A short real-life interlude before we return to our regularly scheduled programming....

I had to take the Wondermutt in for a checkup, and so was forced to leave work early, go home, pick him up and head straight to the vet in my suit. This is germane for two reasons; one, pet hair gets all the fuck over suits in a millisecond and two, I think it contributed.

As I walked into the waiting room, another dog came bounding over to greet the Wondermutt and I, clearly outside the control of its person, a lovely woman in her early 40s by my estimation. As the strange dog got close and appeared to be considering the wisdom of jumping up to greet me I let out a short, firm 'naaaaAAAH!' The dog stopped in its tracks and sat, and my Wondermutt immediately sat and waited for the next command.

The woman, shocked and a bit flustered, asked 'how did you do that? She never listens to me like that!" Without thinking I replied 'it's about dominance. When a dog knows there is an alpha in the room it responds with the appropriate level of respect and submission.'

This flustered the woman even more; looking me up and down in my suit and blushing, she softly replied 'yes, I think I understand....'

I didn't take it any further, but was very amused and more than a little aroused by the encounter.
 
I love this...I am alpha to my dogs, a male Pharaoh Hound and a female Doberman. But otherwise..., well, I'll leave it at that.
