Life sucks, but death sucks more, and of late there was a whole lot of the later. Death, death, and more death. When the smoke cleared, not much was left, and what was left wasn't all that useful. Margaret was alive, when everyone she knew was dead. Then again she was surrounded by people in the same boat so to speak.

They had settled on a coastal location, plenty of fishing and wildlife. Farming well things had gotten pretty well shaken up that first year. She guided people and when time came, she was elected as mayor of Life. They had done pretty well building a communal shelter, shower house, and a medical area that first year. Old building were condemned, and so they picked a new place to build their new life, therefore the name of their town.

They were lucky to have a doctor as well as an engineer, so now heading into year two they had running water and had hooked up enough power generators for refrigeration. It had been a tough first year, and only now were people coming out of the shock of grief and survival guilt.

She was talking to the women about how to celebrate their first year anniversary. After a lot of discussion the subject of children came up. The condoms that were left were going to expire soon, and what hormonal birth control they had cobbled together was going to peter out just as soon. She'd already talked it over with the community doc who thought it was a good idea for every woman to begin a prenatal regimen. She brought that up and all agreed they would make appointments to make sure everything was working.

This brought them to the next point, men outnumbered the women by almost 3 to 1. After a lot of chatter they agreed to split up the men, each woman agreeing to having multiple sexual partners.

Margaret as the highest ranking female was given first choice, and she reluctantly picked the doctor, as far as she knew he was unattached, and waited impatiently for her turn to come again. Then she chose Chad, who was very gay and very in the closet, and would have trouble if any other woman tried to seduce him.

Then she was out, she simply didn't have the time to pursue three men, and she watched as the others made their choices. The conversation then turned to housing, currently they were housed in one large building for convenience, but with reproduction going on private sleeping structures would be a good idea.

It was decided housing would be built for women, in the mean time tents would be put into use, and the community building would eventually get converted into a daycare and school.

The next day she brought it up with the builders who agreed it was about time for individual houses and agreed that women should get housing first. She was surprised at how well it went as she headed for lunch.

She sat down by Chad and explained the changes, which considering how much flirtation was going on, would soon become obvious to all but the dimmest man. He agreed to play it straight, and she kissed him on the cheek and headed to the medical unit.

There was Doc, her other potential baby daddy so to speak. He wasn't alone, he rarely was, and she just made an appointment for her own prenatal check up, his nurse being a woman was already in the know and making time for every woman in the community to get checked out.

Margaret took one of the last times of the day, it was near impossible for her to get away from her duties during the day except for meals.

Dr. Kurt

Life was easy for Dr. Kurt Devlin even making it out of medical school and establishing a respectable medical practice. But all that is now distant in a physical and cognitive sense. The survivors of this cursed voyage are making the best of it because they gave up on being rescued. While all grieved over their serious losses, Dr. Kurt was too busy taking care of the wounded, learning the medical hazards of this new land and comforting those destined for a life shorter than expected.

Fortunately the land is arable and natural resources can sustain the survivors. That raises a question for those who have time to ponder. Why hasn't this place been populated before? No matter. They are here and now. It's time to inhabit and live off the land and sea. It's time to start fresh, establish new relationships and begin life all over again. It's time to set aside conventional morals for the purpose of keeping the population thriving and healthy. Dr. Kurt can and does his part, more easily now that he has trained two women as nurses. Wonders of modern medicine are absent but he knows enough about holistic medicine to cure some ailments and treat others.

Social life in Life is odd to say the least with a disproportionate number of men and women. However Dr. Kurt has access to women based on his profession. His appealing personality and bad manners take him further. Free from constraints of rigorous medical and professional ethics, he occasionally dabbles in intimate encounters with ladies of majority age.

He has seen various changes in this fertile land. The Community as it was previously called is progressing to more private housing. Women are blessed by the presence of 2 or 3 men in their households. By the same token they are burdened because they must tend to their sexual needs as well. The men are more satisfied and more productive in building Life. The nature of intimate relations precipitates arguments now and then and jealousy arises but eventually arbitrators settle disputes and make changes where necessary.

He glances at the sun through the window then to a clock. It's time to close the clinic but Janice, his lead nurse reminds him he has one more appointment and he can't postpone this one. The Mayor is here to see him. Monica, the other nurse brings Mayor Margaret to his private office.

"Hello Mayor," he smiles at her and opens his arms for a friendly hug. They part slowly, Nurse Janice leaves them alone and closes the door. Margaret knows why she's here, she's an adult and knows the procedure so she undresses in front of Dr. Kurt and lays down on the examination table made from bamboo and covered with padding and a cloth.

The doctor proceeds with the exam but first checks her heartbeat with the cold stethoscope, takes her pulse, checks her breathing and throat. Then he hands examine her breasts noticing her nipples harden. Slowly one of his hands slides further down, over the small hump of her belly, over the hairy bush of her venus and to her lower lips finding them moist. Her heightened excitement is obvious.

"Isn't young Chad enough for you Margaret?" He asks coyly and slowly slips a finger into her vagina to check for any abnormalities.

Enough time had passed so that relationships were settling in. Men realizing that jealousy was a good way to get sent to what was affectionately being called the "Dog House." Margaret's tent was in a prime location owing to her status, and she had shrugged it off and made sure that the permanent structure would be one of the last built.

Chad slept over once a week, and she laughed at how the women said she was lucky to have one of the youngest and therefore most virile men in her bed. Too bad he was as gay as water was wet. He was considered her lover though, and so she shouldn't have been surprised when Doc commented on it.

She knew she should have approached him before now, and a little surprised that he wasn't aware of his own position. Then again she knew a few women who had asked if she was laying restrictive claim to him. At which she laughed and said he was free to take any opportunities that presented themselves to him.

"Well we all have to make sacrifices," she was just glad last night hadn't been a Chad night or he might have commented that she looked untended to. Sacrifices, multiple husbands as a sacrifice, well considering how much pent up sexual energy finally got released since the anniversary, it was a surprise more women weren't sending men to the dog house.

It was probably why she was aroused, sleeping, and only sleeping, with young Chad beside her, as well as the increase in happiness as everyone in Life was getting busy was making her aware of the lack of sex in her own life.

"He's of age, and with any luck a virile stud," she recalled last time they had discussed if Chad wanted children and he'd blushed and said he'd happily be a dad to any child she had. She hadn't given it more thought, until now with the doctor caressing her vagina, checking her fertility.

His probing sliding exploring fingers sense no unusual growths. A peek inside her flower as far as the eyes can see reveals no discoloration or signs of infection. A primitive exam as this away from medical technology can't accurately conclude if she is fertile but can reveal obvious hindrances. None were found.

As a test of curiosity and not a medical matter, the doctor caresses her clitoris slowly, ever so slowly and gently while noticing her response.

"You're healthy dear Margaret but you can't fool me. Isn't young Chad interested in you? Seems like you're ignored." Says the doctor while standing by her side, his hand gently rubbing her naked body upwards to her breasts, her neck then stopping on her quivering lips to smear her juices on her tongue.

Just as slowly he steps back and turns to wash his hands. The clinic is a makeshift structure of a primitive nature. He isn't surprised he sees through the door crack Janice's eyes peeking in. Not is he upset. Rather he winks at her then dries his hands and returns to Margaret. Offering his hand to pull her up to a sitting position, both turn their heads and see the head nurse stepping into the examination room to start cleaning up and hinting the clinic is about to close for the day.

"Who are the other two?" asks Dr. Kurt of Margaret while gently bringing her clothes and setting them on her bare thighs. Before she has a chance to answer, Dr. Kurt tells Margaret, "Come and see me tomorrow" and leaves. Either Janice will help Margaret dress or she will be dismissed and Margaret will dress herself and leave.

The doctor has something else on his mind, food. He hasn't eaten since mid morning and finds Monica then tells her it's time to go with him so she can cook supper is his dwelling, not far from Margaret's home in this small but close community distant from the rest of the world. Both Monica and the doctor know the evening is for more than dinner and both look forward to it.

She should have known that the lack of signs of sexual activity would not go unnoticed by him. Margaret should not have been surprised by his flirtatious nature, she had been asked by far too many women about his availability. Including his nurses, which was kind of a relief for her, as it she wasn't on the hook for bedding him.

He asked about her other partners, and she had no idea what to tell him, but he left before she could answer. She dismissed the nurse, she was capable of getting dressed on her own. She knew how many has lesbian tendencies as many had offered their bodies in order to improve their situation. Margaret had been gentle in turning them down, saying she was doing the best for everyone and she would feel guilty to take advantage of them. Some continued to offer, and Margaret was reminded that she was a healthy sexual woman. A fact she forgot more and more often of late.

She grabbed something in the communal kitchen before heading to her tent. She was surprised to find Chad there, pacing like a caged lion.

"Let me speak," he was so flustered that she sat down and listened to him ramble on. Chad spoke about how feminine she was, from her sweet breasts to the curves of her hips and thighs, how she was not his type, but if he were to be with a woman it would be someone like her, and if her other lovers weren't capable he would bite the bullet and make the attempt.

Of course it took several stammering restarts, and nervous gestures to get the point across. She didn't even think about how loud he was talking or that anyone would hear them. She merely reassured him that it wasn't necessary for him to do something contrary to his desires. That there were plenty of other men. She went from feeling desirable to feeling like second hand trash in a matter of hours. She was surprised when Chad revealed who the other gay male was and sternly told her not to pick him.

She sent Chad to the dog house where men in trouble, or who didn't like sharing a bed went.
