Austin is beautiful. I've only been once, though, but I remember the lake and how pretty the scenery was there. I do remember seeing news reports about how the lake was almost gone. This was some time ago. I have not been keeping up on the news, so pardon my ignorance, but it's still that way? I sure hope not.

I always liked Crystal Beach (just north of Galveston Island) better than Galveston, but only when I dinna have the time to make it down to Port Aransas.
Been ages since I've been down that way though. Not sure if it's worth going to anymore (Crystal Beach, that is).

Yes, I haven't been to Crystal Beach since I was a kid. I don't go to the private beaches, so I'm not up on which ones are nice. I just drive down the sea wall, find a spot, and hit the beach. It's such a beautiful thing to live close enough to just go whenever for however long. To say that I love the beach would be an understatement. I would live and die there if I could.

Indeed. I just read about it online. It's very sad. Lake Travis was/is such a beautiful place. Y'all need rain desperately.

It's been worse. Back in the '80's, the Sometimes Islands had couches and tables left by individuals and had been unofficially renamed the Elvis Islands.
What we need is a solid 6 months of rain, about a half inch worth, every three days.
A week of heavy rain won't soak deep into the soil, recharge the aquifer, or do much besides cause floods & erosion.

Pro'lly no tropical storms systems, but hey, it had dropped into the high 60's this morning, and it's freakin' August!
So unusual weather, including rain, is not beyond the realm of possibility.
But I fear you're right. No good rain for us for the foreseeable future.
