The Misfits (OOC)

I'm thinking of a RP lightly based on the British show Misfits. The show is about a group of young offenders who get caught up in a strange electrical storm while doing community service and develop superpowers soon after. In the show, they tend to use their powers for personal gain and no-so-heroic endeavors, but for this RP, I was thinking making it even darker with the characters becoming more villainous as the story progresses, much like the transformation of Walter White from high school science teacher to criminal mastermind in Breaking Bad.

We can keep the theme of them being young offenders doing community service together like in the show, but we'll create our own characters and base it in Los Angeles. The characters should probably be in the same age range, like 18-21 or something. My guy will be 20 and his power is Jedi-like telekinesis, but if he learns to channel his anger, he can concentrate the telekinetic force into energy blasts or even lightning. His powers will start off relatively weak but grow with use like in Chronicle.

I'll have a character bio up after a bit. Ideally, I'd like two more males and three females so we have equal pairings, or less if people play two characters. We can also expand the group of characters as the story unfolds.

My character will start off with good intentions, a bullied geek who wants to save others from bullies. But the power corrupts him and he gradually becomes a bully himself, then goes even further and heads down a very dark path painted with blood and charred corpses (once he learns to generate lightning like a Sith).

So, anyone interested?

So I was thinking that the two girls would be orphans, but since they've aged out of foster care, they're left on their own. Their court-appointed adviser isn't helpful in the least bit, so they do what it takes to survive. What they don't know is that they're biological siblings.

Hmmm. I think the only way the foster family wouldn't know they were related would be if they game in separately to family services or whatever. Like maybe they have different moms but the same dad, but he was a drunk and took off before either girl was born or something. Maybe one mom died in birth and the other mom died in a car crash a few years later, so the girls found themselves in the same orphanage/group home and they were adopted by the same foster family or something. Maybe their father becomes a major antagonist for them or something, lol. Just some ideas.

I'm still working on the appropriate Geek Speak for it but I want a character who's got a fire and ice thing going. Basically it spawned out of an argument I got in about Avatar a couple years back about Firebenders being able to create fire out of nothing and water benders clearly being able to turn water into Ice or Steam at will and that they were obviously able to directly effect thermodynamics and excite atoms at will. Basically the argument came down to the idea that Iceman and the Human Torch have the exact same powers and the only reason they function differently is because each of them did something different the first time and it never occurred to either of them to do the opposite.

As is often true either in fiction or in real life the trade off for going half and half would likely mean not being particularly great at either. So where Human Torch would melt a door not to slag and push the door open, or neatly cut around it with super heated laser like precision, or freeze the lock mechanisms and shatter them this guy would be a lot more likely to melt the lock into place permantly or burn down the house or simply make the door harder by freezing it or freeze the lock just enough that it broke and jammed instead of shattering to dust.

Successfully "flying" either by simulated jet propulsion or by. . .whatever the fuck Iceman does (Take a moment and think about it, he doesn't move his feet so he's not "skating" on the ice bridges he's making. Clearly he's actually forming the bridge slightly behind himself so it propels him forward despite how it looks from our perspective. (Not to mention there isn't THAT MUCH moisture in the air but that's beside the point.

Regardless the point being until/unless the story advances to a point where he needs more power (in which case Fire n' Ice can scale pretty much as high as you want. Go read some of the authors who decided Iceman can stop molecular movement over a widespread area and basically doesn't because he's not a murderous prick or guys who realized Fire eats oxygen and most of Human Torch's enemies need that stuff to remain alive and concious. If he wants to put you down he doesn't even need to TOUCH you.

"Geek Speak", that's funny.

I personally wouldn't say that Iceman and Human Torch, or a better example would be someone like Firestar or Sunfire, because they are also mutants, unlike Johnny. Anyway, the powers are SPECIFIC. Specific to the element of FIRE or WATER. Which, are almost complete opposites of one another(re: Avatar). If you go back to the Fantastic Four, each member actually is representative of one of the four elements. Reed is water. So, going back to Iceman, it wouldn't make sense for him to have ANYthing to do with the element of FIRE at all. Since his power doesn't have to do with the ELEMENTS(at least more than the one, and even further....not just "water"...like a non-mutant Hydro-Man, but more specific).

If the "power" was of the "elements", it would be a little more general and less specific....like that of say Storm, or even the Avatar.

The problem is that Iceman doesn't seem to have any power over water, he has power over ICE. He's never shown any ability manipulate water, and freezing things is just about slowing the atoms enough that they become a solid (and with the exception of water they contract while doing it.

Having a power that can make fire or ice out of nothing is essentially just telling the atoms hey move really fast so you produce heat or on the other end of the equation move very little or in the case of Absolute Zero not at all.

Same way the immovable object and the unstoppable force are working on the same basic principle. It's just about inertia manipulation. There shouldn't really be anything stopping the Blob from doing the same things as the Juggernaut and vice versa. (I know one's am mutant and the other is. . .a mutant who's powers we don't know last I checked but his actual powers in the main cannon come from a mystic spell of some sort. I only know that because I remember some comic or show where someone thought they had him because they negated all powers within a certain field. He then proceeded to fucking wreck everything for miles.

Fire/Ice is only my first instinct.

I've had a few other guys I could do. I have a guy based on the ActionMan Cartoon from. . .like ten years ago actually probably little longer than that. Regardless his power is that he can basically look at a situation and do all the super complicated geometry and math to bounce shit off walls.

So he's a bitch to fight in a sufficiently chaotic environment because he can walk through a collapsing building and dodge it all because he can see it coming.
