Kim and Ryan
Kim went back to the window. Peeking through the window just above the sill, so she could not be seen. She watched as the invading group came through the main entrance. It was a big group, but not huge. Perhaps 400 people, some were wearing anonymous masks, ski hats with face-masks, and even gas masks. Some held bibles high above their heads, chanting verses. Other protesters clearly knew things were going to get violent, had weapons.
The guards at the gate had been overwhelmed. It was a full-blown invasion. She could hear the name-calling and slogans being chanted. This mob was polarized. The ones with weapons and masks seemed to move quickly to the dorms, they wanted death. While the others group of non-face mask people started to mill about.
“Ryan… look there is two groups out there. Mask vs non-masks. We can stay here. We are sitting ducks. We are super heroes. We need to act.”
“They have guns!” Ryan pointed out.
“Yes, and we have super powers.” Kim countered. She actually had no super strength right now. But she knew where she could get a gun. She looked to her van, then she gasped. Some of the masked men attacked her van and no other cars.
“Ryan… look my van!” Kim gasped.
They smashed the driver’s side window and opened the door… they looked inside the van for something or someone. Finding no one, one of the men shot a hole into a tire, disabling the van.
“Some of these people are after me, us” Kim concluded.
“Fuck” Ryan gasped.
The guards were getting better organized around the main guard station. They were not many guards, but they were armed. Objects were being thrown at them by the zealots, but the guard started using tear gas. It was producing a smoking battlefield and soon Kim and Ryan had difficulty seeing what was happening.
“We need to help the guards. Let go” Kim said as she ran to the bathroom and got two hand towels wet. She also went to her school bag and grabbed her chemistry goggles. She tied one wet towel around Ryan nose and mouth. “For the tear gas” She told him. She also put the goggles in his face. Then she held a wet towel to her face. Kim had no goggles… for herself.
“Let’s go” she said as they ran out of her dorm room. Iana, the dutch exchange student, was in the hallway.
“Come on” Kim encouraged her
“Ja” Iana agreed. She ran after Kim and Ryan.
The invaders broke through the main door to Kim’s dorm. The some of the religious mob followed them. Kim, Ryan, and Iana left the dorm via a side entrance. Kim hit by tear gas cloud and her eyes watered badly, but she could breathe. Then she was grabbed by a protester. She immediately twisted the protester hold, into a hold of her own, and applied enough pressure that she brought him to his knees in an arm bar as she neatly stepped behind him. He howled in pain. Her police training had worked perfectly.
“FUCK YOU” she screamed as she kicked the man in the face. Knocking him out.
Kim was having trouble seeing, but if she shut her eyes when the gas got thick, she could make this work. Ryan was having no trouble breathing or seeing.
