After reading through the final day at der Tylerbunker, I believe you might just be correct.
HisArpy shows up, starts hurling around his legalisms and other dribble, and finds that, unlike elsewhere on the Political Board, people actually believe him! It's like throwing gasoline on a fire!

We had saltwater intrusion in the Houston shipping channel (flow reversed from rivers flowing into the Gulf to the Gulf tempoarily flowing upstream) for a mere 24 hour after Hurricane Beryl blew through here in four hours last month.I can’t imagine how much that is going to exacerbate the current problem of saltwater intrusion in many locations. (Not to mention, how it will affect hurricane impacts.)
Mucked up quite a bit of channel related stuff.
When it really mucks up the drinking water and the agriculture of large swaths of the country and the world, things are going to get real (and real costly) very quickly.
The “ounce of prevention” axiom was never more relevant than right now.

I'm having to remind myself that not all republicans are stupid.
Despite it appearing to the contrary, and ignoring the truly deeply maggoty trump-lovers who actually want everything he does and even more, how smart you are falls by the wayside under the influence of a psychopath. I should know. When it grows to the extremes it has with trump, then you have the cult mentality.
Being attached to trump is exactly like being in an abusive relationship: he looks for the needy, the desperate, the vulnerable, the unhappy and then 'love-bombs' them. To outsiders, he appears crass, ignorant, dangerous... a truly vile person; to the people he embraces, he seems "charismatic", "honest", "understanding" of their plights. Once they fall in love with his perceived nature (which can happen too quickly for any common-sense practicality), they are invested in believing all he tells them. Even if some things he does ring alarm bells, they ignore them by buying into the 'that's not what he said/meant' and 'he's joking!' or by listening to his excuses and "seeing" he has a point. Again, to the outsider, this man is the opposite of charismatic and his lies and extreme behaviour are obvious and obscene.
The people under his spell not only WANT to believe him, after a while (having ignored the small voices of their conscience) they NEED to believe him, having invested so much of their credence in him. To question him at this stage seems a betrayal and pointless, to boot. It would mean having to take an 'outsider's look at him when they still value being 'valued' by him (not that he does, of course).
He doesn't care about these individuals: they are pawns to be used and discarded at will. However, he will toss them just enough scraps of his attention to keep them feeling valued and so they continue to support him, hiding/denying his flaws and even feeling elevated above others towards whom he expresses ire.
It is only when the circle is broken that the madness evaporates, leaving the individual questioning "how on earth didn't I see it? How did he have me behaving like that? This man is a truly truly awful person." When you're inside the relationship, you're incapable of viewing it objectively. Outside, a person is left bewildered and shocked at being so easily manipulated.
So I am again reminding myself that advice can be offered though to expect it to be ignored, but just because these people are victims of a psychopath doesn't make them stupid or without hope in the future.

Trump Brings Back 2016 Campaign Manager Known for 'Letting Trump Be Trump'
Corey Lewandowski, the controversial campaign chief who helped deliver Donald Trump to the White House in 2016, has returned to former president's campaign as it works to regain its footing following the surprise swap of Joe Biden for Kamala Harris atop the Democratic ticket.
Lewandowski, who had remained an informal Trump advisor for the past eight years, is now going to advise the campaign's senior leadership, as first reported by Politico.
The campaign is also adding other Trump veterans to their ranks as part of the shake-up. Tim Murtaugh, who was the communications director for his campaign in 2020, will be joining the team. Alex Pfeiffer and Alex Bruesewitz, who were top officials for an outside super PAC, are also coming aboard.

MAGA candidate prevails in Minnesota Republican primary race for senator. Super homophobe, proud anti-Semite. transphobe and especially misogynistic. Senator Amy Klobuchar's reelection is essentially a lock now.

I'm more shook up by the loss of the ammosexual safe space than I thought! Edited to add: okay, confession time. I routinely mangle Klobuchar's name so often that I spent extra time making sure I had it exactly right, to avoid being JaFOed. And what do I do? Get her first name wrong.

I'd like to see either President Joe Biden award Jordan Chiles with a special bronze medal in place of the one she had unfairly stripped from her by judges who are loathe to own up to their mistakes and an arbitration team who compounded the wrong-doing

Donnie has acted like a petulant 4-year old in the way he pretends to always win and wails “I didn’t lose, you cheated!”
But now his petulant 4-year old act has expanded to include the increasingly bizarre stories he makes up and pretends are true.
His devolution will be complete if he throws a temper tantrum and cries at the debate. It could happen.
