Wow, what a great story! So, the story is when I was stationed at Ft Bliss, I had a squadron mate who I’d watch his dog when he’d go home. He lived in Dallas and would drive weekends sometimes. We became good friends and the girl he was dating at the time was a local girl.
Long story short, this girl introduced my future wife and I. Her grandfather was a butter bar Lieutenant on Black Jack Pershing’s staff! I have a copied picture I took from her memorabilia, of Black Jack and his whole staff, with her grandfather on the very end, hands on hips, totally not in military bearing. All of them in period uniform, campaign hats, and jodhpurs. Her grandfather went on to become a Major Gen during WWII…a contemporary and classmate of Patton and others at West Point.
I’ll post the pic when I get back home, if I can find it. It’s been a long time and may be on an old computer…hopefully I backed it up. It’s a very cool shot. I was looking for it online but couldn’t find it. This would have been the period right before the Great War when they were chasing Poncho Villa around the southwest.
GOOD MORNING!!You can put me firmly in group 2! Well... maybe not shoot, but be strongly annoyed.![]()
They designed our so was pretty accessible. There are a couple of cleanout spots that they can access before and after the junction box and of course in the septic tank itself.I can't even access my septic without digging. The county instituted a rule that all septic systems must be inspected every 3 years. The last time ours was done, they installed some kind of access so that we would only have to dig down to it ( about 12") and not have to uncover the entire top of the tank. That was about 4 years ago. I'm a year overdue on my inspection.![]()
Oh jeez. That’s bad Lil.As soon as my project is done, there will be plenty of room for you! I'm currently squatting in one guest room. The other is full of stuff from the rooms being worked on.
Nobody showed AGAIN today! I called the contractor and totally lost my shit on him in a VM. I told him I was sick of the delays, no-shows, and that I did not feel valued as the customer. I also threatened to terminate the contract. He called me back. Said he will be here tomorrow (today, now) with tile and 3 guys. I'm not holding my breath.![]()
That’s the spirit!!I'm trying not to. I did choose to "slowly" walk down the stairs twice yesterday. Still too scared to try upstairs. I also "slowly" walked a mile yesterday. I was stiff and a little sore but not too bad. Baby steps![]()
Sorry to hear about your cousin, B2…I meant to post yesterday my appreciation for veterans. My father and 2 uncles served in WWII, my cousins served in the Army or Marines and one retired as a Colonel, and my son in law was a Marine. I learned one my cousins just passed yesterday.
Sorry to hear this as well B2.Yesterday was filled with many emotions. My gift was my granddaughter clinging to me as I carried her into daycare, brunch with my GF and dinner with my son. The sadness came as I learned my brother in law of 57 years (like a brother) is fading from kidney failure. I am hoping he makes it to his dialysis on Wednesday. My sister needs to vent to me. Friends continue to vent to me about their problems.
It gets lonely as I am dealing with my own health issues (possible prostate cancer). I really miss my wife in these times.
I am thankful for all of you!
I knew it!!
Love super Fred!!

Was thinking the exact same thing. AND figured you beat me to it!
Yes I was, but the in between kind. Warrant. I went in as an E3 in basic, then upon graduation they promoted our class to E5 due to regulations on flight crews and pay. I was an E5 for a whopping 2 or 3 days, that was how long it took to get from Ft Jackson to Ft RuckerWow, what a great story!
Thank you for sharing it. I would love to see the photo.
Were you an officer when you were in, HDH? If so I’ll have to snap a smart and crisp salute each time I see you.
I worked for a living.![]()
