The Legend of Zelda: Descendants of Destiny

Darrus did not much like the idea of disclosing his heritage. It was something that he had shared with few people. He might have been guided here by the hand of Luna, but that did not mean he implicitly trusted his new allies. He decided to stick to the most basic facts as he told them, "I am but a simple warrior priest of Luna. I have spent the last few years communing with nature. I think that is all that is worth saying about me."

She nodded to the Princess. "I am bound to Link and will accompany him wherever this quest might lead." She replied.

Navi turned to Darrus and eyed the berries covetously, wondering what he knew of the sacred forest and its secrets. It was clear that he could sense her apprehension, which meant that his intuitive instincts were as finely honed as her own. She fluttered over and took a couple of berries, smiling up at him as she did so. Navi was too shy to do more than murmur her thanks and retreat. There was something feral in his aura that unnerved her, a restlessness and latent sexuality that was quite scary. He seemed genuine though and according to Zelda he was about to become a saviour of Hyrule.

Navi returned to her place beside Link.

Darrus was pleased that the little farie came over and took the berries. He gave a little smile as she took a few. She gave a small thank you and he replied, "You are welcome to them when you want, I have a good stash of them for the time being," then popped the few she left in his palm into his mouth. He looked the fey creature over intently as she retrieved her snack. It would take a little time to earn her trust. She could obviously sense his primal spirit and did not know what to make of it. He turned to Link, "You are fortunate to have one such as her for a companion."

"Yes," Link replied to Darrus. "Although, I was unaware of her companionship until just now."

Link listened carefully as Zelda recounted the Dark Legend and explained their mission. "So, Darrus and I are descendants of Sir Gladius, and only we can enter the Forest of Hope to get the Triforce of Courage... If I may ask, Your Highness, how many others do you believe will come? How long shall we wait before setting forth for the forest?"

Navi listened with interest, also looking to Zelda for an answer to Link's question. There was much to learn but the nature of their circumstances surely meant that time was of the essence now. However long they waited for more to arrive would be a dice thrown against the time remaining to reach the Triforce before the powers of darkness could.

"So far, it has only been you three to answer my call." Zelda looked towards the window, taking a breath. "However, my brother and father are both well aware of the situation taking place, and that others may arrive that have heard my call. My brother is a bit... questioning... of all of you.... but my father has the deepest faith in what I have done. Our quest can begin in the morning, and others who may be travelling shall be greeted and informed by my family."

She guestured towards the door, starting towards it herself. "I invite you all to take advantage of the luxuries of the castle for the time being, however. You'll need to ready yourselves for the trip ahead of us... so please, feel free to do as you wish in the castle and ready any provisions that you feel you may need."

Darrus gave a bow to the princess, "Thank you for your genorosity. I shall head to the castle's chaple first."

Darrus had a lot to think about now. He wanted to spend some time in prayer. Hopefully the Goddess would send him some insight into how best to deal with this problem.

As he walked, Darrus thought about what else he would need to do. After an hour or so in prayer he would see to making sure he was properly equiped. The castle's smith would hopefully put a good edge to his sword. He need to make sure he had maps, rope, and all the other tools he needed. He also wanted to get two horses. He had made good time running to the castle from the forest and could likely match pace with one durring overland travel, but it would be far more confortable to ride and would allow for faster travel in a short bursts. The second horse...well that was an emergancy food source. Once he had his supplies he intended to take advantage of the Royal kitchen staff and enjoy a good meal. That would followed up with a warm bath and by the time it was finished he would have just enough time to get into a confortable bed. After so long in the forest he wanted to enjoy the luxuries of the royal palace.

"Thank you for your hospitatily, Milady," Link bowed slightly, then turned to leave. "I have much to ask you, little one," he said to Navi on his shoulder. He walked with her down and out into the garden. They looked at the variety of flowers and plants in the garden, and saw other people enjoying their beauty as well. "I must ask, Navi -- will you really be by my side until my death?"

Navi smiled, flattered that Link considered her such a valuable companion, small though she was. Many young men would have been affronted by the notion that they needed accompanying by a fairy.

"I am bound to you, life to life, until one of us dies. I am bound to obey you, though you may not command me to do anything evil. I am here to support and advise you as I can. If you ever desire to, you can order me to leave and I will warp automatically to my own home. Whenever you call my name, I am bound to answer. These are the rules by which we both must live. I have knowledge of some of the ancient writings and prophecies and I also have powers to warp, create a forcefield and heal wounds."

Navi looked among the flowers but her gaze was more purposeful than appreciative.

"There is a flower that allows me to replenish my magic powers. It is the blue zaffodil. I think it would be a good idea to find some and collect their nectar before we leave. So what luxuries of this palace shall you partake of Link?" She asked playfully, knowing that he had never required much in order to be content.

"I shall never issue a direct order, my little friend," said Link with a smile as they walked. "I will ask favors when I need to, but you have the choice whether or not to grant what I ask." He reached over to lightly pat her on the head with his finger. "Where are we to find these flowers, Navi? As for luxuries, a soft bed and a good hearty dinner are all I shall partake of, with the exception of strolling through this wonderous garden."

Truxsol stood next to the entrance to the blue room and watched as Link and Darrius walked out. He eyed them critically but couldn't see anything suspicious although the presence of a fairy on the green-clothed man's shoulder was encouraging. He waited for his sister to exit, wanting to ask her opinion of their visitors.

Navi sighed, unable to spot what she was looking for.

"They grow in the sacred forest, in the shelter of trees. I am told they grow elsewhere but I have yet to find them. Perhaps Princess Zelda will know."

She sat on Link's shoulder companionably, pleased that he wanted her to be there. Her long task of following him without being seen had been a long and lonely undertaking and she was suddenly very grateful to have a companion with whom she might chat like this.

"Perhaps," Link said with a smile. "I will ask her when next I see her." They strolled through the garden a few more times, then Link stopped and turned to look at Navi on his shoulder. "What would you like to do with the rest of our day, little one? If you desire some time to be alone, then by all means, go. However, I would be much obliged if you and I spent a bit more time together. I find your company very enjoyable." he said with a smile.

Zelda smiled as her guests exited the room, taking a moment to pick up her own trinkets from the stand beside her chair- only to feel that someone was watching her from the doorway. She glanced around the door as she started out, grinning to her brother. "Spying on me?," she teased, the rather formal form of speaking she had used with the guests seeming to fade with the presence of family.

"Now what would father think of that? You really don't trust me." Flicking open the small white fan she had fetched from the room, she raised an eyebrow to him from behind it. "Think about your words, Truxsol, before you say it... Remember; these people have only come here because I summoned them."

The hand with fan in its fingers extended, tapping her sibling on the nose before she smiled once more. "Have faith in me, please. It may seem strange to you, but I truly do know what I'm doing. Now.... Are you going to come with me to the kitchen? I'm in the mood for something sweet."

Wrinkling his nose at the fan in a playful way Truxsol looked down the corridor, checking the others had left.
"I trust you, sister, more than I should to leave you in their alone with strangers. You summoned someone, we had no way of knowing who would come. Is it really groundless to think someone you didn't summon would come on the orders of our enemy? But they seemed tranquil, and the fairy on that green one's shoulder has convinced me a little trust. But I'm still glad I'll be accompanying you with them outside the city.
"Let's go get something to eat, I had a long night and tiring morning - I need a good breakfast. Would you like me to send a servent for our guests as well?"

Navi excused herself for a little while and found a small fountain in a quiet, walled part of the garden in which to wash and freshen up a little. She brushed out her long blue hair and stripped in order to rinse out her clothes, drying them in an instant with a little touch of magic. Navi flitted about for a few minutes, enjoying the sun on her exposed skin. Nestled in the shade of the fountain, she found a couple of the flowers she sought and drank from them, replenishing her power and equipping her for whatever lay ahead. She washed down the sticky nectar with water from the fountain and then pulled on her clothes once more.

On her way to find Link again she saw Darrus sitting contemplatively on his own. She approached him quietly and spoke to him, emboldened by his kindness earlier.

"I understand if you desire solitude but I can see that you carry a heavy burden with you wherever you go. How came you to be thus? Is there no way of restoring you to your former state?"

She settled on the floor before him, out of arms reach although she knew that he would be too swift to evade if he chose to pounce. His aura was conflicted and troubled, two strong natures at war within his form. Navi wanted to offer him a confidante, should be desire one.

Darrus gave a light chuckle, "There is no former state for me. I am as I was and will be," he gave a rueful smile and continued, "I have a burden to bare that is tied to who I am and it cannot be lifted. That is why I pray to Luna. If the burden cannot be lifted, prehaps she can give me the strength to carry it."

Darrus looked down at the little farie and smiled. He was glad that she was less fearful of him, though it was not lost on him that she kept her distance. That did not bother him, he was use to such a reaction from those that could sense his dual nature. Still, it was nice of her to keep him company. He had spent long enough meditating alone.

Darrus reached into his pouch and again produced a berry for her. He held it out on his palm before her, hoping that would seem less agressive. He told her, "Go ahead and take it. The berries will spoil if kept to long so I have no need to hord them." He admired her as he contemplated her. She was a lovely creature. He rather liked the blue color of her wild hair. He woundered what she might know of him and how their time together would be spent. Faries tended to have lovely singing voices, prehaps music was in order. He reached into his pouch, but this time he retrieved a wooden recorder. Once his hand was free of the berry, he began to play a light, but happy tune.

Navi hesitated a moment. The tune was unfamiliar to her but it had been a while since she had heard such well played music and that Darrus was playing just for her was flattering. She started singing in a soft, light voice, slightly amplified with the magic nectar she had consumed so recently. There were no words, just the high, clear tones of someone well used to using her voice as an instrument.

As he played, she drew closer to him, almost unwittingly. It was obvious to her that when Darrus played, his aura calmed and he did not dwell on his burdens. Sensing that this was perhaps a better therapy for him than conversation, Navi sang along, harmonising with his notes in places as she became familiar with the tune.

"Let them wander. I'm sure they'll find something to enjoy themselves while they explore," Zelda said with a shake of her head, placing a hand on her brother's shoulder. "And I appreciate your concern for me, but I can assure you... I trust these people. Knowing that you're coming along as well may seem a bit of a burden-" She paused with that, smiling before winking at him. "...But to have my brother at my side means I have someone I can rely on no matter what, just in case my judgement does happen to be wrong."

Starting down the steps, she paused a moment, playing with her fan in her fingers. "They think of me as the perfectly regal princess right now. I'm worried that if they see us playing around the way we do that they'll think less of me. I know it's not right to hide a part of myself from them... but we truly need their help. If they think of me as acting like child, I'm afraid I'll lose their trust." She glanced at him, a soft frown on her face. "You don't think I'm being foolish, do you? They all seem so brave; even the little fairy. I would hate for any of them to leave our quest because of actions on my part."

The music was relaxing, but it was Navi's singing that made it beautiful. He had learned the music in the forest and it was in harmony. Without a faries voice, however, the true magic would not come out. Darrus felt more at peace now than he had in a long time.

He watched her dance closer and picked up a faster paced melody. It was a wild tune, the song of a summer storm. There was an entraping quality to the music and he was sorry when the tune had ended. He looked down and smiled at the farie, "You have the most beautiful singing voice I have heard."

"I shouldn't worry, sister, after a few days roughing it to get to he forest your regal demeanor will have vanished. If they don't run away from being kept all night from your snoring then I think they have real faith in you. Besides, an almost myth-like quest across the country against a fearsome and powerful foe with princesses and fairys.....how could they resist? Now, are we going to the kitchen because I really am starting to hunger." He said, sweeping his arm towards the bottom of the steps and the kitchens, grinning.

Navi & Darrus in garden.

She fluttered down from where she had been twirling in the air, dancing and singing in time with the fevered melody. Navi blushed at Darrus' praise and bowed gracefully. Fairies always bowed rather than curtsied, it was traditional.

"I am glad that we had this time together Darrus. I fear though, that Link will be wondering where I've gone to by now. I should really go and find him. Thank you again for the berries."

Navi retreated shyly and when she was a little distance away, she took of and began a wide circle of the gardens, looking to see where Link was. Probably, his hunger and fatigue had taken him within the castle by now.

Link circled through the garden a few more times before heading to the kitchen. He asked for ham and eggs, then sat down at the large table to dine. He looked around and greeted everyone who was sitting at the table, then proceeded to eat mannerly.

(I'll post again once everyone is at the table, lol. I don't know who all is there yet)

Most of Darrus's tasks were completed. Now that the important things were out of the way, it was time for the evening meal. He made his way to the kitchen. He had the staff whip up an excellent meal, heavy on meat. He soon found himself eating across from Link. He nodded politely then set into his meal.

"Hmph." Zelda tried to give a dirty look to her brother with the snoring remark, but couldn't help but smile before giving him a shove. "I may puff here and there, but its no where near as terrible as the dragon that lives in your throat at night!"

Laughing at his frustrated wave at the kitchen, she gave a nod, following him in. She felt a bit better with the conversation with him on her demeanor, feeling comfortable enough now to let herself go a bit more around their guests. Settling at the table, she asked one of the kitchen staff for her usual treat of a pastry and juice, then glanced next to her- finding Link, already nibbling at a plateful of food himself. "Making yourself right at home, I see...," She said with a smile.
