That thing you excel at

We brag about our scores, number of views, positive comments, and so on, yet most of us are trying to be modest when talking about our abilities as a writer in order not to look pretentious or self-absorbed. Well, this thread is exactly about that!

In your opinion, what is the thing that puts you above the average writer in your preferred category? If you are feeling more confident, what puts you above most writers in your category? Do you write better plots? Are your characters better fleshed out and more genuine? Does your smut make readers harder and wetter than that of most other authors in the category?
Don't be shy, this is the place where you get to say your thoughts about your own ability in comparison to the "average" or even "good" author in a certain category. No jabs are allowed towards authors who make some bold claim! Well, maybe just a little ;) Also, no talking about other authors' abilities and being humble towards them. No, no and no! This is a pure memememe thread.
Come on, tell us why is your particular mom/son story better than the average one.

I'll start. My preferred category is SciFi&Fantasy (duh!) and what I believe I do better than the average or even good author in the category is the world-building and lore. I believe I am not bad in other departments as well, but my readers seem to think that I excel at being imaginative and at creating a fantasy world and its lore. I tend to agree with them.

Now, come on, fire away, this thread doesn't tolerate pussies! (I am of course not talking about the lovely organ that makes our lives a hundred times better :D:love::p)
What is the thing I do best? to be honest, I haven't a clue. No that is not false (or real) modesty or the lack of an ego. Mine's as big as anyone's (yeah most guys say that too! 😁 ). it's ignorance of the answer to that particular question. It would be easier for me to answer the opposite question: which is your worst skill as a writer.

I don't know what part of the writing process, a particular skill as an author is my best one. In fact, I've never really thought about it. That's because I'm always looking for my weaknesses, not to use as self-flagellation, but so I may find ways to improve those weaknesses.

I do know I must be good at some things. I've written in 6 different categories and all of my stories are doing well, even in the perceived cesspool of LW.

If I had to tag one thing though that I thought I was good at it would be listening. How does that equate to writing a story? To my mind to be a good writer one must be aware of the world world them, the experiences, thoughts, desires and opinions of everyone the writer comes in contact with. As a writer, I must learn from those people and situations around me. I figured out a long time ago, if I have my mouth open spouting foo fraa I won't' be able to hear what others have to say. So I listen. And learn. And put that to work in my writing.

I was a good PI. Oh, this isn't about anything but writing. Um, I don't know, to be honest. I think I am a competent writer but I don't think I excel at much in erotic literature.

Well, maybe I'm better than average to pretty good at erotic horror.

My talent lies in the plain style. My prose is simple, direct, and evocative. I’m elegant without being florid, intellectual without being pompous, and casually crude when necessary.

I’m good at playful repartee until the time comes for raw animal fucking. Then I say ā€œcuntā€ a lot.

From comments and feedback, I understand I write really good dialog. It's tough not to think of it as a left-handed compliment, since I'm trying to write smutty stories that turn people on. Akin to someone saying, "He's funny and has a great personality," or my wife telling me, "You look better from behind."

I get the most comments and messages on my dialogue. If I had to hang my hat on anything, it would be that I write dialogue that sounds realistic, that flows fairly well, and works for the stories. I take pride in that because that added bit of realism, dialogue that doesn't sound fake or wooden, has to be worth at least and extra .25 of a score.

Noncon/Reluctance is what I like writing the most, emphasis on the reluctance. Doing a pretty good job at it too.

Could have to do with the shitload of romance novels I've read. when reluctance is the overarching theme, I'll reread them

Much like [I believe it was] how the Easton killed more of it's passengers than the Titanic; I believe I have more 3.XX stories that anybody who post in AH. Ain't much, but it's honest pathetic work. Snaps suspenders
