The Dragon Wars

Pyrymis

Pyrymis lead the flight of dragons, his bold leadership giving heart to those that were unsure of the wisdom of this move. He winged into the city from the North, settling the brood in a field a mile away to give last minute instructions.

"Ok, Devron and Selvin - you two approach from the West and keep an eye on that section of the city. Bafrog and Haldram - you approach from the South and keep on the south gate. Gwethal and Kragak - you approach from the East and keep an eye on your section. Plengand and Yvestrax - you are to stay here in reserve in case we need you . I dont want to reveal my full strength yet. I will approach from the north with Jafuil and Rasweld , continuing on to the City council to see if they met our demands. Any Questions?"

The other dragons were silent, nodding their heads in ascent to his wishes. Pyrymis jumps up into the air, taking wing and approaching the city. He gets to the city square and looks towards the Council building . He sees a lone man surrounded by a huge mound of gold and gems. Pyrymis is happy to see that they complied with his wishes, maybe he would let some of these lesser beings live after all.

"He did WHAT??!!??"
The golden dragon told him again the story, as he heard from a friend of a friend of a cousin who was supposedly hiding in the bushes.
"Tore the entire place to the ground, he did. Hundreds of people eaten, and then he took all of their money, and left. Lots of people saw him, this will definitely force the council to do something."
Rune shook his head, yes, but was it what was needed right now?
He moved away from the groundlings, (baby dragons, under 500 years old... hee hee, I just made that up) and into some of the more stretched out caverns.
What would they do now?
Before this, there was nothing but speculation on the human's part. Now though, proof, an entire city demolished...
Pyramis, with this one stunt, had completely undermined what the dragon council had been trying to do for the last thousand years.
The humans knew, or would know soon. How fast did it take to travel up here? A couple of hours? Down there, half of the country should know by now.
The humans will think that the dragons have just declared war on them.
Well, one way, or another, Pyramis had gotten the attention of everyone.
He asked the question again, not sure of the answer...
What would they do now?

Pyrymis

Pyrymis studies the lone man on the stairs to the council building. He tries to project fear at this man, but to no avail. This man must be more than he seems. Pyrymis motions for the two dragons with him to proceed him to the square. His escorts land within a dragonlength of the council building, Pyrymis a few dragonlengths further away.

Pyrymis raises his voice to a bellow that can be heard throughout the city. "Ah, so you have done as I instructed you. You brought me all of your gold and gems. Very well, I will not totally decimate this city. Witness the providence that your alacrity to my wishes has brought you, I will not willfully kill any innocents today. Who are you strange man, I have not seen you in this city before?"

Zyzzx

A raor came thundering from the hall. I looked in had the council been insulted again. All the dragons were panicing save the council, who were already debateing over something. "Fin? Whats going on?"

..ten minutes latter..

"That's very bad the entire reason I returned was to prevent a war." We have to do something or no race will survive. Humans fear what they don't understand, the trait is born into them and has saved many a human, but at the same time it has created countless victims.

"The elves... maybe the elves.... no not just the elves but the other races too." Yes they can be saved. A war with the humans seems unstopable, but a good impresion on the others could save us many battles. "If we apraoch the other races with peace maybe the humans will be the only war on hand."

Mysterious Man

The robed man looked silently over the three dragons, first the two in front, and then the one who had spoken. He had to be the leader.
They were huge - perhaps bigger than the stories told - and the leader was as black as night. A formiddable sight indeed. He could feel the black dragon spreading its powers towards him, but his mind would not be broken that easily.
"Your mercy astounds me, great one. I would have guessed one with your power would be without such a fine thing as that. You may call me Zalemar, dragon. I am the ruler of these fine lands. As you will no doubt have worked out by now, I am slightly... angered by your attack." There was a moment of pause as Zalemar let his words sink in.
"But I must admit... your skill is legendary. Never have I seen such destruction at a whim... never from another than my own hand, that is. I respect you, dragon, and so I will spare you a while longer. But I must show you that your threats and demands will not go unpunished."
And with that, Zalemar gestured once with his hand, and the entire pile of gold and gems burst into a multi-coloured ooze which seeped into the ground and dissapeared within moments.
"We shall meet again on the field of battle, dragon." Zalemar concluded. The startled look in the mighty dragon's eyes brought an evil grin to the sorceror's lips, just before the mirror image faded, and where a moment ago had been a man and a pile of treasures there was nothing.

Lheyklanth

Lheyklanth screamed down on the first dragon. He had taken them by surprise, and so they had barely had a moment to take flight before he was upon him.
The first one he struck was Yvestrax; a fine dragon when he had been in the colony, one of the strongest reds and most promising warriors. But Lheyklanth had the advantage of momentum, and within moments of the the two dragons locking bodies they had crashed into the ground, Oldwing on top. With a mighty bellow, the grey dragon bit violently at Yvestrax's face, his mighty teeth puncturing the red's tough skin. The taste of blood strengthened Lheyklanth as he flew further into a rage, and as the red weakened its defence, Lheyklanth pounced on its throat, his teeth sinking in deep and stopping Yve's pained screams before they came out of his mouth.
Lheyklanth then turned to see the second dragon, Plengand, a large golden, pause momentarily at the sight of his allie's death.
"Plengand! My fight is not with you! I will allow you to fly away, but this will be your last chance!" Lheyklanth yelled. The younger dragon seemed to contemplate this for a moment, before it turned and flew away gracefully.
The gold dragons' attitude of self-survival did have advantages, then, Lheyklanth thought as he slowly made his way back into the sky. His old eyes looked upon the fallen form of Yvestrax with a tinge of remorse, before they turned back to the destroyed city, where his answers might be.
If there were any other dragons near, they would have noticed the short combat, no doubt.

Pyrymis

Pyrymis listens to the sheer arrogance on the part of the human. This braggart is about to become a dragon appetizer. Pyrymis pulls in his breath in preparation of unleashing his acid breath, when with a final word, the man and the treasure dissappears. Pyrymis almost chokes on his own acid as he turns disbelieving eyes to and fro to find the human.

Obviously this is a human of no small power. I will have to be careful, but they have angered me with these petty tricks. It is time to level this city.

Pyrymis signals the dragons with him and releases a stream of acid at the counsil building. Under a siege of highly corrosive acid, the marble columns collapse, driving the front of the building into the packed dirt of the square. Pyrymis lashes his tail to bring down the rest of the building. His fellow start their own swathe of destruction, using there large bodies to smash neighboring buildings.

Devron and Selvin

Both Devron and Selvin heard the bellow of draconian anger emanating from the field where they had landed. Being the closest dragons, Devron agreed to go investigate the noise. Then they both heard the death scream of a dragon. What could have caused that, they both thought. Then , a golden streak better known as Plengand , flies by them at a high rate of speed. Devron tells Selvin to come with him, he may need his help.

The two dragons abandon their post at the west gate. Flying to the source of the noises, both dragons are on edge. They do not know what to expect. Then they see what is left of Yvestrax , left cracked and bleeding on the ground. They barely have time to turn before a grey streak is upon them.

fin relunctendly agreed with what zyzzx,''but still.....i dont want my friends to die thats why i put them into hiding''fin turned to where the bickering dragons were''he looks like you pissed them off as much as i did!''

Lheyklanth

Lheyklanth felled the first dragon with a spine-tingling snap, turning to face Selvin even as Devron plummeted groundwards. Selvin made an angrey cry, before descending on the momentarily defenceless Lheyklanth. The younger dragon's craw ripped a painful wound in Lheyklanth's hide. The grey dragon screamed in pain, before he struck down with his head, hitting the surprised dragon under him. They were now disengaged, and both winged in the opposite direction, before turning to make an attacking pass. The two dragons screamed closer with deafening battle cries, before Lheyklanth ducks under a swing from Selvin's claw, the old grey's teeth sinking into the other dragon's wing. Selvin made a terrified scream as Lheyklanth came away with a mouthful of flesh and scales, leaving a gaping hole in Selvin's wing. The wounded dragon tried desperately to control its movement, but could not avoid Lheyklanth's next strike, the older dragon wheeling upwards and striking at Selvin's exposed back. The huge force behind the collision, combined with Selvin's wound, sent the younger dragon downwards, striking the floor with a deafening thump, right next to the other dragon. Satisfied that his enemies were defeated, Lheyklanth lowered himself down slowly, landing with a gentle thump. He then turned his attention to his wound, summoning up the magic from inside himself to close the open wound.

Zyzzx

"I try." Hell in reality that was the last thing I tried to do. "Maybe I should propose this to the council." 'You think the'll listen this time?' "Who knows in my last speech I even got the White dragon mad. They might see the point in it but not if I present the idea. Hey isn't that Brogradrigumdrandian over there."

'What dose Brogradrigumdrandian have to do with it. He's a black dragon I doubt he'll see our point.' "Oh no It's just I haven't seen Brogradrigumdrandian in ten years. Ten years not all that long to us. Still liveing with the Humans ten years seemed pretty long."

'I guess your right most of the children I play with aren't even that old.' "Why Fin, have you developed a reckless side." Ten years earlier he tried to stop me from leaveing. He figured I would never be allowed to return and that I would be banished like Pyrymis. Pyrymis such a funny thing.

"You know if the secet existance of us dragons came out and Pyrymis hadn't attacked. We would of been blamed." 'Ya well what would they have done to stop us?' "I don't know maybe force us to be in our caves by a certin time." 'Now what good would that do?' "Who knows. What would they call it?" 'Probably some made up word like curfue.'

It had bee quite a while sense I last chated with fin like this. It was quite refreshing. So care free not like the paranoya I had around the humans.

Yang

Yang saw Oldwing spread his enormous wings and fly off to the village that had just been attacked. Yang retreated back deep into the crevice of the Council hall. Once back out into the open, he squinted at the black spot in the horizon, and made the decision to follow. He spread his wings and jumped off the ledge. The warm currents rising from the ground began to lift him up rather than plummeting to the ground. With the a few easy flaps of his wings, his tail providing steerage, Yang soon had the dark spot in front of him.

The dark spot soon encountered two kinsman. But it was a brief encounter, as Yang saw the one dragon plummet to the ground, and the other just becoming an ever distant speck in the sky. Yang shook his head at the idiocy that caused the life of another dragon. Two more were heading towards Oldwing, but it seemed that he had gotten the two newcomers well in hand. Yang continued onwards to the town. Circling high above the clouds, Yang surveyed the destruction that the huge Black was inflicting on the town. With an easy swipe of the Black’s tail, the town Council Hall became a memory.

Yang bunched himself up, pulled his wings closer to his body, and dived towards the earth, aiming for the Black. In his mouth, he had begun to mix the naphthalene and saliva together. Yang’s father taught him this trick. By mixing his gooey saliva with the naphthalene mixture, Yang could actually ball up the flames, instead of just spreading it like a flame-thrower. He curled his lips as he dived, the wind flowing at a high speed through his teeth made an eerie wail. When the mixture was completed, Yang ignited the fireball, and spit it out. Now, using his tail to steer only, the fireball and Yang nose-dived straight into the fray, with the wail just in front of the two.

The buildings loomed ever larger, and so was the Black. At the last possible second, Yang spread out his wings and twisted them downwards. Acting like airfoils and brakes, Yang avoided kissing the earth. His neck was spraining to keep from getting snapped by the force of change in direction. As he swooped up again, Yang began to see spots in his eyes. His muscles and wings were screaming in pain.

Yang did not know whether the fireball hit the Black or not. He was concentrating on getting enough height to try again.

Lheyklanth

Satisfied that the wound would give him no more trouble, Lheyklanth took to the air, making in the direction of the town. He had seen the arrival of the newcomer, but still had not gotten a clear enough view of who it was. Someone who had followed him from the Colony, no doubt. But who would be so stupid?
"Damn it, fool... this ruins everything..." he thought as he flew closer and closer, his main concern now the safety of this new dragon rather than the search for Pyrymis.

Pyrymis

Pyrymis was too busy concetrating on the destruction of the city to notice at first the strange goings on. Then he saw a streak in the sky as a dragon flew away from the city. What is happening to my well laid plans? What is going on here? He turns to survey the city when he sees something out of the corner of his eye. He sees a dragon flying directly at him, as if that was not bad enough a fireball was flying at him. A fireball, how in the hell did this dragon do that?

Pyrymis makes a dive to the right, pushing Rasweld into the path of the fireball. The fireball hits the dragon on its delicate wings, setting them ablaze in a blink of an eye. Pyrymis sees the extreme pain that his friend is now in, and mercifully ends its life by slitting Raswelds throat with his claw. Pyrymis looks up and sees no other fireball forthcoming. He roars his defiance and takes to the air to find the source of that fireball.

"You all saw what happened in there today," Rune said, leaning against a far rock. They had all gathered in a small cavern, deep within the mountain. Many eyes on him now, as he spoke the truth.
He had heard many rumors, and talked with a few dragons there before calling this meeting in order.
"You see what he did? He got two little groundlings to push his case for him. He's asking for the advice of children in a matter of utmost importance for our clan... for our very existance."
He scratched his own wing, temporarily, shaking of a bit of dust as he did.
"Now, I know at some time or another, we have not all agreed with Oldwing, but even this draws the line, now he goes out and shows himself, in broad daylight to the creatures? He seals our own fate for us? Is this the act of a leader?"
He could now hear hushed breath. Silence filled the room, impregnating it with questions, curiousity.
"There is no choice," says one of the black elders, "We must call for the dismissal of Oldwing."
A couple of blacks agreed.
"Red? You have always been on Black's side. Do you wish to fight for our survival, or die? If Oldwing continues this way, that is what will surely happen, our own deaths."
The red dragon nodded his head, fire dwelling in his eyes.
"Perfect. Gold? I know you fear for your own selves more than anything else. At least this way, you are given the freedom to make your own choice. If Oldwing asks for war, you will be the first to be slaughtered..."
So, it was a partial lie, most great leaders couldn't disclose the entire truth to his troops. How could he stay in power for so long?
With some reluctance, the golden member agreed.
"Excellent, then the rebellion has begun. I want nothing said quite yet though, first, I need to talk to a few more group leaders. Green inparticularly, and then blue. I know white will never agree with us, but if I can convince blue that this would be the wisest choice, then we might just have a chance. We can overthrow this oligarchy, and then make our own decisions, and the wisest will be the ones to speak, not silly children."
There was a bit of a roar, and a thunder of wings flapping up into the air, the dragon sign of clapping. Rune calmed them, and sent them on his way.
"Tell your closest allies, but no one else. I want to keep this secret as long as possible."
He moved up through a large tunnel, there was some manipulating to be done.

Yang

Suddenly the sun was in Yang’s eyes. Momentarily blinded, he flapped with wings with added fervor, gaining the height that he needed. Soon, he was in the clouds. The cool wet droplets flowing on his wings. The tips soon had condensate trails behind them. But Yang was too busy to notice that he was leaving a trail.

He veered off to the right, stabilized his tail and soared amongst the clouds, his vision returning to normal. His eyes strained to see the damage that the Black had visited upon the innocent town. Now we will have a war we don’t want, fighting against the very people who look upon us as legends, silently mused Yang. But no matter for the moment, Yang focused his thoughts on the remaining dragons in the town square as he glided into position again. His mouth was beginning to taste the sweet naphthalene created by his liver.

Yang was so busy concentrating on getting into position for the next dive that he was oblivious of a black speck rising up from the ground in pursuit of the source of irritation.

Pyrymis

Pyrymis examines the sky looking for the dragon that had attacked, but did not see one. Then he saw a gap in the clouds that might mean something. As he got closer, he was able to discern a trail as to where the dragon had gone. Pyrymis sped up his wing strokes to catch up with this dragon.

Lheyklanth

Lheyklanth reared in front of Yang, who hurriedly slowed and turned to avoid the grey dragon.
"Yang, you fool! Get back to the colony, NOW! This is my business! Unless you want to get yourself killed, go now!" Lheyklanth screamed at Yang, before turning his attention to the black smudge against the sky that was now hurtling towards both dragons. With a burst of energy, the grey dragon flapped its wings, not even waiting for Yang's response before heading towards Pyrymis at full speed.

Pyrymis

Pyrymis sees the dragon he was pursuing meet up with another dragon. This new dragon turned towards Pyrymis and started to fly towards him. The sun reflected off his scales as he turned and Pyrymis recognized that color. The only one of his kind, the Grey was here. Oldwing and Pyrymis had a lot of grievences to air out , violently. Pyrymis roared his anger, getting his acid level built up to spew at his onrushing opponent.

Yang

‘Yang, you fool! Get back to the colony, NOW! This is my business! Unless you want to get yourself killed, go now!’

All of the sudden, that roar from Oldwing brought Yang back to earth, metaphorically speaking. Yang had to blink twice to see that the gray giant looming in front of him was really Oldwing, and not just a figment of imagination brought on by the height of his climb.

Yang did not get the chance to retort, as Oldwing flew off to face the now recognizable black speck in the horizon. However, Yang could not have answered Oldwing as he had the mixture already in his mouth. Swallowing it would have not been a pleasant experience. So, Yang decided to help out Oldwing in his confrontation with the Black. Yang had to make sure that the other remaining dragons would not get the chance to interfere.

Yang snickered at the departing Gray, even as he hoped that Oldwing did not see that gesture of defiance, and flew towards the town. He took to the heights again, hoping to fool Oldwing into thinking that he was departing back for the Colony. He swerve downwards as soon as he was sure that he was not observable by Oldwing. Sticking close to the ground, with his wings spread as far as possible, Yang glided with ease following the nape of the earth, at tree top height. With the sun already far past its zenith, Yang was sure that Oldwing and the Black would not see him very easily. With a slight modification to his magic, Yang only had to morphed his colors to match the landscape.

Soon the town loomed ever larger.

fin suddenly felt an greatly evil pressence''z.....wheare is oldwing...'

Zyzzx

"Oldwing? Holyshit, where is Lheyklanth?"

"What do you mean you don't know? Well some one has to know. We'll split up and ask around."

Lheyklanth

The grey dragon awaited Pyrymis' move, knowing the black dragon would be impatient enough to attack first. Sure enough, Pyrymis belched out a stream of acid straight towards the grey dragon, who reflexively flew down just a little to dodge the acid. Thinking he had, he suddenly felt a sharp pain from his tail, and knew that the acid had struck. He was getting slower in his old age.
But this old dog knows some tricks.
Oldwing pushed his great length down a little further, before coming up again at Pyrymis, who was hurriedly getting ready to face the grey dragon's full assault.

Pyrymis

After belching the acid at Oldwing, Pyrymis moved left to get out of the way of any return fire. He sees that Oldwing avoided the majority of the acid, but was scorched on his tail. Oy, that had to hurt. Pyrymis comes at the grey dragon head on. At the last possible second, he rolls down and to the right, coming up under Oldwing. This maneuver had been the undoing of many dragons before, leaving the not as well armored underbelly open to attack. Pyrymis raises his claws to start shredding some scales.

Lheyklanth

Oldwing let out a roar of anger as Pyrymis ducks under him just as he prepared to strike, the black dragon now tearing a painful streak across Oldwing's underbelly with his claws. The black had the advantage of being in his prime age group, more powerful than any fledgling, but not with the deteriation of old age that Lheyklanth had. Still, the grey dragon had more fight in him than Pyrymis, he thought.
As Pyrymis attacked Lheyklanth, the grey dragon clamped down with his claws, relieved to feel his talons grabbing a hold on Pyrymis' body, locking the two dragons together. Lheyklanth rolled, spinning the two of them around until he was on the bottom and Pyrymis on the top, when he launched the black dragon up with his hind legs, breaking off their encounter as he swooped low, and turned almost instantaneously, before flying up towards the temporarily disorientated Pyrymis, his claws rearing back to strike.
