The Economy

Grumpy old fart failed to convince anyone that his economic plans aren’t wacko. 😆

Trump Lashes Out at Live Fact-Checks During Disaster of an Interview

Donald Trump insisted on bulldozing through gibberish answers during the train-wreck interview.

The former president elicited groans from the crowd while dodging questions about his proposed foreign tariff plan, which includes a 200 percent tariff (which Trump insinuated could even be as high as 2,000 percent) on foreign cars.

Among the questions where Trump skirted a direct answer: the fate of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell; whether he would seek the break-up of Google if he is elected; his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin; and whether he would accept the outcome of the ongoing election battle with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump, who is used to more friendly interviewers in this kind of setting, frequently fought with moderator John Micklethwait, editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News, who constantly had to fact-check the former president.

Another brilliant, creative plan/policy.... from o'l two scoops 🙄🙄🙄🙄 what is it with these people? Ban the export of liquid natural gas?....

There is no ban. 👍

Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing a temporary pause on pending decisions on exports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to non-FTA countries until the Department of Energy can update the underlying analyses for authorizations. The current economic and environmental analyses DOE uses to underpin its LNG export authorizations are roughly five years old and no longer adequately account for considerations like potential energy cost increases for American consumers and manufacturers beyond current authorizations or the latest assessment of the impact of greenhouse gas emissions.

The U.S. is already the number one exporter of LNG worldwide – with U.S. LNG exports expected to double by the end of this decade. At the same time, the U.S. remains unwavering in our commitment to supporting our allies around the world. Today’s announcement will not impact our ability to continue supplying LNG to our allies in the near-term.

Also, please explain why you think eating ice cream is weird. Are you “two scoops” short of a full pint? 😄

Well sure they "paused" the ban, it election time 😂

Try to make your brain function.

So, why do you think ice cream is weird? Is it a Chinese plot to give us brain freeze? Did Bill Gates put nanobots in ice cream? What is your wacko reason for thinking eating ice cream is weird?

Strong discretionary spending lifts US retail sales in September

The slightly stronger-than-expected rise in sales reported by the Commerce Department on Thursday also reflected sharp increases in receipts at clothing store outlets as well as miscellaneous store retailers. Consumers boosted online purchases and spent more at health and personal care stores.
Spending and the overall economy are being underpinned by solid income growth, ample savings as well as strong household balance sheets. Though labor market momentum has slowed, layoffs remain historically low, supporting wage gains.

U.S. deficit tops $1.8 trillion in 2024 as interest on debt surpasses trillion-dollar mark

Published Fri, Oct 18 20244:00 PM EDTUpdated Fri, Oct 18 20244:07 PM EDT

The Biden administration rang up a budget deficit topping $1.8 trillion in fiscal 2024, up more than 8% from the previous year and the third highest on record, the Treasury Department said Friday.

Even with a modest surplus in September, the shortfall totaled $1.833 trillion, $138 billion higher than a year ago. The only years the U.S. has seen a great deficit were 2020 and 2021 when the government poured trillions into spending associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The deficit came despite record receipts of $4.9 trillion, which fell well short of outlays of $6.75 trillion.

Government debt has swelled to $35.7 trillion, an increase of $2.3 trillion from the end of fiscal 2023.

Why it's a waste of time talking to MAGAs about the economy.

It’s actually all about racism and misogyny. The economy canard is just a fig leaf.

Inflation would have happened under a second DonOld administration post-pandemic, just like it did under the Biden administration. It may actually have been worse.

The video you provided speaks to the success of the Biden administration’s economic policies.

Yeah, it’s all about racism and misogyny for the MAGAts at this point.

Strange how the gas price narrative has quieted down recently.

Wonder why

Ans: Republicans have off-gassed themselves?:whistle: When your 'methane-word-based' exhaust is depleted, you can't 'go' anymore. Sort of like a commentary on Trump's 'gases' is no longer amusing and thus not on the topic lately. :giggle:

Germany’s 4-Day Work Week Trial Shows Positive Impact On Well-Being, Productivity

Germany's largest-ever trial of the four-day workweek found that over 90 per cent of employees reported improvements in well-being, life satisfaction, and work-life balance. The pilot study, organised by 4 Day Week Global in collaboration with the University of Münster and consultancy Intraprenör, involved more than 45 organisations across various sectors, making it one of the most comprehensive studies on the four-day workweek worldwide.

Participants experienced significant benefits, such as reduced stress, improved overall health, and an average of 38 extra minutes of sleep per week. Many also reported increased physical activity. Contrary to concerns about reduced hours affecting output, productivity remained stable or even improved, demonstrating that shorter workweeks can maintain or enhance workplace efficiency.

I suspect the 4-day workweek is going to spread fairly quickly. It’s a huge benefit for workers.

Just because 'Truth' Social is failing, doesn't mean the entire economy is. Projection is a MAGA feature, every time a Republican is found to have committed election fraud, they have a need to claim that Democrats are doing it.

I've been hearing about Truth Social failing for so long now, that I wonder if the narrative is failing,

... or if, indeed, it ever succeeded. I do know success when I see it.

I see something waving its arms...
