Tattoos & Piercings

Realistically, if you do the right thing in terms of aftercare (soap and water only - something like Dial liquid soap - the kind that kills germs - several times a day - and move that ring around, too), it'll heal astoundingly *quickly* and without any probs.

Yeah they said that about my navel piercing too! LOL. Although I did used to have a ring - for 6 months. I replaced it with a curved barbell after that and a month later it was fine. It might have just been because of the ring that I had a problem - the same thing happened when I used to have my eyebrow pierced, usually I rolled onto it in my sleep and mashed it up against my head. Changing that to a curved bar also helped.

The closest I ever came to getting tattooed was about 25 years ago during a four week slog through central Borneo. (No, I'm not making this up.) My two companions and I fell in with a local tribe who were all gorgeously tattooed, men and women alike. I expressed admiration for their body art, and they in turn offered to do me. (Tattoo-wise, that is.) I thought, "what the hell," neolithic people don't make such an offer every day. "Bring it on" said I.

A couple of old men then brought out their kit: a few bamboo needles, and some soot which they mixed with spit for ink. In the jungle. On the equator. A giant petri dish if ever there was one. And me with no antibiotics. I declined. I was declared the Borneo equivalent of a wus. For the resultant shame we had to leave the village. Except for a few scars, I remain in my natural state: unpictured and unpierced. But I still admire the gorgeously tattooed.

i just wanted to put my two cents in, and let ya all know the one tattoo i have, its a japanese symbol of friendship, on my left forearm, my brother has the same one in the middke of his back, witch was the insperation for me to get my tatt.

Thanks, Cym and others for the info. I still need to discuss it with my SO, and also to think long and hard about it myself. I also need to discuss it with my piercer as well. She's a woman, which I would feel more comfortable with anyway so at least that is a plus. :)

On a side note, once I finish drawing out the designs of my next tattoos, I will probably post them somewhere to get opinions. (Although I like them already, so I probably will get them done no matter what :D)
