“Mmm, yes, Rikki. Continue.” She worked the knots out of his tired muscles with her delicate fingers, while he scribbled in his tomes. Suddenly, he slammed shut the book he was working in. “It’s a modified portal spell, too! Then they work together instead of against each other!” While Rikki kept rubbing his shoulders, he reached across the table for a thin silver bracelet and a ring that matched. Drawing glowing runes on the air with his enchantment gem, he pushed energy through the runic array into the formerly mundane jewelry.
It took several minutes, with Claudio tense and straining the whole time. Rikki’s soothing touch made it the least taxing enchantment he’d ever done. Finally, the runes faded, the silver taking on a dim glow that, itself, would fade with time. Claudio picked the two pieces up and handed them to Rikki. “Keep these safe. We’ll use them tonight.”
After she took them, he stood and reached out to put his hand on the back of her neck, pulling her in for a rough, demanding kiss. He took his time, only letting her up for air when she seemed to need it. “You’ve helped immensely, Rikki. Let’s go to lunch.”
