I set my spring vacation to be during the spring hunting seasons, and this year turkey season to be specific. I had reloaded the shells for the 12 guage, tuned up the 4runner, laundred the cameos in 'no secnt' detergent, practiced with a new "lonely hen" call, was already to go to bed early so to be in the field at dawn, and Mustang Sally asked "Why?".
And I really didn't have an answer! I mean by spring turkeys have used up their body fat, and are stringy, tough ol' birds, really inediable. And they are starting to molt, so a bird that is ugly in the best of times, becomes something that only H.P. Lovecraft would love. Not a prospect for the taxidermist.
So now I'm sitting here looking at all this stuff that I'l just have to pack away 'till fall. Some birds are going to live another summer.
Going take the 4runner out and find some mud!
