Maria
For a brief moment, Maria froze, hoping that everything would somehow continue on without anyone noticing. No luck. The lights came on and Mrs. Thompson was looking up at the back row… specifically, at Maria. The sudden brightness dazzled her, and she couldn't see.
Maria scrambled to her feet, doing her best to not annoy whoever it was she'd fallen into as she'd tripped over the cord. She opened her mouth once, smiled, glanced about the room. Mrs. Thompson looked up at her over the top of her glasses. "Well then. It seems that Miss Lauren is done with her object lesson on why it's important to get to class on time, so why don't we see about continuing the lesson the rest of you came here to learn, hmm?" One final acid glance up to Maria, and then Mrs. Thompson nodded once to one of her aides who had just reset the projector up on the table. The lights dimmed and the projector, having miraculously survived the fall, flashed into life.
Maria slumped down in the chair, trying to shrink into it, to vanish. After a few moments, she glanced over at the guy in the next seat over, the one she'd practically sat on when she'd tripped.
It was Rick.
'Oh… umm… Hi there. Uh… I'm sorry about that…" she whispered awkwardly to him.
