I can't tell if you're being sardonic about something or not :p Well what ever is going on, I hope it goes okay for you :D

I'm not... I met someone....She's awesome... So I deleted the two paragraph long list of partner qualifications from my Fet profile... (And the irony is that she "falls short" of a few of those things that I claimed were so important...)

Oh yay ^_^ And I totally understand the latter...my relationship falls short of a few huge qualifications...but I wouldn't trade it :)

Baked beans on toast, with vintage cheddar fully melted into the beans in the saucepan.

Sometimes nothing else will do.

I wish my roommate wasn't so f*n fit and adorable. I have been doing so much better with exercising, but she makes me feel like a blimp. I just want to drop this weight so bad :(

I know how you feel. I swear this is the first store i've worked in where the majority of the crew were tiny. Usually they're more average, but this group is tiny and they complain about having a belly. I just want to smack them all some times.

I have noticed that my work pants are much looser in the waist, hips, and thighs as well as my corset that used to have a 4 inch gap in the back, was laced to a 1 inch gap the other night which never would have been possible in the past. So I know i've slimmed down. Then I go to the doc and the scale says 235. that's only a 10lb difference from 3 months ago. *sigh*

I don't know what you've been doing to lose some weight and slim down, but clothes don't often lie.

Anyhoo... essentially, it goes like this: If you lose fat, you lose weight. If you gain muscle, you gain weight, but may *appear* to lose weight (you get smaller) because you're replacing fat with muscle. You get smaller, but don't lose what would seem like a proportionate amount of weight, because the muscle is more dense than the fat was. So, in this case, it seems that you've lost a substantial fatty portion (the getting smaller part), and improved your muscle tone and/or gained muscle (the not losing as many pounds as the smaller body size would imply). These are good things, on the whole, even if the *numbers* don't make you happy. Whatever it is you're doing, though, I'd say keep it up.

Muscle mass comes in two forms, aerobic and anaerobic (dark meat vs light meat). Aerobics are longer like going for a 5 mile jog, while anaerobic exercise is short like running up a flight of stairs.

I would suspect you are now doing more anaerobic exercise (or rather mutiple bursts of it during your day) because they tend to replace fat with muscle mass and not affect your weight as much. The result being that your body gets slimmer even though you only loose a few body, similar to what you are describing.

If you were doing aerobic exercise, then you would be losing more fat/weight because aerobic exercise builds muscle at a slower pace (but the benefit is that when you stop exercising, you also lose that muscle gained at a slower pace as well).

The advice I have received is that one does anaerobic exercise to replace fat with muscle and then switch over to aerobic exercise to convert the anaerobic muscle mass to aerobic muscle mass so that it will not go away if you take breaks in your exercise routine.

Here's a one page summary explaining the differences a bit more clearly than I can.

I'm pretty familure with the concept of fat vs muscle, which is why I hate scales. When I was in high school, I went from a size 18 to a size 9/10 in 4 months, but also went from 155 to 165 in that same time period. I didn't even own a scale until Jounar asked me to buy one so he had something to measure me by when he went on a health kick after his dad died.

Don't worry, I'm not discouraged. For me to loose 10lbs is really amazing. I don't have much trouble slimming down, but actually loosing weight is near impossible. I stopped looking at weight a few years ago, and just decided to be healthier at any weight I am. Doesn't mean I don't want to bash heads in when thin people talk about having a tummy, but it does mean I resist the urge to follow through.

I agree with you there. Whenever I take a deep breath in public and people point at my belly, turn and run while screaming:

"Flab-alanche!!!"

I just shrug and keep on waddling away.

I'm definitely slimming out and losing some fat AND gaining some muscle. I'm making progress and my roommate and I feed on each other for exercising. We both feel a little bit of obligation to help the other out and sometimes we both end up working out just for the other person (at the same time!!). As frustrating as she is to work out with, that frustration is good motivation too.

So my doctor has me on a low carb, low fat diet, and things I don't LIKE are starting to smell good. Like the taco's my hubby is making himself.
