The Economy

The U.S. Treasury’s borrowing showed no signs of slowing as the U.S. headed deeper into fiscal year 2026, with the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reporting that another $1 trillion was added to the federal deficit in the first five months of the year.

The monthly budget review from the CBO, updated to February 2026 and released yesterday, showed that the government is estimated to have borrowed $308 billion last month alone.

Of course, with more borrowing comes higher interest costs on the debt. Between October 2025 (when the 2026 fiscal year started) and February, the Treasury spent an additional $31 billion on net interest on public debt, compared to the prior year. As a result, in just five months, the Treasury forked out a total of $433 billion to service public debt, which is now nearing $38.9 trillion.

Inflation continues unabated … (CPI for February)

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in February, after rising 0.2 percent in January, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 2.4 percent before seasonal adjustment.

Food and energy prices were big gainers …
The food index increased 0.4 percent over the month as did the food at home index, while the food away from home index rose 0.3 percent. The index for energy also increased in February, rising 0.6 percent.

The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2 percent in February.

one can pick up supplies at Aldi for a nice dinner
I find most meat is more costly and not as high quality at Aldie. The produce for sure is a bit lacking and comparably priced to other stores.
Beef is out of reach for a while longer. Chicken you just need to find a deal. Whole chickens are consistently 1.29 at Wegman's, 1.49 at harris Teeter. Got one .99c a lb at Food Lion last week. The Chicken legs I like are 1.69lb when you buy 6, .99 if you buy the large size which usually has 14 legs in it. Oranges are about the same price. Asparagus at walmart still 3.17. Cauliflower is up but 2.99ea at Wegman's. Seen it on sale for 2.29 recent.
Most things I see high prices on are in a box or can. It is still possible to eat well. But do mind if you are having beef or fish you are splurging. Here fish prices went up during covid and never recovered.

Food lions are all over here. No parent stores. Kroger is not here.
BJ’s is here. But it is expensive. Even before Covid BJ’s is the same or higher price and you have to buy more than you need. Costco has some deals but food if high because of the quantity. Like bj’s even their whole chickens you have to buy two at the time and at 1.59 or more. And the chickens are not as good as the .99 to 1.49 ones.

A LOT of Americans seem to share a vision of back-to-the-land primitivism.

But there are just TOO MANY PEOPLE now to feed the Amish way.

It's not just that the US economy is growing at a healthy rate, it is also that the EU isn't growing and China is wandering to a recession. US economic growth has just been incredible during the Biden administration. As the Fed lowers rates, more rocket fuel on this amazing period of growth!
the ignorant and stupidity here ...Biden administration killed the economy then tried to bribe the mentally weak like yourself so that you didn't look being the curtin to see an old brain dead man

Primitivism? Asshole. You probably can't even grow a house plant, let alone a vegetable. You sound like a sissy too. Afraid of fish and guns.
