Kaite sat devested watching the news earlier today. There was a huge accident involving a drunk driver and a few teens. She was nervous about her kid cousin she had been out with a few friends and she hadn't heard anything from her yet and called a few times and she hadnt picked up which seemed strange to her.

She got confirmation when the police showed up at the door later on. She hadnt left the house in 2 days and had been grieving and cry the whole time.

Ben Forester was on call when the accident happened. He was 25, a few years out of the police academy, and this was the biggest thing he had handled. What was worse was that one of the victim's cousins lived next door to him. He had to deliver the news of her death to the family, and saw the woman break down.

He had noticed that her car hadn't moved in the past two days, and realized that she wasn't handling this very well. He knew it was hard, but he knew she needed to get back into the world. He decided to walk over and at least try to help. He wasn't sure if he could do anything, but grabbed his keys, cell phone, and pager, before heading over to her door.

He knocked on her door and waited for the door to open, not quite knowing what to say when she answered the door. He didn't even know if the door would be opened, but he hoped she would, so that he could try to get her out of her reclusive shell.

Katie opened the door wearing a robe and had bloodshot eyes. She felt numb and like she was dreaming that his happened but everytime she checked the guestroom her cousin wasnt here with her.

She cracked the door seeing the cop who delivered the news in fear it would be something else. She stood nervous not sure if she should answer.

Ben stood looking at this woman. She was still beautiful, but it was easy to see that she had not taken the news any better than most. The bags under her eyes, couples with the bloodshot eyes themselves showed that she was still taking it hard.

He took a breath and tried to smile in a friendly manner. "Ma'am, I know this is hard for you, but you have to move forward. I understand that it's hard to deal with the loss of your cousin, but she wouldn't want you to lock yourself away like this. You need to go shower, and change. We are going to get food," he said, his tone letting her know that he was completely serious.

Katie looked down at herself. Hes right.she thought. But why did he come back? To check on her?. She glances back up at him and raised her eyebrow "You came all the way here to make me eat?" She sniffled with a slight giggle "You cops are really dedicated huh?" she stepped aside "Come in..We don't need everyone else seeing how terrible I look. Your Right. She probably would've told me to quit biting my ass but its hard to know she wont actually be here to tell me it in person. Im Katie by the way. The station sent you?"

Ben shook his head. "I'm actually your next-door neighbor. I just never realized it until I had to deliver the news to you. After not seeing your car move for the past two days, I decided to check on you. This isn't for the force, this is for myself," he said with a smile.

He looked around her house as he walked into her house. It was very nicely decorated, with a feminine touch. It wasn't overpowering though. He was actually slightly surprised. He smiled at her again, before continuing.

"I don't want you to become a shut-in, or withdraw from those around you. If I can help you, I will definitely try. You can use me as a shoulder if you need to, but right now, you need to get showered and go eat," he said, smiling as he slipped out of his shoes and sat down on the couch to let her get ready.

Katie shook her head " Thats really sweet but im fine i just needed a few days" she ran her fingers through her hair. He seemed serious about helping and hadn't budged. Stubborn cop she thought.I sighed"ok ill go eat with you. Im a bit of wreck but i promise ill be fine".

She was surprised hed that much and was glad hed come she felt alone and zoey was the closest family she had. Losing her so suddenly was shocking.

Ben smiled as he watched her heading off to get ready. He knew she could definitely use the time away. Ever since delivering the news Zoey had died, he realized she was alone. They were the only two who seemed to be staying in this house, and he wondered just how she'd take it.

He started humming softly to himself, wondering what they would do for dinner. He was just trying to get her out of her shell, trying to get her back into life. He just wasn't sure if it would work, or how well it would work.
