It was quite simple really, women wanted a fantasy without all the drudgery of reality. So she had started the Adonis Project, recruiting nice young men from all walks of life. She offered health benefits and no other pay, which helped make her little project legal. You see she matched men with what women wanted, and more often than not it did not include sex, even though every Adonis was required to carry protection and know how to use it.

Some Adonis's were simple a sweet computer repair guy who enjoyed the view of a scantily clad woman and was open for more, some were arm candy, trained in massage, and/or cooking. The fee the women paid, covered the health care, and most men enjoyed the work without dealing with emotional strings of a relationship. She wasn't supposed to know about the sex, but about half of her employees left the work to pursue a relationship with a patron.

Well it also paid her a reasonable salary, but that was not the point. She had even used the service a few times herself, a massage here and there, a cook, even once a pretty face for a family function.

Dating, well telling a guy she worked for the Adonis project, almost always got them to ask if they were hiring. So she was single, sad, and seriously in need of sex.

She was conducting interviews today.....and she was looking for a personal Adonis.

Try as he might, he found the woman attractive, but by keeping himself calm, Paul was able to suppress his growing lust, smiling placidly as the Miriam nodded and considered the answers he had provided. As she looked down, so did he into her blouse and observed the two mounds of flesh just begging to be set free.

He took, however, only the smallest of looks as she would look up at him, and it was his aim not to let his urges rule him completely. After a short time, Miriam congratulated him, and welcomed him to the Project. He smiled fully, pouring the charm on thick but not overpowering.

"You'll be under probation for three months, after which if you've completed 90% of your contracts satisfactorily the health insurance will kick in. You'll be given a condom allowance before your first assignment and on a as needed basis thereafter." She handed him a pager, "I know it's old fashioned but it works. You'll call in get the details and accept or deny within 45 minutes of receiving a page.o

Miriam took a drink out of her mini fridge and mentally reviewed his answers. Francophile, it had been a long time since she had practiced her French, and she was planning how she might further test him. She drank slowly letting the cold drink ease off the heat she'd been feeling. Miriam buttoned up her blouse, the black lace bra still showed through the thin white shirt, but it wasn't quite so blatant.

She went through the rest of the days interviews and hired one other college guy who would be a good fit for several of her clients. Then she checked the current price of his brand of condoms and had that amount plus 10% in cash waiting for him in an envelope in the lobby for him to pick up tomorrow.

Miriam sent him a page, awaiting his reply as she wrote up the contract herself. Something simple, something non sexual, something fun for herself. Private dinner in her home, he would be cooking, contract to extend from 6pm until midnight on Thursday or he was dismissed.

After his interview, Paul left smiling, unbuttoning the top button of his shirt as he walked out, feeling well on top of the world. He went to his small, yet neat apartment, two cats lounging among the classic, rescued furniture that bedecked his cozy living room. Taking off his shoes, he threw himself onto his couch, stretching his feet out and above the leg, dozing lazily, and not realizing how long he had been asleep until the old-fashioned pager started to buzz and beep in his khaki pocket.

He hastily called the number and, speaking to the same receptionist he had earlier, received the details of his first contract: an address, the fact that he would be cooking (which meant he'd have to drive, an activity he disliked), and an evening of relaxation tomorrow, at 6 pm. He hung up, his mind stewing regarding ideas for dinner already as he tapped the pen against his lip.

"Quelle vitesse," he said softly to himself before putting on his shoes and heading for the grocery store, a mental list already constructed for his shopping trip.

Miriam took off work early on Thursday to prepare, she had considered far more intimate arrangements, but she wanted to see how he interacted in a casual setting. She was definetly planning to test him as she took a shower and dressed for bed. It was provocative, but not as revealing as her interview garb had been.

She left her dark curls free and wished she had thought to stock her fridge, then again if he was prepared then he would be bringing the meal. She jotted a note in her Adonis file to arrange for reimbursement for dinner items.

She set a bottle of wine to chill, and waited for her Adonis to arrive.

Gas was expensive. It was a simple fact that anybody with a car had to embrace, and one that Paul had to embrace much too readily for his own good. He fumed as he filled his car up at the station, leaning on the side of his '97 Mercedes-Benz CLK, left to him in his grandfather's will.

Old man should have paid for health insurance, as he rubbed at the left side of his face, his wisdom teeth giving him a little trouble. The handle of the nozzle sprung outward with a dull clunk! and he looked at the damage to his already stretched-thin credit card, wincing a bit. He shrugged it off, making a mental checklist of his groceries and the small bit of prep work he had done before his...appointment? Contract? Whatever one wanted to call it. The makings for a fine dinner, including two wines for to pair with the appetizer and and entree, and a reasonably expensive Champagne to go with dessert.

Hell, it's all paid for, he thought as he shifted into drive, his phone plugged into the car stereo with a bit of music, interrupted by the directions of the phone's GPS unit that he had programmed with the address he had been given yesterday.

He had decided to dress a bit less formally than yesterday, opting for a well-kept pair of Doc Martens, a pair of khakis with a bit more flair and personal styling, and a brown and dark blue collared shirt, sleeves rolled up painstakingly at the elbow once again. The smallest traces of cologne and aftershave could be sensed at a small distance, the smell a light, yet intoxicating musk as one approached. The address wasn't far from his apartment downtown, yet set in an upper-middle class suburb. As he pulled into the driveway, he did not notice that the other car in the driveway was one he had passed yesterday on the way to his interview. He parked, checked himself in the rear view, and exited his car, leaving it locked, keys in his pocket, as he thought it better to introduce himself before he walked in with a few bags of groceries, tupperware, and his dessert in its container. He walked up the path to the door, hanging his finger over the doorbell before pressing it lightly until he heard the chime, standing straight and tall, waiting for his client to answer.

Punctual, she thought, good for him. Miriam smiled as she opened the door, noticing his appearance, enjoying the look of him. "Good evening Paul," she figured he would probably recognize her, unless he had totally been lost in her cleavage earlier this week.

"I would offer to help bring your groceries in, but I'm dressed for entertaining." Soft jazz was playing in the background and she pointed out the kitchen. The next six hours were certainly going to be interesting.

Intriguing, he thought as the familiar form of Miriam opened the door, showing him to the kitchen. He excused himself to his car to retrieve his groceries, and as he returned, he explained the menu.

"I thought we'd have a three-course meal," he started, smiling at her as he shook his head out of his face. "Very simple, yet very delicious. To start, Coquilles St.-Jacques with a nice Chardonnay," he said, opening her refrigerator and putting in two bottles of wine.

"For the entree, veal Milanese with eggplant and onions, and a vegetable medley in a red wine reduction, with the Beaujolais," he continued, setting groceries on the counter, beginning to stack tupperware containers with prepped ingredients in them in order of use.

"And to finish, lemon squares with a Demi Sec champagne," he said, opening her refigerator once more, a square tin covered with clingwrap finding its home on the center rack.

"I hope you find that to your satisfaction, Madamoiselle Miriam," he said, brushing of his hands and beaming at her.

"And, I have one request before we begin..." he said. "Nothing too extreme, just some jazz with a bit more tempo to it while I cook."

"I think I can drum up something with a deeper beat," she smiled. Miriam had eaten a light salad at lunch with a glass of milk. So she definitely had the appetite to enjoy the meal, and of course plenty of time. She settled on some tribal music she had with strong drums, steady neither to soft or spastic as some of the drumming tended to be, "Is this more suitable?" she asked lounging in the kitchen doorway, pondering whether to help him stir or something.

She was developing a taste for him as she pondered her next move, she was playing chess, she had planned out about ten potential next encounters and several encounters after that.

"How long will it take?" she asked casually, wondering if she should take the time to apply lotion or some other provocative gesture.

"Scallops shouldn't take long," he said, as he pulled out pans from his bags, setting them on the stove and filling them with a bit of oil, turning one of the burners on to medium. "I'll start the veal a few minutes after, as that'll take a little bit longer to cook. He set her broiler to preheat, and started preparing a few ramekins with butter on the baking sheet he had brought.

"I hope you don't mind if I brought my own cookware. I just know where it is and how to use it," he said as he combined some ingredients in a saucepan, including the scallops, and set them on the burner that was preheated.

"The veal won't take long either, but I have to start it at a certain point so that it's done within a reasonable time of finishing les coquilles, yes?"

"It's a good thing though," he added as an afterthought. "The Chardonnay and champagne need some time to chill. I may put the champagne in the freezer as a precaution," he said. He pulled out a plate, collander, and slotted spoon. As the scallops started to poach, he pulled out a container of bread crumbs and some parmesan he had grated before, pulling out a glass bowl and putting some of both in, stirring them about with the spoon.

"It was nice of you to think of such things," thoughtful that was definitely a point in his favor. She wondered if he would take such care in all his actions, and Miriam thought he probably did. "I'll set the Chardonnay to chill," she directed his attention to the dining room, where the table had been set for two, and a bottle was already chilling and she swapped it out, then made sure her bottle opener was nearby.

She knew her fridge and freezer were in tidy conditions, she liked to be able to find what she wanted easily. Miriam casually rubbed the back of her neck, it was surprising that with her cup size she didn't have back problems, but on occasion she did get a neck cramp and she was determined not to let something silly like that spoil her evening.

She sat down in a lounger, stretching out listening to the music, eyes closed, enjoying the smells coming from the kitchen.

"Back giving you trouble, Madamoiselle?" Paul asked as he worked, catching her rubbing her neck out of the corner of his eye. He had taken the scallops off the heat, straining the liquid and saving it for later as he asked. "If you like, after dinner I can see what I can do about that. Not to toot my own horn, but I give a damn fine massage, and would be more than willing to help you out." As if moving to the music, he flipped on the other burner, opening containers filled with prechopped seasonings and vegetables, popping the cork off a bottle of cooking wine and smelling the cork delicately, savoring the flavor.

He really did love being watched as he cooked. It added something in the way of experience of dining, giving it a more personal element than one received at a restaurant, and it was an element he was more than happy to provide.

"Oui," she replied. Opening her eyes to glance into the kitchen, glad she had opted for the open layout. Such that an island bar area separated the rooms, rather than a wall. "That would be nice," she accepted his offer, standing up and moving to the island so she could watch him at work. She wondered if he'd bothered to read the fine print of the contract. Most guys didn't, at least not until after their first contract. The fine print wasn't double speak, just reasons for dismissal.

She wasn't sure what made her think of the fine print. Perhaps it was because she'd picked him out for herself, and not for the business. It was a fine line, but she was paying the fee as if she was any other client.

"It smells good," she licked her lips, she had spent several summers in her youth in Paris, and returned whenever she had the chance. Of course the Adonis project, and other various business ventures kept her pretty busy. Perhaps that was why she hired him, for a little guilt free stress relief.
