The Fucking Detective

Eve Croft

She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, then turned her head to face him.
"Why should I give my opinion of him? It doesn't matter what I think does it?" She sat for a moment then decided to speak up.
"Well as I see it, his wife wouldn't be out to kill his mistress if there wasn't one. There wouldn't be one if his wife gave him sex. In my experience, the reason the wife isn't giving him any is because he is lousey in bed. At least any normal female would like sex, unless they dont enjoy their partner... So? Tell me why I should have gone upstairs with you?"

Daniel Malloy

It started out as chuckling, and worked it's way up into a fit of laughter. After a few minutes, he sat back, shaking his head. He looked over at here, eying her up and down. "First ruke to being a detective, Eve: never assume you know people. Upstairs, the man took me to their room. His and his wife's. There wasn't a male object in that room. They haven't been in the same bed for eight months. It's been two years since they last had sex. Two. And if you think he didn't try to get that going again, you're mad. He took Yoga, read up on the subject, hell, he remembered every anniversary of everything they've ever done. Expensive jewelery, flowers, Romantic picnics on the beach. He tried everything. You'd think she'd at least have taken pity on him, and given him one try."

He shook his head. After a while, he leaned the side of his head against the glass of the window, looking out. They were fast approaching the Towers. "And then she leaves, with a gun, over a mistress? No one is so unrealistic as to believe he'd just sit around, twidling his thumbs. So, Eve, you have to understand, you can't ignore anything. I learned enough from watching him speak to be realitively sure he's telling the entire truth. The story about her new car I doubt though, so I won't tell you. Anyway, I learned enough to only need to check one thing downstairs. Her schedule, which you got. If you could, could you tell me what's she's got planned for after her four thirty appointment for the early showing of the new play on Edinburst with her husband?"

Eve Croft

She glanced out the front windshield and waited for the signal to go. "Well her appointment book had her at "Silver Star" for dinner with an unnamed person. Could have been an appointment with her husband, but from what you told me, I doubt it is. So where do we go from here?"

Daniel Malloy

"First, we have to check the mistress's apartment. Let' go."

He waited for her to park the car, and climbed out, entering the Tower's ground floor. He motioned her after him as he went to the elevator. Standing next to her in the close space as the doors shut. He fidgeted a bit, as they went slowly up the floors.

"Not that far from my apartment, actually."

OOC: We need writers! Now! Please?

Eve Croft

She stood in silence in the elevator, watching the numbers climb higher and higher.
"Which floor do you live on?" She turned to look at him, then stepped back a little to give him more room. He looked a little irritated or something.
"What's wrong Daniel? Afraid of tight places?"

She thought for a moment, "What's the mistress's name?"

Daniel Malloy

"Fifty-seventh, and Julie Farnsworth. And no, I'm not afraid of small spaces. It's just,...nevermind. So, why is it that a beautiful young woman such as yourself avoids dating. Surely even you want to have someone in your pants every now and then..."

He grinned, looking at her. He closed his eyes, and leaned against the elevator wall as he waited for her reply.

Eve Croft

She snorted, and glared over at him.
"I dont need someone in my pants thank you very much.." She stood there watching the elevator climb very slowly up and up. She was irritated now, how dare he ask her such a thing? She wanted to wipe the smug look off of his face. She knew that he knew that question irritated her.
"I find life much easier without a man in it. No one telling me what to do, wear, say, or where to be. I have total freedom. And I happen to enjoy it!" She tapped her foot waiting for the damned doors to open. She suddenly did not like being in the elevator with him.
"Do you really think the mistress is going to be here? And what condition is her place in again? If our client was here and police, he could be popped as the perp. and get arrested for entering Miss. Farnsworth's apartment."

Daniel Malloy

He stared at her, amazed. He shook his head a little, laughing. "First of all, I meant: Don't you ever want casual sex? I said nothing about men ruling over you. I meant more of taking a man, using him for a night, and casting him back out into the streets the next day, with only a few more fantasies in his head. That in no way diminishes your freedom, or makes him anything more than a walk-on role in the movie of your life. And, as for the mistress, no, I don't think we'll find her here. And our client was here with the police, he called them, and had a key. I doubt that anyone who has a key and has been going here for the last four or five months would be suspected."

He shook his ehad as the elevator opened, and walked down the hall. When they came to the door, there was a police notice on the door. Daniel ignored it, and unlocked the door, opening it and stepping inside.

"After this we should stop by the station, to see what they have in evidence, pictures, their own lame ideas..." He looked over at her, she looked uncomfortable. He shrugged. "If you're going to get so emotional about something so small, you really shouldn't be a P.I. Your own shrewdness will hold you back from asking the right questions. Look how you thought of our client. Your mind is too narrow, like a cop's. Perhaps that's where you belong, instead of really helping people. A P.I. has no system, he, or she, has no inhibitions, and they hold no secrets. Many times, your clients will ask your questions back at you if too intimate. Don't answer, and they won't, and you could lose a clue. It's training Eve, part of my job for you, remember?"

OOC: Read the first post, numbnuts. Only approved applicants are welcome.

Eve Croft

She glanced around the apartment, it was in shambles.
"Well I have had one night stands before, but it was boring. I think it takes a little time to learn what turns on another and perfect it. A one night stand is ok for lustful things, but it still leaves you empty inside. Besides I have control over myself to not succumb to those feelings now... Oh and a few sex toys.." She laughed and looked around. There was nothing noticable to her. Just everything tossed around on the floor.
"What do you think he or she was looking for here? And I can do the job, I just need training.. why do you think I bought your agency? To learn all there is I can from you. I am not narrow minded too much, just going by what I seen. As you said, I didn't see upstairs. If I had been alone I would have gone everywhere in the house, not just the bottom floor."

Daniel Malloy

"Why? I only looked where he showed me. No use checking things unrelated. His wife wasn't kidnapped, she went out. Look around the apartment. Check all the rooms. Pay close attention to everything and tell me what you think about it. How does this fit in with our case?"

He leaned against the inner wall next to the door, which he closed after she entered. He watched, and waited for her conclusions.

Eve Croft

She glanced around at everything she could see in the front room. It didn't look like anything interesting to her, police maybe, but not her.

"Looks like a burglary, and nothing to do with our case."

He laughed, and shook his head as he pushed off the wall. "Wrong. here, let look at this."

He walked along the living room, pointing things out to Eve. "Here, notice the bookshelf? Only the newer books, with aren't worth much, are on the ground. The older books, which could have an antique value, are left on the shelves. And notice here, how the papers are strewn around from these drawers, but others are ignored?"

He took her into the bedroom, showing how drawers and the closet were open, clothes strewn everywhere. He pointed out the jewelery box was open, but much of it's contents were left untouched. He showed her how the bed was still made, and sat down on it.

"So, you see, it wasn't a burgalry. Someone left this place in an awful hurry. Searched through clothes and jewelery for what was wanted. Old books they didn't want left while new ones are skimmed for content to see if worth taking...This was someone rushed, searching their own possessions. And, as all the clothes are female's, we can tell the mistress, who lives alone, decided to leave. The question is: does this fit in with the case? Did the wife follow her, and that's why she remains missing?"

He lay back on the bed, setting his fedora above his head as he watched her standing at the foot of the bed. "It's really quite comfortable here. Look, a mirror on the ceiling. And here I thought only men did that..."

Eve Croft

She sat on the bed, looking around. That did make sense, searching for what was wanted.
"Why would the wife follow the mistress? That doesn't make sense, unless....? Nah, maybe the wife is somewhere around town and not really missing?"
She glanced up at the ceiling and laughed, "Well maybe she was kinky?"
She didnt know what to make of any of this so she was silent. Perhaps time would tell or at least give a hint or clue. And perhaps the wife and mistress were involved in something and were running for a reason? She didn't know, her police training didn't give her lessons in gut feelings, only what evidence presented.
"Now what are we going to do Daniel?"

Daniel Malloy

"Why? The mistress was the mistress, duh. Even if she wasn't giving her husband what he wanted, maybe she still expected loyalty. Besides, we don't know she did. This could be over a loan shark of a stalker, who knows?"

He watched her in the mirror. He sighed, ans slowly sat up, looking into her eyes. "Now? We ask the police what they have. Maybe they've got a suitcase in evidence. Could be the wife met her at the door, and forced her at gunpoint to her car, drove her out somewhere, and killed her. Could be she left. Gonna have to check. But, that can wait a while. Have anything you want to do?"

Eve Croft

She shook her head, "No, I have nothing pressing to do right now. Just go where ever you need to go. Learn and watch you type thing. Anything I should make note of?" She turned to look at him, it felt a little strange sitting in a strangers bedroom, on the bed, talking to him as if it was a normal every day thing.
She stood up and glanced around, "Perhaps we should go grab something to eat? Or go check out the salon appointment she had before the theater?"

Daniel Malloy

He shrugged his shoulders. He got slowly to his feet, looking around a moment. Finally, he sighed, and shrugged again. Turning to Eve, he looked the room over once more before his eyes settled to hers.

"Food sounds good."

Eve Croft

She stood up from the bed and nodded her head .
"Yes I agree food sounds good right about now, shall we?"
She walked out of the bedroom and to the front door once more looking around at the mess. This case was confusing her.

Daniel Malloy

Slowly, he started to walk after her. He stopped just inside the bedroom door, and took a step back, sliding a drawer open. He raised an eyebrow as he shifted through the small pile of sexy lingerie. He slowly slid the drawer closed, and opened the one under it, shifting through more moderate undergarments.

He closed that drawer, and went to the simple nightstand, sliding it's drawer. He looked through it's contents. An erotic romance novel, a few cold treatments, some condoms, the 'pill', and a small box of tissues. He grunted to himself, and turned to the door.

"Perhaps not as hurriedly an escape as I thought...."

He grabbed his fedora, adjusting how it sat on his head as he went out into the living room. He opened the door for Eve, closing it after her. He walked down to the elevators, calling one up as he turned to look at Eve. "So, where do you want to eat?"

Eve Croft

She waited for the elevator to arrive at the the floor they were on.
"There is this mom and pop diner, old 1900's style just down from the automall, want to give it a try?"
She stepped into the elevator and rode it down. Hoping into her car, she sat and waited for a yes or no answer.

Daniel Malloy

He thought as the elevator rode down. ONce she was in the car, he slowly got in the passenger's side, looking around. He shrugged, and looked to Eve.

"Hey, sounds good to me. I mean, you're the boss."

He grinned, and buckled his safety belt. He leaned back in the seat, looking around at the buildings as he let his mind wander. Small facts, peices of the case's puzzle, were filing themselves in his brain as he ran across the different logical ways to peice them together.

Eve Croft

She kept it off of auto drive and drove the car herself. She arrived at the 'old fashioned' diner. Parking the car, she sat it down on the road. No need to hover all day long.
"Well here we are, Let's get some grub." She unbuckled and walked around the car. Once Daniel joined her, they entered and got a private booth in the corner.
"Well give me some help here, What are you figuring really happened?" She ordered hamburger and fries and a chocolate milk shake. The waitress waited for Daniel to order then made her way to the express meal machine. Fast food now had a new meaning.
"The mistress flee for her life? Flee with someone? Threatened by someone?"
She rambled off her ideas in her mind that was bugging her, but did not really know how to piece it together without the help of a detective team.

Daniel Malloy

He ordered himself a hamburger, fries, and a strawberry milkshake. He sighed, and shrugged as he turned to Eve. He watched her a moment, and then shrugged again.

"How should I know? We'll check with the PD. They'll have all the corners pinned down, and we can figure out if it involves us or not. Could be that our case and her disappearence and completely unconnected. Maybe she jsut won a vacation and was in a hurry to pack. To use asking questions we can't answer."

Eve Croft

She paid the waitress with her credit card when she returned in seconds with their instant meals.
"Well. then lets get to the PD station, and back to the office. May have another crime to solve?" She munched on her fries.
"Are you seeing anyone Daniel? Just a curiousity..."

Daniel Malloy

He picked up his hamburger, biting down and chewing as he set it back on its plate. He watched Eve for a moment as he chewed, and then swallowed. He gave a small chuckle when he was done, and shook his head.

"Nope. Not many women have interests in has-been detectives living in the wrong side of town. Although, now I'm out of that. Which means the few women I might met will probably be looking for publicity, maybe money."

He shrugged, and put some ketchup on the plate, dipping his fries in it before he ate them. Nice and hot. He glared down at them a moment, and added salt before eating another. When he'd swallowed, he looked back up to her.

"Of course, I might be lucky enough to find someone who won't just try to use me. You never really know, do you? Well, you've already said you're not seeing anyone Eve, so I guess the question is: Are you happy being single?"
