Miranda had been surprised to get to the realtor's office and simply be given the key. She had rented the cabin as a way to treat herself now that the divorce was finalized. After five years as a trophy wife, going to parties and cultural events and wearing gowns and cocktail dresses and always being perfect, it was almost a relief to discover that he had taken up with another, younger woman. It meant that she could go off to the woods and renew herself, and not worry about appearances and not having to play the role of the perfect little trophy wife for a man who, as soon as the honeymoon was over, started treating her like an employee.

At 27, she felt like she was in the best shape of her life. She still had the curvy body that had drawn her ex husband's attention, she still had the long, wavy black hair and the pretty blue eyes. She wasn't a girl anymore though. She wasn't as ignorant as she had been. She was secure enough no that spending a month or twelve in a remote cabin didn;t bother her at all.

She had chosen the cabin because it was situated far away from anything. It was right on the edge of a national forest that went on for miles, and had a view of a tiny little lake with no other houses nearby. It was almost like having her own, private lake just a ten minute walk from the front door. When she got to the cabin, she was a little annoyed to see that noone had been there since she had looked at it several months ago. There was dust all over everything, and a thick matt of pine needles on the front porch.

Still it gave her something to do that first afternoon, after she had unpacked, and she felt a sense of accomplishment as she sat on the porch, watching the stars come out as the night grew darker. When it finally got too dark to see, she went inside, lit a candle and got ready for bed. She climbed in the sheets in an old t shirt and a skimpy pair of silk shorts.

((... looking for: nature spirits, lost hikers, escaped cons, ghosts or anyone else that might turn up at her little cabin in the night - no vampires, no rapists, no one liners . please PM with a post that at least says who your character is and what they're doing out here...and please wait for a response before posting))

Tim Caprini had made a name for himself as of recently. He had spent most of his adult life as a criminal. CRimes ranging across a wide range from simple assault, to armed robbery, to extortion, to as of recently murder. He was just in that sort of life. A hired gun type with ambition of making himself a big shot with his own crew. Though things just never went much over being a well paid thug. He never really had any set allegiances so he was free to do whatever for whomever paid the most. Though that also meant he didn't have anyone to watch his back when things became rough.

And things had become rough. He was running through the woods in the beginning wanting to get himself as far away as possible. A stroke of luck happened while he was sitting in the back of a squad car on route to the jail. The car swerved to avoid hitting a deer running out and with control lost it hit into a tree. His door had opened and he could get out. With the officer down he undid the cuffs and soon was on the run.

He found himself in the middle of nowhere wishing he had some way to tell where he was. He though he could see some light in the distance and followed it finding a cabin. He shrugged his shoulders and thought it could be empty but he wasn't about to break into it. He stepped up onto the porch and knocked on the door. He was dressed in the jeans and shirt with a leather coat he had been arrested in. He felt lucky he wasn't in one of them orange jumpsuits. It would be harder to explain that.

He banged again on the door calling out. "Anyone here?! I could use some help" Figuring that if anyone was in the cabin they would hear him as he was certain it wasn't exactly sound proof and maybe they would be behind the door wandering if they should open it. Though if someone was in distress they may be more inclined to open it and see. He would bend his knee some to take weight from his one foot. He did have some dirt patches on him so it could look like he took a tumble.

She lay in bed, squinting as she tried to read by the light of the candle. Tomorrow, she decided, would be a good day to fill up on kerosine for the old lamps she had found in a dusty cupboard. That would mean making the drive into town again, but she wasn't quite ready to be ruled by the darkness every evening, particularly as the sunsets were coming earlier and earlier in the afternoons.

She thought the creaking was just the old cabin settling until she heard the bang. It shook the whole house, and she jumped, pulling the blankets up to her chin in sudden panic. Scenarios raced through her mind. Wild animals, wild hillbillies, serial killers and worse. Christ, part of the reason she had left the city was to get away from being scared.

The banging repeated and she jumped again, reaching for the candle to blow it out, so at least they wouldn't know exactly where she was. Just before she grabbed it, they called out.

"Anyone here?! I could use some help." The voice sounded worried, but not dangerous, and she laughed at her fears as relief swept over her. She slipped out of bed and climbed down the steep steps from the loft, holding the candle in one hand and the rail in the other.

"Sorry," she called as she flipped the latch and opened the door. "You took me by surprise."

He would then hear the sound of someone calling back out to him. It was a relief that someone was here. Well it just made things easier as he was thinking of picking his way in or breaking the door though that may look suspicious if people were lookign in the woods for him and see a door broken in. He waited patiently the few seconds it would take for the voice to open the door. He did move back a couple of steps so as not to be intimidating at all. His goal was to look like someone who was lost which wasn't a stretch since he was.

When he saw the door open and saw the woman standing there holding a candle a smile came over his face. Well now, jackpot. That was the thought in his mind as he noticed her in her sleeping ensemble. Though this wasn't the time to stare and be lost in her. He needed to come up with his next move. Time to perhaps play on her womanly instincts to care for others.

He would offer a slight smile as he nodded his head to her. "I am terribly sorry if I worried you by knocking on your door... I know you probably were looking to get away from the noise and what not... I... I am just lost... have been all day... and I was about to curl up on the ground and wait for daylight when I spotted your cabin... if it wouldn't be too much of an intrusion... I was wondering if I could rest... maybe wash up a little bit... before heading back out..."

He thought he should shoot small. Not ask about food, short term shelter, hot shower or anything like that. Just a place to rest for a few minutes. Surely she would want to do more than just allow him to do that. He didn't know her but he knew women. He definately was looking like a lost puppy out in the rain... well it wasn't raining but he felt he was giving the same affect.
