The Isolated Politics Blurt Thread I: A New Beginning

i was really surprised to read that only around 10% of the labour market in America is unionized!

this week the Mercedes-Benz plant in Alabama vote; it's a test this time to see how the vote will turn out given the company's anti-union messaging, something Volkswagen (TN) didn't do, taking a more neutral stance even in the face of 6 major TN political names threats and fearmongering.

Fun fact: some of the highest paid employees in the US are unionized … professional athletes. The player unions in baseball, football and basketball negotiated huge pay increases and other benefits.

It’s surprising that employees in other industries haven’t followed suit.

It might look bad on a zoomed in video, but that is protocol.

And the female officer did NOT "grope" the protester: she conducted a STANDARD pat search for contraband.

Also:

The officers clearly attempted to give the woman some privacy behind the police cruiser.

Also;

If that female officer hadn’t done that STANDARD pat search for contraband, she could have been fired.

Note:

A male officer did NOT conduct the pat search.

Houston County, GA sheriff's office just lost a case that's cost them $1.2m of taxpayer's money fighting another court's decision that a trans woman (Sergeant Lange) who has worked for them since 2006 should have her $10,000 surgery/care paid for by her health benefits with them.

“Today’s victory is a win not just for me, but for all transgender Southerners who deserve equal access to life-saving transition-related care,” said Lange in a TLDEF press release.

“I have proudly served my community for decades and it has been deeply painful to have the county fight tooth and nail, redirecting valuable resources toward denying me basic health care — health care that the courts and a jury of my peers have already agreed I deserve. I’m pleased to see that yet another court has deemed those efforts to be unfair and illegal.”

In 2022, a federal judge of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia ruled that Lange had been discriminated against, citing the Supreme Court case Bostock v. Clayton County as legal precedent.

That ^ makes me happy and furious at the same time:

I’m happy for the ruling, but furious that taxpayers are on the hook for the judgement that was necessitated because of some bigoted assholes.

So…

NO elective procedures should be covered by employer provided insurance.

A GOP Texas school board member campaigned against schools indoctrinating kids. Then she read the curriculum.

The pervasive indoctrination she had railed against simply did not exist. Children were not being sexualized, and she could find no examples of critical race theory, an advanced academic concept that examines systemic racism. She’d examined curriculum related to social-emotional learning, which has come under attack by Christian conservatives who say it encourages children to question gender roles and prioritizes feelings over biblical teachings. Instead, Gore found the materials taught children “how to be a good friend, a good human.”

Here is the bottom line problem.

Fractional reserve lending does not make banks “broke”. 🙄

And anyone who wants to remove deposit insurance is a fool and knows nothing about economic history. It doesn’t protect a poorly managed bank from failing, it protects the people who deposited money in the bank.

There’s a continuing series of these videos explaining why former Trump voters aren’t voting for him this time.

Another example of why you can't trust 'Pubs.

"As committee chair, Republican Representative Glenn "GT" Thompson of Pennsylvania will lead the lower chamber's efforts in drafting a new Farm Bill, a comprehensive spending package passed every five to six years that directs U.S. food and agriculture policy. Markup of the House draft of that bill is scheduled for Thursday.

In Thompson's draft, the cost of SNAP would be reduced by $30 billion over 10 years by preventing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) from updating the cost of Thrifty Food Plan—outside of adjustments for inflation—which determines how much money will be doled out through SNAP."

Every five or six years ago was 2018 when:

"The Thrifty Food Plan was updated in 2021 for the first time in decades to factor in real purchasing power. This came on the heels of a directive outlined in the 2018 Farm Bill that directed the USDA to reevaluate the plan, which was developed in the 1960s. This resulted in SNAP recipients receiving an extra $36 per month."

And who was in charge of the House then?

House majority Republican
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R)

2nd: January 3, 2018 – January 3, 2019

'Pubs are like Russians. You can't trust anything they say because they'll often go back on their word and things they supported.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, the judge overseeing former President Trump’s Georgia election interference case, has won his race for reelection, according to Decision Desk HQ.

McAfee fended off a challenge from civil rights attorney Robert Patillo II, retaining his seat on the Superior Court. He’s overseeing a case launched by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) into whether Trump and his allies sought to overturn the Georgia 2020 election results.
