The dawn of military and law enforcement robitics: Droid armies.

Yes they drive through my neighborhood all the time. When I'm out walking I make I make a point of fucking with them--tricking them into doing 3-point turns in the middle of the street--stuff like that.

Oh good. You’re making them smarter. You may want to keep in mind that if they have a passenger and you are intentionally interfering with it you could be committing a crime.

Then you aren’t doing much to mess with it.

Keep in mind that it records everything happening around it.
It such a novelty to see a driverless car on the road I like to study it up close. For example standing directly in front of it to get a better look.

I mess with drivers too if they don't properly yield right of way. If you pull into the crosswalk, I'll walk really slowly as I cross in front of you.

Are we engineering Armageddon?

“AI’s often use deception to improve results”

“…deceptive behavior increases with AI capabilities.”

“Two $500 drones recently destroyed an Abrams tank.”

Another note from the video above is that although several countries are interested in regulating AI for safety concerns, none have been willing to limit military AI capabilities.

You’re kind of an asshole then, aren’t you?

China vs Taiwan

It’s either going to be a capitulation or a showcase of technology.

I prefer "abusive little bitch".

I assume every car is trying to run me down. When drivers stop being such assholes I'll be nicer.

Mutually assured destruction.

The AI is self learning. If you make yourself notable it will take note of you - personally. It will pay attention to where you are and avoid going places where you are.

Or it may know that you’re the one behind one of it’s unoccupied vehicles and it will interfere with you to benefit its customers riding in other vehicles. 🤷‍♀️

Eventually, they're going to come up with an onboard machine that can convert human flesh into fuel.

Training AIs to be scared of me is something to aspire to.

Human drivers are more careful when they see a pedestrian carrying a brick.

Do you have a point or are you as worthwhile as Chad?
My point is that all the hand-wringing about the dangers of AI is just marketing hype to get funding.

Human-piloted drones are a significant new miliary technology.

A lot of these pitches conflate human-piloted drones with autonomous vehicles. Autonomous cars can follow the rules of the road when everyone around them does too, but they're easily tricked and confused. Sometimes AVs confuse each other and get wedged into little packs.

Big Dog is cool, but again, it's not autonomous. It's just a really expensive wagon.

The only real danger AI presents is technological unemployment.
Not because the AI can actually do the job better or cheaper than a human, but just because clueless tech managers are always eager to jump on the Next Big Thing no matter how broken it is.

We saw this with VR. We saw this with NFTs. Everyone wants to get in on the ground floor of the next dot com boom, so they throw stupid amounts of money at mirages.

Because of the enormous risk of missing the Next Big Thing. Imagine the fate of a management in the 1980s that decided computers were only a passing fad.

AI is not just some geek’s hobby, it’s a real Darwinian arms race.

AI can drive cars. It can fly planes. It can track and shoot down incoming missiles. It can identify every person who goes to the superbowl using facial recognition. It can self-learn faster than humans can train it and it’s quickly getting faster.

If you want to embrace ignorance to stay in some sort of happy place, that’s on you.

Meanwhile, back in reality, the arms race aspect of this is driving China, the country that already has the world’s largest standing military, to heavily invest in the technology.

How are you missing this? 🤔

AI cannot competently take over a person's entire workflow, yet. But AI is more efficient and produces better quality work in many task instances. Technological unemployment due to AI is already a very real phenomenon.

VR is a very real consumer technology. Tens of millions of people use it, and it's a rapidly growing market.
