The Kings Present

The king moved closer and then touched Flame, his finger running from her shoulder, down over her breast, pausing to pinch her nipple, then down to her flame red hair. The dagger pressed slightly into her skin and then was gone.

Owain had felt the burning at his wrists and ankles, but it was strangely not burning him. His anger exploded as he felt the bonds loosen and the king move his hand down Flames body. He lept up, grabbing a knife and rushed his father, pulling the dagger away from Flame, he plunged his knife into the kings neck, the blood sputtering out covering them all as the king fell to the floor.

Flame held herself still as the King touched her. She gasped as he pinched her nipple. She urged the fire to burn faster, then a movement over the kings shoulder caught her attention. It all happened very quickly, the next thing she knew the king fell to the floor. Looking up at Owain she reached up to her face and then looked down at her body, there was blood on her breasts and when she lowered her finger tips she saw it on them as well. "Owain," she whispered and looked up at him, any of the strength she had shown in front of the king vanished and she started shaking.

Owain took Flame into his arms as she looked frail, their naked torso's now pressed together. He inched as she touched his cuts.

The king watched them as his life blood leaked from him and finally he was no more

Flame clung to Owain burying her face against his shoulder. Finally she pulled back and looked at him. Looking at his cuts she winced, "I am sorry, it's all my fault. If you hadn't tried to get me away from here you wouldn't have gotten hurt."

Owain looked down to her 'I'd have kept running for you, endured all the pain to see you safe. But now I think we have no need to run.'

He looked down to the kings body

'I guess I rule now...'

Looking down at the body of the king she cringed, at the sight of his lifeless eyes and all the blood. "Won't you get in trouble because you killed the king?" she asked rubbing her hands as if trying to get rid of the blood.

'Maybe, but mother is the key to that' Owain looked down at Flame 'do you wish to get dressed?'

"I want to get washed," she said finally giving up on trying to get the blood off her. She stepped away from him and grabbed the clothes she had been wearing and slipped them back on.

Owain watched as Flame dressed. Knowing that he wanted her not to, but also knowing he was not his father.

He reached for his jacket and winced as the pain of the lash marks hit him

Turning as she heard the wince she moved back to his side. "You need a healer to look at these," she said helping him put on his jacket.

Suddenly there came a loud banging on the door to the room. Flame looked at Owain and then down at the king. "What do we do?"

'We can't run, they'll be more likely to chase, get dressed be quiet and stay by me'

Owain leaned in and kissed her then - kissed her with a meaning

Nodding when he told her to stay by him and stay quiet, she was caught by surprise when he kissed her. But soon she closed her eyes and kissed him back.

Then the door was thrown open and guards entered the room. Flame pulled back and stepped back, still staying close to Owain.

The guards charged in - swords drawn. They stared at the body of the king then Owain and Flame

'fetch my mother.' demanded Owain, the soldiers paused then one ran off - leaving the other three.

'what have you done?' asked one

'taken the throne.' said Owain with a voice of authority he did not yet feel was his

Flame slipped more behind Owain as the guards stood there. She readied herself incase he needed her fire if this didn't go well. As the fire seemed to take its time coming to her she realised she was going to need to rest as well as wash.

Owain reached round and took Flames hand squeezing it tightly as he waited for the Queens arrival, the soldiers kept on their guard

At the feel of his hand she let the hand he took cool and squeezed his hand back. Fearing what would happen when the queen would come.

There were sounds coming from outside the room and then the queen appeared, the guards parting for her, yet keeping an eye on the two of them. The queen came to a stop when she saw the body of the king. Her eyes moved over that of her husband and then moved to her son and Flame. 'What happened here?"

Owain looked into her face 'mother, he was beating me and going to use this girl. I responded' He looked down and the queen walked to her dead husband. She carefully leaned over and spat on his face. The gasp ensued from the soldiers 'about time this was ended' she said in a low tone then turned to Owain and Flame before raising her voice to the guards 'well - kneel before your king!' she demanded

Flame watched the queen closely not moving. Sharing the surprise the guards seemed to have at the queens actions, yet unlike them she remained quiet. When the queen looked at them she didn't know what to do and she felt herself fidget slightly. Then she gasped when the queen ordered the guards to kneel. There was a buzz of confusion from the guards before they started to kneel. "Owain," she whispered as she stood there looking at them amazed.

Owain looked round as they all moved to kneel, 'mother?' he whispered and she nodded to him. Then he turned to Flame and held out his hands...

Flame relaxed as the guards kneeled. They weren't going to get in trouble for the kings death and nor would she have to run away. She was happy about that because she really liked Owain and she didn't want to leave now. Looking at Owain and then at his hands she slipped her own hands into his and smiled at him.

Owain took Flame to his chambers again 'here - you can wash' he whispered and sat on the end of the bed, carefully tending his wounds. He watched Flame as she moved wanting to understand her reaction to the events

Flame followed Owain as he took her to his rooms. Taking a bowl of water she sat close to the fire and strip her top off. With her back to Owain she started washing the blood off her with a towel. Glancing over her shoulder she watched Owain tending to his wounds. Picking up the bowl again she moved to the end of the bed and kneeled in front of him. Taking a clean corner of the towel she dipped it in the water which she warmed slightly and started to dab at his wounds washing away the blood, both his and his fathers. "I owe you my freedom and I don't know what I can do to ever repay you," she told him.

Owain watched as Flame cleaned herself, then as she came to him he smiled to her,

as she spoke he just smiled and leaned down to kiss her - his hand gently lifting her chin - 'be yourself Flame - you have your freedom. Would you stay here withme?'

Closing her eyes and returning his kiss she looked up at him as he asked if she would stay with him. He was telling her to be herself and that is all she had ever wanted. Nodding her head, "I would love to stay here with you," she told him smiling and blushing at him.

Owain smiled and pulled Flame close 'I've not felt this before Flame' he whispered and began to kiss her again
