since we are waiting we should relax" Diana said sighing and leaning back "some thing I have not done in a while tell me I have heard word of deaths newest charge and the team but how did you all meet?" she asked genuinely curious "are you two together?" Diana asked nodding at Laz and Jackie.

..........

The minute she said the words the world began to change twisting and melting as reality was bent. By the time she fell back on the bed it was no longer their bed instead a plush blood red bed covered in the pelts of large creatures. The bed they were on was befitting of a commander opulent but not overtly so. The room they were in was filled with trophies and wall mounts of past conquests, which shared the walls equally with large tapestries of past battles. The tapestries moved depicting the battles in all their glory.

"Holy shit" Edward said jumping up looking around "where are we?"

"my domain" War said coming from Lems mouth "she wished to get away now we are in my realm my battle world"

"battle world?" Edward said shaking his head and looking around "so let me guess wars realm is where warriors come to fight? Kind of Like Vahalla?" He said turning and moving over to the window.

sure enough

They were in a spire, a spire over looking a massive arena. Even from their height Edward could see signs of a battle going on down there or even multiple ones. Flashes of fire and sparks shot out from below signifying the intensity of the fights raging in the arena.

Ghost lead her to one of the only deli’s left in the city that catered solely to human’s. It was a tiny little place that her Papa used to bring her when she was little. Technically it was a bodega that sold food in the back but she doubted Isa would mind. The owner smiled at her from behind the register as she led Isa to the counter in back.

“Let me order,” she whispered before she stepped up to the meat case at the rear of the store. The kid behind the counter was about her age and offered her a nod before he went about making her usual. Pastrami on rye toast with melted Swiss, spicy mustard, and light smear of sauerkraut. A side of pasta salad and a pickle. Ghost wiggled her first two fingers and the kid rolled his eyes before he set about repeating the process, then bagged everything up and set it on the high counter. “I’ll take a pound of roast beef double wrapped and foiled too please and thank you,” she added with a smile and the boy huffed, before he began to sing at her aggressively until Ghost began to laugh and he cracked a smirk. “He says if I wasn’t so adorable he’d spit in my sandwich. This is Isa...my uhhh...more than friend. Isa this is Robby,” she said with a smirk and signed along as she spoke. Robby offered a winking nod as he wrapped up the package of meat.

When he was done Robby signed again and Ghost nodded her head without translating, figuring Isa would get the gist when he filled up the two quart sized containers with their fresh squeezed lemonade. On their way back to the counter, Ghost grabbed a couple hard roll and a few apples.

“This is my friend Isa. Isa this is Benny, Robby’s dad,” she said and signed after the owner rung up her purchases. He signed something that made Nicky blush and again she didn’t translate. “We’re gonna have lunch in the park. You think you can keep an eye on her bike for us,” she said instead Benny offered a salute to Isa before he began to sign again. “He says to enjoy our date,” Ghost said and Benny narrowed his eyes at her before she grabbed Isa and ushered her out of the shop.

“He was a friend of my Papa’s,” she said as she led Isa across 110th St. to the park. “Him and his company ate there like everyday before he had to retire but that didn’t stop him from dragging me across town twice a week for the best sandwich in the city,” she added with a sad smile as she made their way into the park.

She made sure to keep to the edge to avoid an unwanted advances from the centaurs who patrolled the waterways. But just in case they drew any attention, Ghost broadcast in image of Lem and Laz to help ward of anything who might wander in their direction. She found a bench and sat cross legged before she tore into the bag and put one of the carefully wrapped recycled containers in Isa’s lap.

“So you wanted to know what happened to Lem,” she began before she took her first bite and let out a little moan of pleasure. “Same thing that happened to Jackie, something old came down to help us fight what’s coming.”

While they ate, Ghost did her best to fill Isa in on all she knew of what was going on inside the fog.

Don didn’t miss the way Diana looked at him now. The displeasure in her tone seemed awfully insincere now and he couldn’t help the way his lips curled into a cocky grin as she spoke her warning. “You're talking to a man who’s lost his virginity to a Xhosa girl on a bush excursion in apartheid South Africa, so don’t you worry about my ability to pretend to hate something so beautiful,” he said with a raised eyebrow and lit another cigarette.

It was two drags before he noticed Laz staring at him with her jaw on the floor but still it took him two more before he realized what he said. Just like in the park, the knowledge came from some unknown place but he knew it was true, he felt it in his bones. He remembered.

“What was her name,” Laz asked quickly, trying to help without helping.

“Don’t know but she tasted like amarula…”

“The hell is that?”

“Fuck if I know,” Don said with a shrug before he shift his eyes back to Diana, in an attempt to refocus himself to the task at hand. “Beat on you I won’t but I’d happily drag you kicking and screaming by those long elf locks you sport,” he said and flicked his tongue along his lips. “Don’t you worry…”

“Oh please,” Laz interrupted, rolling her eyes and again Don shrugged his shoulders as she got up to take a seat beside Dianna. She rolled her shoulders and clapped her hands together, bringing an uneasy silence to the room moment as everything went black. Only the lights in her eyes and the glyphs on her arms were visible a moment before a scene developed around theme.

Laz found at an early age the best way to explain anything to anybody was to show them, so that’s what she did, providing Diana with abridged version of their origin stories. It was the best way to answer all the questions the sheltered elf would surely have of their connections and how they came to be the city's newest fighting force. She covered it all, from her bumping into Jackie on his first day at the Academy, Edward bringing Lem in which led to their first battles. Don helping Nicky with the incubus and the moment she came barging in on the newly formed team which lead to her own arrival followed by Death taking Jackie and War taking Lem.

“And that’s us in a nutshell,” she said as the bar came back into focus and she kicked her feet up on the table. “I’d say welcome but that’s not really our style.”

***********************************************************************

Lem was conscious the the words that rumbled out of her mouth but was too much in awe of her surrounding to deny War’s voice on her lips. As he spoke through her, the elder vampire rolled out of the low bed to cross the room to the mounted weaponry on one wall. It was a glorious display of bladed weapons that spanned generations of warfare. Her eyes went immediately to the hefty broadsword mounted high up on the wall and in an instant it was in her hand. She gave it a swing, rolled it around her fist before she laid it back in it’s mount with a smile on her face.

There was a bizarre sense of comfort that washed over her as she moved through the room, her hand glancing over various artifacts that struck up visceral memories of people and places she could not have known. It wasn’t that much unlike the surge of reminiscences that came when she fed. She felt herself letting down her guard, allowing the essence of War to meld with her being. A contented sigh escaped her as she made her way out onto the balcony overlooking the arena below and moved to put her toes on the edge of the unrestricted platform.

“Warriors of all species from all times who lost their lives honorably on the field of battle are summoned here but the only battles fought are for sport. Once one crosses the gates, all animosities are forgotten and the only allegiance is to the sword. Despite the cannon fire in the distance, this is a place of peace,” she said with a smirk as she shift her eyes to Edward, reached to take his hand. “I have heard stories of this place but thought they were just that, tales to rile young men and woman to run toward death…”

”All true and now it is yours,” she heard inside her head and her lips spread. “And all the trappings of Earth elude you here, so go Champion enjoy the spoils of your domain. Eat, drink, and be merry.”

A cheer went up amongst the crowd and all activity ceased as those gathered paid homage to their patron deity. Lem raised her blades high in the air amidst the chants and let out her old battle cry. The sustained yell produced by the undulating of her throat was distinctly hers but Lem had not let loose the sound since she fled her home all those years ago. The crowd roared in answer and through the din Lem heard the very trumpeted whistle that had been her brothers’ response. She scanned the crowd to find a small group of men with skin the same rich cinnamon as hers with their Khukuri blades raised high in the air.

“My brothers,” she gasped, dropping to her knees. Her blades clattered to the ground as she watched them disappear in the crowd.

“They have been summoned.”

Isa listened as she ate trying to wrap her head around the things Ghost was talking about with such ease. Isa wanted to shake her head mumble bull shit and buy her a round for being able to weave such an impressive story. Monsters and Creatures coming out of the fog! Living Legends come to life! It sounded like a epic movie more than real life yet the evidence of its truth were all around Isa. Creatures walked the street going about there day as if it was entirely normal, above her dragons and other winged beast flew roaring every once in a while as if to say im here, and her own father! Her own father was a vampire! And dating one!

This was Isabellas new normal

She inwardly scowled once again berating her self for being such a fool for plunging into the smoke with little to no regard of what she might find inside of it. Of course that was the way she rolled barreling into things without sparing a second thought to what might happen and here she was again faced with a situation she could have never imagined.

then again it wasnt all bad she thought ot her self eyeing Ghost up and down, A hot girl she was spending the day with and finding her dad even if he was.... some thing else. If she could get used to what she was surrounded by she might actually be able to find happiness.

"I guess I just need to get used to it" she finally said finishing of her sandwhich and giving an appreciative mmmm "I mean at least i have good company" she said winking before getting up and brushing the crumbs off.

"Shall we baby" she said smiling and holding out her hand.

..................

She blinked shaking her head her mind still flashing with all that she had seen from Laz. Diana like all elfs was blessed with the ability to recall every second of her long life (of course every thing from after the fog stuck was lost to him) every battle, every fight it was all there for her to contemplate reflect and learn from but her history was nothing compared to the history of the sorceress.

"you have lived a long life" Diana said inclining her head at the girl in respect before looking around at all of them "Of course we have heard of the actions of this team even in our forest there is still gossip but ot see it first hand is an entirely other thing"

"you walk with the pale one the vampire walks with the war bringer this team is shaking up the very desitny of the earth and this city" Diana said leaning back sipping her water "do you ever fear the responsibility?"

.......................

Edward joined her on the balcony wrapping his arms around her from behind as they both contemplated the world they found themselves in. Edward felt his own spirit sing and soar the warrior in him rejoicing at the paradise they found themselves in. He looked down at the battlefield stretched below them his eyes scanning back and forth. Every warrior seemed to be gathered below to welcome their master/mistress back home. He narrowed his eyes focusing his sight trying to make sure (or perhaps hoping he was) to make sure the russian wasn't there.

Suddenly Lem was falling to her knees gasping as her brother appeared. Edward opening his mouth to ask her about them but before he could he watched them dissapear moving back into the crowd.

"they must be coming" Edward said voicing his thoughts helping her back up and turning to kiss her "I didn't know you even had brothers" he said softly reaching out ot cup her face "are you okay?"

Ghost felt her face go flush as Isa held offered her hand. She could feel the girl's confusion tinged aggravation but admired the way Isa was able to push past it to enjoy this moment with her. After a moment's hesitation, Nicky took the offered hand, using it to pull herself up, and smiled. The kiss she gave Isa was quick, her lips pressed gently to the corner of her mouth before she let go her hand to dispose of their garbage. Nicky grabbed the other bag and slipped her free hand back into Isa's before they headed off.

"Don says there's a guy he knows that lives on the edge of the park near the old reservoir," Ghost explained as the two strolled hand in hand along the trail around the park wall. If she were alone she would have cut across the greens but she figured Isa wouldn't respond well to being bombard by the new life that now called the park home. She picked their path without making it obvious as she continued to explain their next task. It felt good not to be the most confused in the bunch anymore but unlike the rest of the team, Nicky made an effort to keep Isa informed of their situation. "He says he's like me...he sees things that other humans can't. Apparently he's been living in the park since the fog and none of them seem to have noticed."

Don's vision offered more insight than Nicky let on. All the reading he'd been doing lately wasn't just an attempt to understand himself, but the world around him and this he passed to Nicky. He found that in order for her to posses her abilities, one of her birth parents had to be a magical being. More than likely it was her mother, given the vision she experienced with Laz's help.

As they neared the place Don showed her, Nicky got the distinct feeling they were being watched. There were other beings around, humans and magical beings alike but most of the later kept their distance. They could feel the warning she projected like a siren in their minds. Some guys on a bench shouted a few catcalls in there direction but Nicky steered them clear of them, slipping her arm around Isa's waist to make it clear that neither of them were interested.

"I'm a friend of Don Hugh's," she whispered as they came to a mound of dirty blankets beneath a couple of willow trees. Nicky let go of Isa to set the bag of meat, fruit, and cigarettes down at the base of one of those trees. "He thinks me and you might have similar problems."

There was a long moment of silence where Nicky thought maybe Don might have been mistaken. As she turned to leave, she heard the bag rustling and paused. "You hear 'em too," came from behind her in a hushed gravelly voice. "So loud...confusing...don't know where I begin and they end."

The smile that came to her face at that was a solemn one and she turned back around to see a man that couldn't have been much older than Don himself. Despite his frail appearance, Nicky could tell that the man still did his best to take care of himself. His clothes were relatively clean and there was no offensive odor surrounding his camp. "So you know the dog," he said with a toothy grin as he beckoned her forward and Nicky didn't hesitate to sit down across from him as he tore open the pack of smokes and offered her one. She knew from Don not to turn down this man's hospitality and took one, allowing him to light it before she nodded his answer. "He alright? Ain't seen him 'round lately. Thought that white bitch mighta got ahol' a 'em."

"She did," Nicky said with a giggle as she blew out a cloud of smoke and smiled. "But you know Don. She ain't keep him for long..."

"Does she know," he asked quietly, with a nod at Isa and Nicky shook her head. She didn't need him to elaborate. Nicky knew the man spoke of Isa's mother who hadn't left her side since they stepped into the park. "I'll let you tell her then," he offered with a wink before he took a bite of one of the apples. He let out a long contented moan before he devoured the entire thing, almost down to the core. Nicky didn't rush him, allowing the man the pleasure of sustenance and company. His own ghosts assured her that he would get there when he was ready.

"Names Randal Fisk but I bet you knew that already," he said with a chuckle and Nicky smiled. "So how about I tell you what you don't?" He asked before he cocked his head to the side as if he were listening. "They say you want to know about the Jesus freaks taking them pretty little elf girls...dirty business I tell you that. Elves is the nicest ones in the park. Share with me some...not like them centaur asshats and don't even get me started on the wood nymphs..."

"The Templars Randy...what do you know about the Templars?"

The direct questions got a direct answer and Randy proved a wealth of knowledge on all things Templar. He knew the name of the leader, a few of the generals, the location of their main base not too far from Lem's old stomping grounds and how they came in and out of the park unnoticed. Her suggestion at the base was right, they'd been using the irrigation tunnels for months without any of the park's inhabitants realizing it and the elf-nappings weren't the only thing they'd been up to. The Templars had been on a campaign to destroy the forest oasis inside the city. Poisoning the water. Salting the grounds. Unfortunately for them the magic that had been imbued in the land was strong than any human could mess with.

"That what you need Giannick?" Randy asked and Nicky's eyes went wide at the sound of her whole name. "You got a ghost of your own that you don't much notice. Quiet little thing...same funny eyes as you...but she ain't dead. Just," he said and spread his arms as to imply that she was everywhere.

"It is Randy...thank you. Really."

"Tell Don I said stop by sometime. Let a brother know he's still kicking."

"Will do, Randy will do. Thanks again. We better get back," she said to Isa as she stood, holding out her hand."

*************************************************

"Fear," Don snorted, shaking his head as he moved to sit in the chair opposite Diana. "I've never met a more fearless bunch in my life...granted my memory ain't what it should be but still..."

"We're just doing what we have to do," Laz said cutting off Don's bravado. "It's not like we have a choice..."

"We do but the other option isn't as fun."

"Right," Laz said and Don tipped his head at her. "I've seen what happens if we don't and it ain't a pretty picture. It's not just the city that ends, but all of us. I'm not usually one for responsibility but I can't turn my back on the destruction of everything I know, even if I would survive anyway. I'm not that much of an asshole."

"So we fight or we die. It's as simple as that," he said with a shrug as he shift his eyes to Diana. "That's something I'm sure you understand well enough." He smiled at her then, hoping she heard the compliment in his words. Felt it in the way he held her gaze.

Laz took not of that gaze and smirked as she shift her eyes to Jackie and took his hand. "Come on Jackie Boy. We need to go find my Pop and bounce some ideas off him." It wasn't exactly a lie but she stole them away before he could suggest otherwise.

"You'll get used to that," Don said with a chuckle as he got up from his seat and went back to the bar. He found his book and plopped down in a stool with the bottle of whisky and a glass.

**********************************************

"There were twelve of us, nine boys and three girls, but I was the only one who fought," Lem explained as she got back to her feet and sheathed her blade. She couldn't keep the smile off her face as she made her way back into War's chambers and sat on the overstuffed chaise. "Of the twelve only nine fought and I was the only girl who took up the sword..."

"Only five made it here," she heard from War, conformation of what she already knew.

"Belaye...the eldest died from a spear to the side in a battle between our clan and a neighboring one. We won their lands but lost our brother. Demessie...the trouble maker, Masresha and Dagmawi, the twins. All lost to the Italians. The last Assefa," she said as tears streamed down her face as all the men appeared in her chambers. Each offered a bow as she said their name but the last rushed Lem, throwing his arms around her. The embrace shocked her to silence but still she squeezed him as tightly as he did her.

"Don't look so surprised Tes," he said with a wide grin and kissed the top of her head. "You weren't yourself sister..."

"And you fought me to the end," Lem said with a sad smile that turned very quickly to genuine laughter as the rest of her brothers stepped up to embrace her.

"I see you still live up to your name little one," Belaye said and gave her head a rough rub. "Father would be proud."

"I see you've found another pale-face to lay with," came from Demessie and the others made various sounds of displeasure at his comment as Lem narrowed her eyes at him, but still she laughed.

"Brothers this is Edward...my eternal mate..."

"He must be brave..."

"And thick skinned," came from the twins and as usual no one was certain which one said what but they all laughed, even Demessie.

"He is both of those," Lem offered with a smile at Edward and reached to take his hand.

"Tell me Edward," Demessie said, his name like a curse on his lips. "What sweet words have you used to ensnare my beloved baby sister?" He was no where near the oldest but he was the largest and took his role as family enforcer very seriously. At least a head taller than everyone in the room and twice as broad, he stepped up to Edward with his shoulders square and nostrils flared. "This may be paradise but I can make it hell if I deem you unworthy."

Isa watched over ghost and the man her hand on her gun as she scanned the park. She wasnt sure why she was doing it but it made her feel better and that way no one would get the jump on them at least. She listened in on the conversation between the man and ghost with one ear curious despite her reservations about the world she found her self in. The man seemed nervous skittish even which made sense given what he could do and the fact that he lived in the park. Ghost thankfully was being her usual charming self which made Isa smile. If there was one good thing that was keeping her grounded it was the girl that had fallen into her life. Ghost was rapidly becoming more than a simple hot crush, she was nice, sweet, and kind and had a killer body to boot! She was every thing the ex marine was looking for and the fact that she seemed interested as well and the hot sex they had shared a few nights ago only made her all the more interested.

Finally ghost was taking her hand saying her good byes to the man. Isa nodded her head and slipped their arms together tipping her head back in to breath the sun and warmth as they ambled down the path.

"how about we just send them the information through text or magic or whatever" Isa siad a sudden though coming into her head "I'm not real eager to go back if you know what i mean" she said bringing Ghosts hand up to kiss it as she looked around the park.

"we could stay in the park and hang out" Isa said though her tone wasn't overtly thrilled "or if you have a place we can go back and chill" Isa remarked turning and raising her eye brows stopping in the middle of the path.

"if your interested of course" Isa said her voice teasing and flirty

.........................

Before Diana could say any thing more the two were gone, some thing about the girls father? Diana shook her head watching Don plop down with a book and scowling.

"I am not used to every one doing there own thing" She said sighing and pinching the bridge of her nose "the army is coordinated we do every thing as a unit" she murmured shaking her head and getting up glancing at Don once more.

She walked over pouring her self a shot of whiskey into his glass and sitting down next to him. She downed it in one go and shook her head studying the glass tumblr.

"Humans of all you have made your drinks always stand out" she said putting it back down and sliding the glass back over to him "so your a man among titans more or less" she remarked watching him curious despite her self.

...........................

Oh joy

The minute Lems brothers appeared the full scope of what it meant hit him

and it hit him hard

they eyed him not unlike the way his wives older brother did when she first brought him home. He could feel the challenge rolling off all of them in the air and he shifted rolling his shoulder blades as he locked eyes with them. The thought of backing down bubbled up in his mind but he ignored them instead waiting to see who would bite first.

Of course it was the largest one

"Make it hell for me eh?" Edward said unable to stop the wolf like grin crossing his face as he stepped up as well. He towered over him but Edward didn't back down instead drawing himself up to his full height.

"Id like to see you try" he said smirking "I think both me and my mate would take umbridge with that" He remarked "though if you would like we can have a test to see if i am "worthy" enough"

"Yeah...umm..we could do that," Ghost said bashfully, unable to meet Isa's eyes as she said it. She wanted nothing more than to get her alone and Nicky knew just the place to do it. Though she wasn't certain if it was a good idea, Ghost through caution to wind and said, "We could go to my place if you want...I mean it was my place but we've all been living rent free since the landlord got trapped outside the fog."

They headed back over to Isa's bike and climbed aboard. This time Nicky had to reservations about hugging her body to Isa's back. She even found a new way to give directions, planting soft kisses on the side of her neck to indicate turns and running her tongue down the line of vertebrate when she should keep straight.

Needless to say, when they pulled up in front of her building Nicky was already on edge. And none to pleased to see Laz having a smoke on the front stoop. "Aww Ghost don't look so happy to see me," she said with a grin as she stood and flicked away her cigarette. "I'm just coming to check on you..."

"How'd you know where I'd be," Nicky asked as she climbed off the bike and Laz twisted her lips to the side of her face, tapped the side of her head. "Oh, yeah."

"Look I'm not trying to intrude but I figured you guys might want to kick it elsewhere so I took the liberty of setting a few precautions to keep you safe." Laz wiggled her fingers a moment then brought her index to her own chest and drew a an "X" with a diamond around it, all the while her lips mouthed words that only she knew. The mark she made lit up like the rest of the glyphs on her skin and Nicky felt her eyes drawn to it a moment before she felt a burning on her own chest. "Don't take it off," she said of the medallion of shiny black medal around both their necks. "Even when you're back at the bar. You're the most vulnerable but I'll be damned if I let anybody try to take advantage of that."

'I talked to Don's friend,' she said so only Laz could hear and replayed the conversation in her mind so Laz could get it. 'I was right.'

'Damn right you were. I'll get it back to the other's. Have fun okay.'

And like that she was gone. Nicky offered Isa a little smile as she lead her up the front stairs to the third floor apartment she used to share with her fathers. She let it surprisingly clean for a someone who'd been on their own so early in their life. Granted she hadn't been there in a few weeks so she expected dust to have accumulated. Food to have spoiled. She was shocked when she found the apartment looking as it had before her father left. The barricades she put up in front of the windows at the start of the war were gone. The cloying aroma of cigarette smoke and pot was replaced by the scent of frankincense. It had an altogether different feel than when she left it that day to go find Don. The air was lighter.

"Well this his home," she said with a grin as she closed to door behind Isa. The air pulsed and shifted as soon as she threw the latch, bringing a smile to her lips. "Laz made some improvements but it's mostly the way I left it. Make yourself comfy. I got a feeling we're gonna be here a while."

**************************************

"I am not used to every one doing there own thing...the army is coordinated we do every thing as a unit."

She wasn't offering conversation, more thinking out loud but Don heard her just the same. Even despite her disdain, he was acutely aware of her eyes on him but still he didn't turn around. He'd already tried being nice and all she did was insult him and his people.

But now they were alone and he wasn't quite sure how he felt about it. When he first saw her, Don wanted nothing more than to know everything there was to know about the Elven goddess swinging her broadsword. Now, given her attitude, he wasn't quite sure. It wasn't that it he wasn't used to dealing around strong women with bite, Laz and Lem had that in spades. Even Nicky had a hard edge to her, but the difference between them and her was they appreciated everybody for the position they played. Lem didn't look down on Edward because of his mortality, she fell in love with him despite it. Laz and Jackie might have had a tougher time but they found their way, even before the elder god took the mortal magician. And neither of those powerful women turned down there noses at the little human girl who stumbled into their midst. They accepted her for who she was and what she had to offer.

He heard her approach and part of him wanted to leave his stool but he knew that would make him no better than her, so he sat to wait for her next insult. Burt it never came...or it wasn't as harsh as before.

"Not a man and not a titan, so a bastard still," he said with a wink as he poured her another shot from his bottle and slid the glass over to her. "For I while I didn't know what I was, just knew I was different than the rest of the humans. It wasn't until I ran into Lem that I figured out what that difference was...you said you smelled it on me before," he said finally turning to look at her, a coy smirk on his lips. "If this is your attempt at small talk elf, you might try being a little less derisive. I mean don't you have friends in the park. Try talking to me like you talk to them, see how that works."

**************************************

"I've had about enough breaking up your fight," Lem teased as she put herself between Edward and her troublemaking little brother. They were only a year apart and to him he would always be under her protection. "He's a good man Demessie..."

"I know I just wanted to make sure he wasn't a pussy," he said with a smirk, and extended his hand over her shoulder to give Edward a rough pat on the shoulder. It was move of a shove given his size but the sentiment was still there. "We see everyone here. Every trial that makes a warrior. If he was not worthy he would not have crossed, no matter your relation."

"That is the way of War," she said, not questioning the knowledge on her lips. "There are others of my kind here..."

"Please sister you can make your rounds later," came from her Assefa, the brother she herself drained the life from. "Relax, enjoy this respite. We know of what is to come. We know why War chose you..."

"And he chose well," came from the twins and all the brother's offered her a salute.

"We will leave you now," Belaye announce and Lem felt the corners of her mouth drift downward. "Don't be said little one. When you have the need, you know where to find us."

"And you will have need," Demessie said just before they all disappeared. There was no filing out through the door, they were just gone and Lem felt Edward's relief.

She turned to him, slipped her arms around his neck to pull him close. The mock battles had resumed outside the open terrace and she stopped thinking about how good those sounds made her feel. Lem knew it was War and she didn't question it. He had chosen her and they were together now and there was nothing she could do about it. Except enjoy it.

"So, Handler, how about that date?"

"uh sure" Isa said following in after Nicky as she looked around the apartment. It had a sense of normalcy to it that Isa was needing currently in her life and she found herself relaxing slightly as she stepped in and closed the door behind her. She idly touched the necklace the girl had given her wondering just what it could do. IT was clearly magical in nature but Isa wasnt interested in seeing just what it could do. If she thought ghost would approve she would have taken it off by now.

She scowled but didnt say any thing instead doing her best to watch and focus on Nicky as she led her into her apartment "nice digs" Isa said wandering over to Nicky and intertwining their fingers.

She shot her a smile and kissed her cheek before going over to the couch. She shrugged off her leather jacket and kicked her feet up her high heeled boots tapping on the wood as she watched ghost.

"so baby" Isa said softly batting her eye lashes "what do you want to do?"

Diana leaned back contemplating his words before shrugging

"I have battle maidens i would trust with my life" Diana finally said shifting in her seat "but no one i would consider friends I guess...."

Diana trailed off frowning as she swirled her finger around her drink.

"And I do apologize for the Queens rudeness" Diana finally said feeling it needed to be said as she glanced at him through her long lashes "we elves can some times be foolish even in our old age it would seem it doesnt always bring wisdom"

"I have no ill will against any of you guys" Diana said taking another swig of her drink "I know what is at stake here I know what you guys are dealing with and I am thankful for the help you guys can give us"

Edward watched his mates siblings leave shifting his foot. His word had gotten stranger and stranger of late but it was good to see sibling rivalry and the classic ribbing of the new boy friend happened even with centuries old mythological creatures.

"A date you say?" Edward said smirking softly "I dont know this is your realm what sort of date could we go on?"

He bounded over to her, taking her hand and flipping it over. He spread her fingers bringing them to his lip and kissing the tips. He kissed down her hand finding where her pulse was and kissing it.

"Or we could just stay in my dear" He said smirking his teeth flicking out as he nibbled on her pulse point. Even without a beat he could still feel the power in it. He breathed in her scent finally letting her hand go down and raising his eyebrow.

"Unless you had some thing else in mind?" He said his dark eyes tinged with red as he held her hand stroking his thumb again her soft skin.

Don lit up a smoke as he listened to the warrior beauty describe her life and it seemed a worse existence than his own. Sure he was never quite sure who he was but even before he ended up with the team, Don had people he called friends. They might have just been bums in the park and a certain delinquent graffiti artist but still they were friends.

"No wonder you're social skills are...lacking," he said with a wink as he eyed her through a plume of smoke. "And stop apologizing for your queen. Royalty is supposed to be like that. Looking down their noses at the world. Soldiers are supposed to be different," he said, finally pouring himself a few fingers of the dark liquor and pinning in the stool to face her. His dark eyes took her in as he breathed deeply, noting the difference in her scent from all the other women in his life.

There was something spicy about Diana, an aroma he just couldn't place. But he was drawn to it. As they sat together, with nothing to distract him from the closeness, Don was finding it more and more difficult not to bury his face in that voluminous platinum blonde hair. Every time their eyes met, Don found himself unable to hold her gaze. He was in fact smitten and he wasn't quite sure what to do about that.

"I have no ill will against any of you guys. I know what is at stake here. I know what you guys are dealing with...and I am thankful for the help you guys can give us."

"So no more mention of me stealing your kills," he said with a grin, refilling her glass then extending his hand. "Truce?"

"We can explore later," she said with a grin as she stepped away from Edward. War said that this realm was her home as much as it was his and Lem thought this was the perfect time to test that theory. Lem shift her eyes to the doors and they slowly drifted shut without her lifting a finger. It was just a test and she smiled as she moved around the room, feeling more comfortable now. As if this was exactly where she belonged.

"What is mine is yours...is ours." It came over an over in her head as candles lit and a table appeared where there wasn't one before. A fire roared to life, bathing the room in soft light that flicked and cracked. The sounds sent a shiver down her spin, racing her heart. A feeling that disturbed her at first, it had been so long since she felt such a thing and she put her hand to her chest as she settled, rooted to the floor. Facing the corner, her breath caught and her hand came to her mouth.

"That's me," she said with a gasp, staring at her own reflection for the first time in almost two centuries. Lem was well aware that her appearance remained the same after all these years but still it was shock to see it with her own black eyes. They were flecked with red now, she noticed as she took a step closer to the full length mirror. Her hand coming up to touch her face a moment before she slowly unwound her battle bun, allowing her hair to cascade down her back. War had changed that as well but the fiery red streaks did nothing to hinder the beauty that she already possessed, if anything it only enhanced it. Lem began to undress herself, slowly taken in the rest of War's additions. The runes that flicked along her back and down her arms, and as Don suspected, down her shapely legs all the way to her ankles. "Not to bad for an old lady huh Handler," she said with a giggle as she spun to face Edward.

Her mate, for this life and the next, and as much as she felt his desire, Lem did not stay bare for long. In the blink of an eye a sheer lace gown cover her body. The collar high on her neck, the back open to her hips. The train fluttered inches off the ground as she moved bare foot to stand before him, a coy smile on her face as the suit he wore when they first met appeared on his lean frame. On the table, a carafe of red wine, a platter of roast meat, fresh fruit, and the like. A feast fit for a king, or queen in her case.

"Come, let's eat," she said as she took his hand. "Apparently we can do that here."

Gregor rose out of bed ignoring the sobbing elf girls as he shrugged on his robes.

"gaurds" He snapped watching as his two best men moved forward and began the process of kickign the elf woman back into the chamber he kept them in. He paid them no mind instead patting his sweaty bald head as he moved through his dark chamber. He scowled at the sewer pipes angry for having to hide when he should be in a grand temple.

However the humans werent ready to take up arms not completely at least so he was forced to go under ground to slowly invade the elves dominion with his forces.

Inch by bloody inch as his master required him to

He walked into the other room pausing to lock the door before turning to the alter. It was a old thing wicked looking in appearance (though his eyes saw it as grand) made of a old grey stone, it had strange runes carved all over them he could not read. He placed one hand on it kneeling and bowing his head in prayer.

"I stand to serve master" Gregor said keeping his head down "what do you have to ask of me"

"You are doing well Grand Templar"

The man who said it rolled out of his shadows his wheel chair creaking to a halt in fron of the alter. The man had no features as the heavy black cloak he wore was as deep and dark as the shadow he cast. He placed one hand withered and boney on the alter and suddenly the alter began to drip with blood it ran through the runes and circled around it as it began to pulsate.

"Blood is life" The man whispered "continue to wage your war against the inhuman scum continue to drain their blood do so and you shall get your reward" he reminded him laughing and coughing.

"Yes master" Gregor said

"I will do whatever you ask"

"Piece of shit!"

Wade pushed himself back getting out of his chair as it rolled across the room. He scowled at the computer in front of him resisting the urge to grab it and toss it across the floor. He couldn't... wouldn't! Work on this piece of shit thing. What they were asking him to do was damn near impossible on a computer slower than his grandmother.

"This just aint going to work any more" Wade said zipping and unzipping his neon blue hoodie as he turned to the door "I'm going to need a better computer" He said more to himself than the door.

"which means im going ot have to ask her" he told himself sighing and rubbing his nose "you can do it man"

they hadnt talked much not since there "moment" a few weeks ago. He still didnt know how to approach her the woman in charge of making sure he stayed "kidnapped". He could tell she wasnt to happy with her lot in life either that she was supposed to be guarding him instead of doing some thing more legitament.

Which of course made it harder for him to interact with her

"you can do this" Wade said looking at the door "you just ask so hey!" he said his voice rising.

"Hey good looking i'll trade you a sweet sensual kiss for a new computer" Wade said even doing an exaggerated eyebrow wiggle straight at the door.

Diana took her glass stiffening slightly as their fingers touched before raising her own glass.

"from one warrior to another" she said clinking their glasses together before repeating it in her language. She tipped the glass back draining it in one smooth motion letting the liquid rush down her body and burning in her veins. She sat it down letting her fingers dance around the rim as she watched him.

What drew her in so much? She though her eyes running up and down his body. well there was THAT but no there was some thing more. Maybe it was his eyes which spoke of his broken and mysterious past, maybe it was because he was like her like her in a lot of ways.

or once again it could be because he was hot

"So soon we will be going into the as you humans say pit of vipers" Diana reminded him reaching to pour her self another drink "do you think we are ready?" She teased flirting a bit as she poured another shot.

...................

"as you wish my love" Edward said watching her as she danced away from him he reached out to grab her again before he paused cocking his head as the fire roared to life. He watched as she conversed with war and in that moment any jealousy or ill will he felt for not having became war with her melted away.

She was made for war

It suited her fit her like a second glove. Not even with Jackie was there such a good merging. She was deaths daughter in a way bred by him and forged in his fire.

And she was beautiful

He chuckled when she breathed that me, his eyes darkening to desire as he watched her undress. Her body hadn't been changed much by war but the touches that were there only highlighted her beauty and her power. However she did not remain naked for long a gown that made his mouth water forming over her body.

"I would love to eat with you" he said taking her hand kissing it and grazing his teeth against her knuckles. He walked over to her side pulling out her chair for her before scooting her in. He went to his own seat sliding down into it and smiling at her.

"War suits you" he said watching her not wanting to eat just yet "even though i think you suit war just as well" he said winking at her.

Joan sat with he back against the wall, eye closed balance on the back legs of her chair. As usual, her ear buds were firmly in place and she bobbed her head to heavy bass of deep house. Aside from drowning out the dirge of the containment unit that had become the background noise of her life, she actually liked it. And Joan didn't much like anything these days.

Her time with the Templars had been an exercise in restraint. Despite her exemplary military record, she had yet to be used to her potential and it was starting to grate on her. She signed up to kill the invaders not babysit some nerd who was being held to do heaven knew what while her brothers in arms were dying in the streets all over the city. She would have left months ago had it not been for the whispers about their fearless leaders proclivities for sadism. Joan was by no means chaste but found it hard to reconcile the rumors of Gregor's habits with his holier than thou image. And worse, she had seen more than a few of the pointy eared abominations being led to his chambers for interrogation, never to be seen again. If she believed them dead, she wouldn't have given it a second thought but Joan had spent some time as prisoner of war. The sounds of torture were something she experienced first hand and the sounds that came from Gregor's chambers at night were not that.

But what could she do? If she left, Joan knew she'd have to figure out how to live with those filthy beings that infested the city now. She was smart enough to know that trying to fight them alone would see her killed, or worse, contained with the bad ones in the MPC brig. She didn't have a choice, but she didn't have to enjoy it either.

Sensing movement, Joan righted her chair and set her feet on the floor. Her hand went to the 9mm on her hip as she opened her eyes to see Wade making a ridiculous face. It was against protocol but, Joan had stopped locking his door when she was on watch. He might have been an inch or so taller and outweighed her by a few dozen pounds but he was a pipsqueak as far the ex-marine was concerned. He;d said something but with her music still one she wasn't quite sure what, nor was she interested in him repeating himself.

"In less it's food or a shower, the answer is no," she droned as she unsnapped the safety latch on her holster. "Now go back and do whatever the hell it is you're supposed to be doing. Bother me again and you'll be in shackles again.

***********************************************

"Ehhh we don't really do ready," Don said with a snort as he stamped out his smoke and lit up another. "I've been on a few missions with these guys and things always seem to just fall into our laps but we always find a way. This is the closes we've ever come to planning as far as I've seen but then again I'm not really an idea guy," he said with a snort as he shifted in his stool causing his knees to brush Diana's. He expected her to flinch and when she didn't, a smile came to his lips.

The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end and Don turned his head just in time to see Laz appear out of thin air. She smirked at his rolled eyes as she came to sit on the bar on the other side of him.

"Nice to see some friendly conversation," she said with a grin at Diana as she stole one of Don's cigarettes and lit it with a snap of her fingers. "I talked to Nicky..."

"Is she..."

"Please," Laz said with rolled eyes at Don. "She's hulled up at her place with Isa until we get things better situated here. With Lem and Edward MIA, you guys about to go undercover and me and Jackie possibly going off world with my pop, I don't want them being alone here. That Isa is something else but she has no fucking idea how the city works now and I'll be damned if I let anything happen to them."

"Thanks," Don said and Laz shrugged her shoulders as she blew out a few smoke rings that slowly linked together to form a chain. "Show off," he muttered under his breath and Laz gave him a shove.

"No thanks necessary bro...she's as much mine as she is yours...same as the rest of you...which brings me to my next point," she said as her eyes began to glow. The room darkened around them.

The only light came from her eyes but Don didn't have any trouble seeing Laz or Diana for that matter. 'Relax,' he heard inside his head as his heart rate slowed to the point that he thought he might be drifting off. 'She told me everything you need to know and I'll show you both in time but we have to do this first. Now take a deep breath...another...another...that's it...one more...Now listen...do you hear that...do you feel that...

It took Don a moment, but eventually he heard it. It was faint but the more he breathed, the louder it got. A second heart beat, twice as fast as his own and he felt it thunder against his chest as if it were in his own body. He didn't have to be told that it was Diana's.

'I'm afraid giving you something to connect you won't be good enough with Diana held captive. I don't want to risk them finding it and using it against us...and don't worry once this is done I'll turn it off but this is the best way to keep you both safe while your inside. Or you can keep it...you're call. Either way, you'll be able to communicate telepathically with each other and if things get hot for either of you the other will feel it immediately. If you weren't such a hard ass I wouldn't have done this Diana but I know you'll use your discretion before you sound the alarm. You need to trust him...trust that he'll be there for you when you need him. And Don you need to trust that she'll call. Trust each other. That's the only way this is going to work.

And like that everything went back to normal. Well mostly normal. It was like Don could feel the mental tether Laz made between him and Diana, and it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. He just hoped that she didn't get a glimpse of any of his dirty thoughts.

"Try it out," Laz said before she disappeared again and all Don could do was shake his head.

'So ummm...can you hear me,' he said to Diana, turning to face her with his legs on either side of hers. His big hands feel naturally on her thighs and a smile came to his lips as he held her gaze. 'I apologize in advance for anything inappropriate that comes through.'

Wade narrowed his eyes a sudden burst of anger filling him. Really? So he was getting yelled at for trying to do the job he had been kidnapped for? He noted her unlatching the gun but didn't let it affect him. She was here to guard him but she was also here to make sure he did his job.

Which he wouldn't be able to do if he was shot

He narrowed his eyes riding the anger wave as he crossed his arms. He mimed her pulling out her head phones and waited until she did before speaking.

"Look you guys want me to do this fucking thing right?" He growled pointing at the computer "that way you can get the shit out of here guarding my ass right? Well I cant do it on this shit" He said jerking his thumb at it.

"Its a shit computer and doesnt even have the necessary tools I need" Wade restated "I need my computer! Or at least one thats better so you can get off your ass and help me or get me better equipment or we can just sit here and I can stare at your hot face and wait"

He stood his ground staring her down and ignoring the fear beginning to creep inside of him.

...................

Diana was about to say some thing when the other wordly sorceress reappeared. He heard her confirm the two human girls were okay and even Diana found her self breathing a sigh of relief. She had no doubt they wouldnt be here if they werent capable but..... they were still children.

The room began to darken and Diana turned giving Laz her full attention as she began to speak into both of their minds. She felt the magic flaring up her magical blood tingling as she raw power washed over her. She shivered and her heart sped up closing her eyes as she focused on her breathing and his. She nodded at Laz's words giving her consent as the magic began to work. The tether that connected the three of them thickened becoming more solid as the vague feeling of Don's thoughts entered her own.

Suddenly the lights were back on and Laz was gone leaving the two of them alone. Diana began to think towards Don but before she could he was turning. Suddenly he was dangerously close their eyes locking as his hands fell on her thigh and he asked if she could hear him.

"Hand so warm" She thought before shaking her head. Her own hands fell down light fingers stroking his knee cap as she held his gaze.

"I can" Diana said blushing slightly at her little mis up "and apparently im going to have to warn you about the same thing" She thought keeping his gaze for several minutes before sliding away.

"So shall we go?" She thought raising an eyebrow "you say you and your team dont usually go ready so shall we start?"

An actual smile came to Joan's lips as she looked at the little nerd steam. For a moment, it looked like his glasses had fogged up but it was just her imagination. "You know," she said with a grin as she pushed up from the chair. Joan shift her blue eyes up and down the hall to ensure that they were alone before she pulled the 9mm from her waist. "If a better man talked to me like that, he'd be tasting his insides," she said as she took a step towards him, the gun firm in his crotch as she looked up at him. "You ain't worth the ammo sweets...or the paperwork."

Joan gave him a hard shove and he tumbled back into his room. She put a boot to the door and slammed it shut before she removed the clip from her gun. A yank at the slide forced the last bullet out of the chamber and Joan caught it midair before she set it down on the cot by the door. "This is cute...you're whole tough guy act," she said as she pulled off her flack jacket and lay it down beside her gun. "The thing is though that shit don't work someone who actually is tough," she said and rolled her neck, let her knuckles crack before she set her feet. "You wanna take a swing at me poindexter...I dare you."

********************************************

Don smiled as he heard Dianna's voice in his head. 'God your voice sounds so much more beautiful like that...like a song...' He thought to himself before he realized she could hear it too. He would have apologized but Don realized that was innocent compared to what could have come to his mind as his hands glided up and down her muscled thighs.

'Sure we could go now...or we could get used to this. I don't know about you but I'm not used to having someone else in my head...welcomed as you might be. This might be a bit bewildering when we get around other people.'
