Yeah I often wonder how socialized medicine would work here. But I dont know enough about it to speak on it. I have heard many things about it. I know that we fight waste with everything we have and work our assets off to meet patient needs (sometimes to a fault). I dont think there is a perfect answer to it. Our new thing in us is social determinate of health..... hospital systems take on the social aspects of patients.....HOW can we be responsible for all of this.....

No system is perfect, the best I came across was in Germany where everyone had compulsary health insurance if working (paid for by the state if on benefits.) It was fairly seemless and efficient, with care provided by both private and public entities.
Best of all if you didn't use your insurance in a five year period you got a week at a health spa paid for by you insurance, to keep you healthy for the next five

I think Germany also has a flat tax... everyone pays a percentage and none of this lobbying for tax breaks.

Oh I took it as funny..... I sometimes think the same thing but its nice to have people to just say good morning too...or vent if I am having a bad day....
 
Bunch of us from work are going to a billiard's club to have a few drinks, some food and a little pool tournament tomorrow night. Guy told me its running from 7-10.

My first thought was I'm getting home from work at 4:30 so I should be able to catch an hour nap before I go.

Sigh....

Thanks to MissK and Lillian for explaining the performance-based health system under Medicare and other insurances. The quality management and emphasis on better outcomes is commendable. My concern is with the patient that does not respond to the typical treatment approved by the insurance company. It is a battle for a patient that is an outlier. I had a recent experience with my type 2 diabetes medication. I had to battle with both doctor and insurance to get back on the medication that had dropped my A1C to 6.1. Neither wanted to renew it because of the cost.:oops:

Insurances control way too much of a person's healthcare needs. They are all about cutting costs to provide for shareholders rather than their customers. I'm glad you were able to advocate for yourself and get back on your medication. 🫂

I'm with you there, MissK! It's one reason the drugs are in short supply. I've read about parents getting it for their kids so they can look good in a prom dress. 🤬🤬

It's true, BG! Healthcare in the US is big business. It's more of a privilege rather than a right here. Resources are used inappropriately for some that results in them not being available for others in need. An inordinate amount of healthcare resources are spent in the last 6 months of life while resources in wellness and prenatal/early life care are lacking.

Yeah I've read about that. It's actually not a new thing and pretty much goes on at most retirement communities. I interviewed a couple of staff members at some facilities in Nor Cal and STDs were a major concern. This was in the early 90s.
