I had it set to long exposure - so that's where I'm going wrong!

Now that would look interesting, seeing the turn or your arm as well as the path of the dart. Lighting would be fun...

I'm not sure how it would work without it turning into a big blur, but it'd be interesting to try it out

You could compose the shot in PS, I know its a cheat but that way you could have two sets of exposure sets , one for the arm and one for the dart.
