Oh, but it's not the weekend yet!
So you'll juuuuust have to wait![]()

In that case...
Go fuck somebody
![]()

Only one? Okay, but you have to break the bad news to the other one!![]()
Today is my baby's last day at college. Ever.
I remember his first day at school like it was yesterday, and that was 13 years ago. God, I'm old....

Wait... 13 years to complete both school and college?
And you're not old until you think you're old.
So stop thinking you're old![]()
Our kids have to go to school just till they're 16, then they can leave to get a job if they want.

Most do what he's done and carry on at college till they're 18, after which they can get a (hopefully better) job, or they can apply for university, which he's done.
So, it's a milestone in his life and oursFrom now on, he's on his own.
The daft thing is that I don't actually feel any differently in myself than I did when I took him for his first day. I'm trying to get my head round the fact that I MUST be so much older but.....I don't feel it![]()
Congrats to the son, for this is a noteworthy passage in his life.
Isn't it strange, how we tend to feel the same from year to year to year (unless, say, we're trying to spring the last few hundred meters of a 5K, or lift weights beyond our range)? In many ways, I think much like I did when I finished college and my needs have not changed terribly much, either. Oh, they're more nuanced and particular, I suppose, but fundamentally the same. Good food, good company, a smile formed from love, and the hope of a fair tomorrow. I still enjoy playing Led Zeppelin at ear-endangerment levels now and again, and the risks that thrill me haven't changed much, either. My body is older, that's quite clear, but I'm not.
Oh? And were you curmudgeonly at that tender young age already as well?![]()
. It was like something out of an old newsreel..I'm baaa-aack!
Only one brief encounter with the KGB (yes, they still have it there) and being questioned and carry-on rummaged at the border when we were leaving. I think they only stopped me and J at the border because they were bored.
It was definitely a most interesting trip. Not quite sure what to make of it all just yet.
