I'm looking for a story I read while ago that I believe was about a man going back to his hometown and reuniting with a woman he was in love with in high school. I think the woman was trying to escape an abusive relationship. The story goes on to them dating and falling in love, having a daughter, and then all I remember was the story fast-forwarding to the future where the man actually died from cancer or some other disease. The story ends with the mother and daughter playing a video message from the man on one of their birthdays. I can remember some small details, but nothing looked familiar when searching. One detail was that in the middle of the story during one of their dates, the woman tried to cook spaghetti but ruined it and it was crunchy. Another was that I believe either the title of the story or the name of the author was the town that the story was set in, and I thought it started with an 'M' or an 'H', but i can't remember it for the life of me. Any help would be appreciated.

Already tried searching both the Google way or the site's search. Nothing coming up. I even tried 'crunchy spaghetti' as terms and didn't get anything. Probably not even the word the author used.
