Ringos story
"“Hello stranger, my name is Bel. Welcome to the Sarah’N Dipity. What brings you into town?” "
The sound of the womans voice startled Ringo, for he had been in deep thought ascessing his situation and the people aorund him.
The sheriff much to his surprise hadn't even acknoledged his greeting, could be that he was more interested in eating. A stranger in town would have caught the attention of most lawmen. The bartender seemed to be more aware of his presense but that was what made a good bartender, still he told himself to be careful about what he said in front of this man. Something about him gave Ringo a feeling of uneasyness.
He had shook it off as quick as it came, telling himself that there was no bounty on his head at least not yet. The sheriff of flagstaff would just now be returning to the scene of the crime and with no solid information to go on would more than likely try to sweep the entire episode under the rug. Who'd want to put a bounty on an unknown bank robber. and iftsomeone would, no bounty hunter would be interested in chasing a ghost. There were plenty of infamous outlaws out there that were much easir pickings. As far a Ringo was concerned he'd never been to Flagstaff, maybe didn't even know that the town existed.
But still folks were curious even if the sheriff didn't apppear to be. He needed a story and on the trail he had concocted one that would assure folks that his background wouldn't be cause for concern.
He just needed someone to tell it to. The local saloon was the perfect place to, divulge his 'background'. bright and early in the morning with everyone sober as the judge, so that his story wouldn't get misconstrued. And enough curious ears in the background to spread it like wild fire he was just about to order a cup of coffee and something to eat when she spoke.
When he had turned to face the feminine voice he knew exactly what to say.
To say she was beautiful would be an understatement. Her very presense comanded attention, If there was anyone int this town that was in charge it was her, somehow before even knowing her name or anything at all about her he had that feeling. He looked briefly around. The sheriff who had been engaged in an exchange of bit of frivolity with the girl in overalls had become distracted by a stunning redhead who appeared to have slipped while coming thorugh the door, it could be a ruse he thought, on the part of the falling woman to get the sheriffs attention or it could be sinmply a misstep. At any rate it was no concern of Ringo's as he had the undivided attention of the woman by his side. Still he spoke loud enough so that anyone who was the slightest bit interested could hear him.
He removed his hat carefull not to cause the dust to fly in the air and tarnish the vision before him and began.
It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Bel. he said slowly, Names Ringo, came into town this morning, down from Montana, mighty long trip and the trail was dusty so please excuse my present condition. He brushed his hand through his dark hair. I'd offer you my hand but I'm afraid to tarnish yours with the likes of it. Maybe after I get a bath and make myself decent. In the mean time I'm obliged to answer your question directly so that you won't think of me as some no account drifter. Been up in Montana breaking horses and after four years it was gettin' might lonely just mostly being by myself. built up a moderate amount of cash on account of there ain't many ways to spend it up in the high country and havin' a hankering to get a taste of civilzation I moved on down to Tucson country. Heard there were mustangs here to break and more social experiences to be had. Got no home or kin here or there in fact I don't rightly know if I do have any kin. I figure where ever I hang my hat is home. who knows maybe that home could be Tuscon." He looked staight in Bel's eyes and winked. His blue eyes at once came alive with the prospect of spending more time with this woman later.
