The 12th Annual Literotica Award Nominations: Most Literary--Genre Transcending

First let me just say I don’t know JazCullen. I`m pretty sure I`ve never read one of her offerings.

When I found out today that the 12th ANNUAL AWARDS nomination process had started I clicked open the various nomination threads. My immediate question to myself was: “when did soular change her name?” I’m serious – that’s what came to mind.

Miss Cullen had nominations on every thread … from people who’d never posted before … nominating the same characters and the same scenes within minutes of each other. Only one person has ever been able to do this before – soular.

So Miss Cullen is either soular or she’s stolen a page out of her book. I investigated further…

She joined the site in December 2009. She’s a female. She writes ROMANCE and NON-HUMAN! She has more FAVORITE AUTHORS than any author I’ve ever seen. And they’re the usual suspects…

I did some more detecting. I read a few of her selections. After reading her work I don’t think she’s soular. But I’m pretty sure I know who she is… a pretty well known name around here…

The QUEEN talked about ALTS in her original post – I wonder if she’ll be prepared to out MissCullen ALTS? Or is the fix in for the sixth straight year?

Sorry scouries but you lose again. Only two names on your list even post in the AH, which I assume is your usual suspects. Why don't you give it a rest and quite trying to make a conspiracy out of a simple nomination.

Oh yeah, you haven't been nominated for anything, that's right. You will have to do it yourself as you usually do. How many votes did you get last year? 6 I believe. two from your main alts and four from Freddie.

A true work of literary art

An Aperture Apart by ohmanon

With all due respect but I agree with Firebrain, considering quiet a few of the preceding suggestions, in fact, are at most genre pieces that perpetuate stereotypical themes, characters, plots and so forth currently popular in commercial fiction. In this regard An Aperture Apart truly transcends all that aforementioned in every respect.

It’s a must read for anyone who‘s endowed with a sense of genuine erotica.

The language is superb, beautiful complexity that reads so incredibly elegantly with the greatest of ease that one is left wondering why (almost) no one else on here has her/his way with language like ohmanon does. After reading it you cannot imagine any other way of wording. You’re simply hopped up – not on drugs, but on ohmanon's words.

Geronimo_Appleby's The Nice Bloke

Though it's set in Brighton, UK, it takes me back to my summers spent on the beaches of Lake Michigan.

Way out there with this one....But here goes

Scouries, I've only been around for a couple of years, but every time it comes to nominations, you are here stirring the pot. Is it really necessary? Who cares if soular and jaz are the same person, the stories are both excellent.

In this case, I do think I am going to nominate Soular for Gabriella, mainly for the "genre transcending" part of this category. I don't know whether the story is incest/taboo or romance or if it's just a plain tragedy but it is a a trainwreck that you can't tear your eyes away from. Combine an excellent storyline with believable (albeit misguided) characters and excellent writing and you have a fabulous piece of work.

Soular is doing a great job with Gabriella and I am always eager for a chapter.

"Fighting the Inevitable" - JazCullen

The whole series is a wonderful study of vulnerability and strength and feminine/masculine archetypal energies.

I nominate Angels, Demons and Alex by bashfullyshameless. It's filed under scifi- fantasy, but in the course of the 17 chapters that came out in 2010 it has displayed elements of:
BDSM,
Celebrities (TV character's count right?),
Erotic Couplings,
Erotic Horror,
Exhibitionist & Voyeur,
Fetish,
First Time,
Group Sex,
How to (it teaches many morals and life lessons, and that's how to right?),
Humor & Satire,
a touch of Incest/Taboo,
Interracial Love,
Lesbian Sex,
Mature,
Mind Control,
NonConsent/Reluctance,
NonHuman,
Novels and Novellas,
Romance (a lot of romance),
Sci-Fi & Fantasy (it's posted here),
and Toys & Masturbation.

I vote for bashfullyshameless' Angels, Demons, and Alex series. His stories have captured the hearts and minds of readers and have kept them coming back day after day, hour after hour, looking for a new chapter to be posted. His stories have proven so good that people have lost sleep to stay up and read each chapter as it comes out, myself included.

The skill bashfullyshameless has demonstrated in crafting the Angels, Demons, and Alex series has been nothing less than masterful, creating characters that readers love and love to hate. Each scene has been delivered with heartwarming, and at times heart-breaking, emotion, creating a connection between the reader and the characters. Readers have wept at the torment and loneliness of Alex, were awestruck at the redemption of Lorelei, cheered and laughed as Rachel laid down the law, and overall rejoiced as Alex and company persevered and conquered in the face of perils that would snap the hardiest of men. Oh, and readers also got off on the sex scenes too.

The masterpiece that is Angels, Demons, and Alex has been praised and cursed by readers, all for being a brillant and addicting story. Ultimately, all that praise goes to one person: bashfullyshameless.

And if this testimony is not sufficent enough, I present the All Time Top List for Reader Voting on individual stories regardless of genre, where stories by bashfullyshameless hold six - six - spots in the top ten (although admittedly, the number one position is held by a 2011 calendar year submission).

Once again, I vote for bashfullyshameless' Angels, Demons, and Alex series for the Literary -- Genre-Transcending Award.

Two nominations from here:

Caligula's "Maragana Girl" and

SavannahMann's "Vassal Academy"

Angels, Demons & Alex (the series)

This series has caused me more sleep deprivation than I care to admit. The literary expertise created a work that read more like a novel than a drivel of smut (not to infer that it didn't have its share of sex).

The way the author, bashfullyshameless, told his story created a vivid world of intrigue, action, suspense and, yes, plenty of sex. The tension was palpable, the characters were real and the situations believable. What more can you truly ask for in a story?

Well done, sir!

Literary

Literary is a genre, though -- as in, literary fiction. Literary and genre fiction are quite different animals, hence why I understand something "literary" to transcend genre fiction.

Standing alone and being literary are two entirely different things. If the general consensus is "story of literary quality" then I stand by what I said originally.

So please stop arguing about a particular vote and just vote for your favorite literary smut!
