Unfortunately, it won’t be teens working those jobs, but adults who are thrown out of work by ever accelerating advances in AI and robotics, etc - at least until even those menial jobs are gone…

In my hometown, when the factories / foundries downsized / closed down, the teens got fired from the fast food jobs, and the adults were given those jobs - until the adults either found new jobs and moved or killed themselves with a bullet to the head in their attics (which happened a lot).

Side note:

I’ll never forget going into a McDonalds as a kid and seeing a foundry worker my family knew (my dad worked in the foundry but had enough seniority to survive the layoffs) working the counter with one of those old paper hats on his head. You could see his pride was crushed and he looked completely out of place.

That ^ experience actually shook me, and helped shape my life and career path.

The MAGA kids seem to think that the childhood they had is economically viable today. As if we're going to gain auto workers jobs again that set you up for life. Or we're going to magically bring back the jobs that make a one job career a reality. They haven't yet realized that supply and demand are global regardless of the tariffs you put in play.

In 1940, the population of the U.S. was about one third of what it is today, and computers / automation were almost nonexistent (AI was a dream of science fiction).
