The Coven Est. 1774

Who?

*he didnt know that name...having not set foot in the town for years upon years...he thanked his friends of time for speeding up the encroaching darkess..he spotted the familiar...which it had to be, as no animal had that sort of palable aura...immedatly it would be set at ease...for this was no mere male human...he looked her over softly, his quiet amber eyes and long brownish black hair seemed to offset his rather handsome face...he looked like a quiet woodsman, slightly muscly and a look of incredable intelligence behind his eyes...he wore what looked like a long black robe which whispered around his ankles softly, revealign slip on black shoes beneath it, he had his pockets full of herbs and other assorted odd things...and a small leather pouch with some sort of soft stuff in it....he had reached into his robes but stopped when she asked he was doing..and he pulled his hand out and smiled a little crookedly..obviously not used to dealing with people*

I am...er..
*he looked thoughtful for a moment*

Hold a tick...ah right right...I am Shawn Williams...Scholar, Alchemist and Procurer of Magickal oddities of every sort.

*he gave a small, stiff bow*
I am unfamiliar with your name miss...I very very rarely venture into the village...

Katy

She eyed him, wondering who he was.
"Well nice to meet you Mr. Williams.." She stepped just a little closer. She couldnt make out much now that the sun had set behind the mountains. He looked large to her, very tall and broad.
"You live in the woods all alone? And never go into town? Funny, but I dont recall hearing anything about a recluse. But i am sure you have your reasons." She smiled a little, trying to be friendly but not to friendly. Strangers made her nervous.

She paused when she heard him exclaim "Scholar, Alchemist and Procurer of Magickal oddities of every sort. "

Oddities? did she dare ask him what he meant by that? She wasnt to sure, he could be dangerous. She knew the spell to change Thomas, if she needed help. but then mr Williams would know she was a witch. that she couldnt let happen. He may not go into town, but word would still spread.

"Well most people call me Katy, not Katherine. And my parents and I just moved here this year. So you might not know of my family. perhaps you know John?? He is our farm hand? He grew up here in this town." She kept conversation light, her tone of voice friendly. And her eyes watchful.

Thomas the Familiar

He jumped. He'd heard that pronounciation. It was with a 'k', he could tell. The way the sound had hardened when he'd said it. He said he was a scholar, and all scholars knew how to enunciate.

The only times that magic was spelled in that way was when refering to two schools of magic. The one based on Religion, and the one based on Science. He'd also said he was an Alchemist, which hinted at a Science based school. But there were many in that genre.

Thomas's fur turned back to the inky black he was born with. The ones based on Religion were bad business. And the one's based on science sometimes had practicioners that wanted to preform 'experiments'. The cat hissed, it's back arching and its fur raising on end.

No he had serious doubts about this person...

Katy

She heard Thomas hiss and growl. Her brow furrowed with worry.
What is it Thomas? Whats wrong?

She felt edgy all of the sudden, a little frightened. She leaned down and picked him up. Holding him to her chest. She wondered if she was feeling what Thomas felt at this moment, or if she was just being silly.

*he blinked and gave a half grin, his soft mellifluous voice carried across the distance between them*

You havent heard of me because I am not spoken of often...and I dont know anyone in the town...never have. I get my supplies direct from the wonders of nature...

*he sighed softly in delight, it was good to hold semi-intelligent conversation for someone....he spotted the familiars reaction, and knew almost immediately what was wrong, he had hedged again with his self descriptions. he sighed and scratched his heads softly and embarressedly*

Your familiar doesnt seem to like me very much. Understandable, I have a few oddities about me.

*he sort of blinked*

Did I just say that out loud?

Katy

She tensed up, and felt her heart leap into her throat. He said Familiar! oh god, now what? think fast katy!!

"Pardon? My what?" She could pretend to not understand, and hope to god he wouldnt see through her lie. She gripped Thomas to her.. What was she going to do now? Why did he call Thomas a Familiar? how could he know? Her mind raced over her thoughts trying to find a way to fix this and fast.

"You... said something out loud...Were you talking about Thomas? My Cat?" She held her breath, wondering what to do.

*He chortled*

No need to be afraid m'dear...I wont hurt you...yes I know it is a familiar. I have a certain eye for such things....

*he winked broadly at her*

Would you like to visit my cabin? I could explain further...I just dont like speaking of such things in...the open..

*he had shifty eyes all about him, as if suspicious of the very flowers*

Katy

She eyed him, even sensed his playfulness. She wondered if she could trust him? He seemed nice and polite. She debated for a few minutes to herself. And finally nodded her head. realizing he might not have seen that she replied "alright for a few minutes at least, and I hope you dont mind if Thomas comes inside.. I dont go anywhere without him..."

She put her bag on her shoulder and carried Thomas with her. She slowly approached him, up close he was alot larger than she thought. Lifting her eyes up she met his. He didnt look old, but his eyes did. She stopped a few feet from him.
"Lead the way.. and why are you weary of speaking in the open?" She was very curious at his behavior. She didnt mention Familiar, she was not about to admit anything to Mr Williams.

"do you live alone Mr Williams?" She was wondering at her rational frame of mind. If she went alone with him to his house, and was found out. There would be hell to pay. Young single Ladies did not go off with strangers, nor enter their homes without a chaperone.. and certainly didnt engage in activities she did with Thomas. She shrugged slightly.. So much for being a Lady.

*He motioned to her without saying anything...leading her to a quaint little cabin (see former posts for good description, just look for it slightly early on and you should find it..) opening the beautifully carven doors...and leading into the small hallway, with unseen devices he lit every candle in the hallway, then led the way into a large dusty study...where a fire crackled merrily in the fireplace..piles of old tomes were against every wall, up to the very ceiling, gold and silver cracked titles on every one...he lit the candle on his desk and gestured for her to sit on one of the large pouf chairs, which were big round deals that were exceedingly comfortable and cushoned with soft wool inside..he smiled to her*

Can I get you anything?

*he obviously didnt mind thomas, then rolled his eyes8

Where are my manners. Can I get -either- of you anything?

and Yes I do live alone...I always have..

*he sounded somewhat sad at that statement and gave a small smile*

I am wary of the open for the same reasons you are.

Katy

She sat in the chair and smiled.
"Would you have a glass of water perhaps? I think Thomas is fine, he hasnt said err umm well wanted much so far." She slowly stroked Thomas's fur, to keep him calmed down. He didnt take his eyes off of Shawn for a moment.

"So I can safely say you've guessed what I am now?" She didnt offer any more information, instead she let her eyes roam around the room. It was homey and comfortable. And alot of books scattered here and there.

"Do you like being alone?" She seen the sadness in his eyes when he spoke, she was curious as why he was here alone. It wasnt like he was ugly or anything. Far from it, So why was this man single? She didnt pry, at least not yet. Her green eyes went back to his. She had seen him light the candles as he walked. She wondered if he used magic to do this, or if something else lit his way. The house was beautiful, she reminded herself later to ask who built it.

Of course...Say...Have you ever had proper wine?

*he knew she couldnt have, But he would ask anyway...he walked over to a silver pitcher..and poured a large glass of water..the glass was large and easy to hold, much like a goblet of some sort....he walked about, as if searching for somthing, then he snapped his own fingers before his eyes*

Im sorry. I was lost in my thoughts for a moment. Yes I have every reason to believe you are a witch or Wicca of some sort. Obviously recently learned, otherwise you would know my...ah..reputation...

*he chuckled softly and shook his head*

Some of your kind seem to think a male scholar and practicer of Magic, Majick, and other such conundrums is wrong. Ah well. Sei La Vi.

*He waved his hand airily*

Well...

*he paused at her question of liking to be alone...and sighed*

No. But I have little choice. I am afraid my persuit of knowledge leaves little leasure time..

Katy

She accepted the glass, and took a long drink.
"thank you" She leaned back and kept her eyes on him.

"Now what makes you think i am a witch? Seen me on a broom late at night?" She smiled at her own joke.

She set her glass against her leg.
Drink if you want Thomas

"So because of your extensive studies you do not have time to socialize with females.. interesting. And I would imagine a man with great wisdom and learning would find it easy to make a lady fall in love with him..."
She leaned forward once more "after all dont you know, from your reading, what a woman wants?"

She sipped her drink, then replied about the wine.
"I have never drank spirits before. I was told it is the fastest way to damnation. Of course our Pastor is a little .."
She made a crazy motion next to her head

"up stairs..."

"Do forgive me for prying, I hear the same lecture from my parents so often, about getting married, that I think i slipped into one of their frames of mind. Very narrow minded if you ask me too."

How do I know you are a witch?

Why...Elementary my Dear Katherine.

*he pointed softly towards her*

First off, a Familiar is a dead giveaway for a witch. Second, I noted the heavyness of your sack, Betraying the obviousness of some tome of sufficent learning. Thirdly you were obviously flustered when I mentioned the word familiar, Fourthly most girls your age are quite biddable and not very independant, nor are black cats well kept amongst most superstitious communities, Finally, though I did not need it, you have the aura of one, as well as the demenor, After all. What good little chrisitan girl would be out in the middle of the forest at such an hour?

*he spoke in such a mocking tone it was hilarious...his voice varied in tones and forms, one moment soft, the next harsh and steely. It was amazing how his voice ranged from the highest soprano to the lowest bass..*

Really...I am under the impression that every Priest is insane to believe in such poppycock and tripe about -god- and the world being flat and all that nonsense..

*he waved his hand airly once more and sighed*

Despite my extensive studies on the matter of women, I have found that By extreme mistake I often give them Inferiority complexes, causing tension and, more often than not, rejection.

*he chuckled*
Thats all parents are intrested in these days...making certain they have thier little tickets to heaven....Heaven and hell, good and evil. Poppycock, Tripe and piffle I say!

Katy

" well sherlock, Very good at reading people arent you?" She mocked him the same way he mocked her. her eye brow quircked up, her eyes speaking volumes of her inner thoughts.

"and i can say i am not yet a witch, but merely a witch in training.. I havent even begun to learn all the is required of me."

She sipped her water, thoughtful of what he knew, and just what she had to do to keep him silent. If he spoke to anyone at all that is..

"As for my bag, it contains some herbs, a book and gardening tools. Nothing to interesting to you i am sure."

She stood up and set Thomas on the vacated seat. Slowly she approached the book shelves, reading title after title of interesting books.

"So.. since i am out after dark already, and probably in trouble for it too, What shall we do to occupy our time here?"

She didnt know if she just leave or continue to converse with him.

ooc; Holmes wasnt published in london ontil the 1900's. *eg* He is just quite mindful of the future. *chuckle*

IC:

Ahh but that is not true...You -do- have a book of some sufficent wieght in there, and I would be -most- intrested in -that-..any book I do not have I am intrested in, and intrested in procuring eventually.

And yes, I am very good at reading people. Psychology, a school of learning forgotten scince The great scholars of Rome and Greece, is somthing I specialize in sometimes.

*he shrugged quietly*

Well...I Rarely sleep...I could show you some of my more amusing tomes...Prehaps introduce you to the fine world of wines...unless you had somthing a tad more physical in mind?

*He spoke it so casually, offhandedly, one would not notice he was, in fact, a virgin, Having never been liked by women his entire life..*

Katy

She turned her head from the book case and looked at him. She knew he was older than her, probably wiser too.

"This book I have is not for sale, never will be, Sorry but It will remain with me til I die."

She walked over from the book case nearer to him.

"Physical huh?" She got really brave and stepped even closer to look up into his eyes.

"You barely know me.. and I barely know you.. How could you think I would be thinking something like that?"

She stepped closer again, a slight smile playing in her lips. She was playing with fire, she was sure of it. But she couldnt stop the evil little voice in her head from taunting.

"Are you attracted to me Mr Williams?"

She stepped away, giving him space.

"What tomes do you have to show me?"

*He chuckled...and waved a warning finger*

Death is a very easy thing to arrange...so please, dont tempt my morbidity.
*he grinned quietly..*

You could call it my intuiton. But it has failed me before. Ah well.

*he chuckled, and stood, striding over to a wall and looking up and down several stacks of books*

For the first question. Yes I do, you are quite lovely...

Secondly, I am looking for a particular one that came to mind just now..

Katy

She followed him to the bookcase, looking at the titles.

"Well I guess I should say thank you for the nice compliment, but is it a compliment or a way to get me in your bed?" She grinned. She did love being upfront and sometimes she loved word games.

"Which tomb are you looking for? Maybe i can help you locate it?"

Her eyes roamed over the titles, there were so many on so many different subjects. She wasnt sure what he wanted to show her.
She stepped back from him a few paces, Being too close to him might get her into trouble.

"Another thing, I dont understand why you dont have a wife or a mistress.." She stopped speaking. She was not going to tell him how good he looked, he might get the wrong idea. And she didnt know him well enough to get to personal. When his back was to her, her eyes roamed up and down his body. He was nicely built, good looking face, and smart to boot. It just did not make sense to her in the least.

The word is Tome. It's easy to find...The title is Princapia Technologica....it ought to stand out scince it is massive....Just never am able to keep track of it...confound it all.

*he blinked at her very forward statmet*

It is a Compliment. I would not even begin to think of involving myself in such a lecherous persuit.

*he sighed*

As I said, Very few females can stand my love for knowledge...or my other strange traits...Well...It is their loss I always say...

Katy

"I see.. so I am safe here then." She smiled and looked at the titles.
"Well i dont see it anywhere. whats in this tome anyways?"

She knew she was pushing her welcome, it was amusing though. And she hadnt been amused in awhile.

"and just for the sake of knowing, as long as I dont do anything improper, you wont pursuit me?"

She giggled a little, and walked back to her cup. picking it up for another sip of water.

She looked at her bag, inside was the book. She wondered if she should show it to him or not.

She decided to play a little, see what would happen. She closed her eyes, her back to Shawn. Carefully she focused her attention. her palms slowly raised out to her sides. Her palms once again heating up. She said the words softly.

Wind Howl
Wind Blow
Wind come to me
As I comand thee
softly blow over me

Softly the wind moved over her, pressing her skirts to her legs, and whipping her hair back from her face. her bun had come out and her hair now cascaded down her back. The candle light flickered and went out. Quickly she made it stop.

Wind decease
No longer blow
Take thee away
As I command it
Let it be so

She smiled and put her hands down to her sides. It was now dark inside the den. She felt the tingling sensation from casting, but pushed it into the back of her mind. She would but remain a minute more. She hoped Thomas wasnt agitated.

*He was watching her intently*

Hmm...Standard Elemental summon spell..First level of difficulty...You intend to be a witch of words? intresting.

*he sort of grinned*

Oh sorry...I found the book..

*And indeed. It was massive. It seemed to take up his entire front*

Oh a few concoctions of intrest...

*he grinned sultrily, and gave her a very intrested look*

Am I bothering you??? or am I just too strange?

Thomas the Familiar

Thomas was not pleased at the turn of events. The sun was setting-and here she was....He shook himself. His mistress's private affairs were not his business as long as she did not harm herself. He still did not trust the man, though.

He could tell the level of the spell his mistress had used, even though it came from a different school of magic. The man was, at least, a warlock-and stole the powers of witches. At most, he was a sorcerer, and would know spells from multiple schools of magic. He was definitely smart enough to know such thing.

The black cat padded over, and checked the tomes of books. On and on....so many. He checked the titles. Nothing too incriminating. Some books of magic, but nothing from any of the schools that Thomas should be scared seeing in possession of this man.

The familiar looked out the window. The last dying rays of the sun were begining to disappear. He gave a last rub to his mistress's legs, and walked over to the door. He glared at it, then turned. They didn't care. They were too involved in what they were doing. He sprang upwards, and after some work, managed to open the door. Once outside, he managed to push the door closed again. The sun was disappearing. He padded off into the forest to change.

OOC: Yeah, and let's not forget that in the 1400's we found out the world was round. I'll never know why some people try to do threads in olden times, and then drop all sense of historicial accuracy. Even religion adopted the fact the world was sphericial by this point.

Katy

She turned around and noticed the book, And that Thomas was gone. She turned and looked out the window.

"Oh no! ive got to go mr Williams. It was nice meeting you, perhaps another time?"

She grabbed her satchel and ran outside.
Thomas? Where are you?

She had to get Thomas to the cave. She headed there. Calling out for Thomas as she went. She should have recalled that he changed when the sun set. She felt horrible for forgetting her Familiar.
I am so sorry Thomas..

She got to the cave. No one was there. Katy went in and sat in the darkness of the cave. Hoping he would show up. She had to go home soon, but she wouldnt leave Thomas out here alone.

Thomas the Familiar

He quickly ran into the woods, and settled down in a clearing. After a few minutes, the change started, and stopped. It was then he heard his mistress begin to call. He stood up, and stretched his human body.

Walking along through the forest, he began to head towards the sound of her voice. She kept moving, causing him to reangle himself at every call, and slowing him down. After a while, she stopped moving.

The cave. He walked inside the darkness of the cave, and sat down next to Katy. "Hello mistress."

Katy

She nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard someone coming. She sat silently, then realized it was Thomas. He came in and sat down next to her on the cold ground.

She looked down into the inky blackness.. She felt really bad.
"Im sorry Thomas.. I did not mean to forget you or the time. Am I forgiven?" She usually was never so selfish. Something about that man rubbed her wrong, maybe it was because he was smarter than her, He had his freedom, and He knew her secrets without being told.

"Will the change spell make you into a cat again? So I can get you inside the house? I have to go home, but I wont leave you out here alone. especially in the cold. Tomorrow Thomas, I have got to find you some breeches."

She laid her head on his shoulder, she was a little sleepy, but not enough to sleep.

"I could run home, and open my window also."

She had to find a way to move around freely in this world. The only way to do that was either be married or her parents died. And she wouldnt kill her parents, and she did not want to be married! Maybe something would come up.
