The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

First, you need better dirty secrets!

Now the boring bit. Managing people is one of the most difficult jobs there is because people are complex. A team is just a group of individuals working towards a common goal. To make a team function effectively you need to understand the real-life issues and personal motivations of the individuals. That means investing time in getting to know people and showing that you understand their issues. Sometimes it means being honest with someone that your company/department is unlikely to be able to meet their goals and helping them move on.

As for teambuilding exercises, my experience is that your best option is to periodically, no more than once a quarter, one of which is a Christmas party, pay for a night out of low level entertainment involving food and drink. Get them together for a couple of hours to let their hair down and then carry on. I attended numerous 'professional' teambuilding' events full of unimaginative ideas and slogans and never saw one that was better than showing co-workers that you understood their life/work balance and were honest with them.

Now, back to pics of peoples flowers ;)
I love this, NC! What an astute assessment of management. It's all about people skills. Some have them; some don't. The unfortunate thing is that when companies promote from within, they tend to promote good workers without giving them education on management of others. It's a soft skill that not many possess innately.

Good morning all. I woke at 430 am due to sinus pressure again. I have done everything to prevent it except sleep upright in a chair. A recliner may be in my future 🤣.

Speaking of dentist, I have my regular teeth cleaning and hope for no issues. Later I have a massage. Now some like Lilli, have a personal trainer, whereas I prefer the strong hands of a woman masseuse. 😉

Have a great day.
I should schedule a massage. I used to get one on a regular basis.

Thank you all for the wonderful replies to my tooth situation. The oral surgeon was recommending the root canal, and since the "experts" on here agree, I think that is the path I shall travel.
Take some ibuprofen or other pain reliever before you go in. It will help. 🫂

If you have a great deal of anxiety, ask your dentist for an anxiolytic like ativan or Valium. You will need someone to drive you to and from the procedure. Actually, it's probably a good idea to have a driver in any case.

I would be a terrible manager....
I would occasionally like to win at something and for my manager to not always take the option where underperformers aren't Molly coddled and given every opportunity to continue be an underperformer...
And where the option she pics doesn't cause me to have to do more work and for them to do less
What would happen if you just did the same work as the others? 🫂🫂

I wish the drugs helped. I'm glad it works for you!
My reactions aren't what people normally think of with allergies, and unfortunately this is a bit more complex than just popping a pill. We've tried them all, with little to no benefit. (OK, prednisone works, but I'm hesitant to use it long term).

The last major discovery was the office chair I was using had post consumer material (recycled) that was most likely contaminated with mold. It was making me sick. But that's only one of dozens of things...

When this old pup goes I'm pretty sure she'll be our last. I'm sure she isn't helping things. She's part of the family and she stays until she's passes on.
Prednisone is a great drug for very short-term use but has major side effects for some people. I will literally do ANYTHING to stay off prednisone! However, my dr knows that if I'm requesting it, I'm likely nearly dead as it is a last-ditch med for me.

There looks to be some new folks in the group...

We run this thread a little differently.

Read the first post...goes over the "rules" so to speak.

I will summarize:
1. No religion
2. No politics
3. No drama
4. No hitting on the women-- dm the person if interested.... if they don't respond.... there is your answer.
5. For God sake read a profile before you dm the wrong person.
6. If your first post is heavy on the innuendo ..... you need to slow your roll

This thread is like the bar cheers or the corner coffee shop. We are FRIENDS here and not like other threads...we are fiercely protective of the vibe and eachother. If this sounds like a place you would like, stick around.... if not there are eleventy billion other threads that will suit your needs.

To get an idea of the vibe I would scroll through the last 10 pages or so and you will see.

Thanks

I knew I should have read ahead a bit! 🤣🤣 Thanks, Likes!

I would suffer for our pup too. We have had 7 over the years. We have a Shih Tzu now not an OES. I wish you the best, allergies suck. My grand daughter turns red if she goes into a house that has a cat.
Thankfully, I don't have allergies to my baby girl. I wouldn't give her up even if I did. We had a friend who would instantly become red, watery eyes, sneezing, etc, when he stepped into our house. We would tell him we could see him elsewhere but he continued to come over.

We  our pets!

The forecast keeps promising rain here... can't come soon enough. With warm days that showed up early... so, too, the wildfires. I think we're up to 3 major blazes right now. Several days of Red Flag warnings for fire conditions as well as Air Quality Warnings - as much for the smoke as the high pollen counts.

Stay safe, Rj... some of those look to be intense 🫂
Thankfully, we don't have many fires right now. We will likely have more this summer. It's getting hotter and dryer here now. 😒

I should schedule a massage. I used to get one on a regular basis.
I was an on again off again massage guy. When I started getting monthly “maintenance” massages, it really turned my world around! The usual aches and pains went away…I’ll get a flair up every now and then but I tell my therapist and she gets the kinks out. It really has become a must for me. I figure my monthly payment is cheaper than a chiropractor, sports therapist, regular doc, AND the massage therapist!

It doesn’t hurt she’s young and pretty! 🤩

I’m in a Depeche mood tonight…

Been catching up lately. My brother and his wife came over yesterday to help us look for any of my moms insurance papers, will, tax docs, etc. Her mind went so fast. She is in a home to help her get stronger and developed a home plan for her when she gets back. So much to do.

Finally got my truck and tractor from Florida and brought the last of the boxes back as well. That feels so good not being stretched in two directions. Everything that is "us" is here now.

I think it would be easier to adjust to someone that is ticklish. There is absolutely nothing to experience in someone that is not ticklish at all.

For example, can you tolerate someone lightly blowing on your skin? Using ice to help curb sensation? How about using layers of silk or satin as a barrier? Do you think it has a mental component? Can someone get very serious/sensual to alter your state of mind?

See! There's more to be experienced if your ticklish than not. Don't envy those that have nothing to experience.

Just my two cents.
I'm not ticklish, but that doesn't mean I can't experience these. I can and do.

I'm glad you got all your stuff in one place. Also glad you and your brother are getting a plan in place proactively for your mom. 🫂🫂
